I love my 10×14.... Im 67 yrs. Old, lady horse camper.... I can set this tent up by myself in no time st all. Its roomy, and secure as well as rain proof. The large windows allow me to check on my horse at night with out having to get up and go outside. The awning is not a problem .... I just lower one of the poles. I love my Kodiak!
You've encouraged me. I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to put a canvas tent like this up by myself and that I'd be kind of stuck with the nylon/polyester walled tents and I hadn't seen anybody say anything about canvas tents outside of heavy and you need 2 people for the bigger tents. I'm a widow with a little kid. It'll be a while before he can help and I want to be able to use it after he's grown and moved away. Thank you...
Hi Eric, that is one of the best investments for your outdoors trips you could have bought. got mine n 2008 and it is still going strong. Couple of tips if any one cares. Take the time to add a little extra strap to the D rings on the side for pole to prop the tent up. After a log time of use wet, dry, wet, dry, they fray and tear away which can a bit of a pain in higher winds. I bought the tarp from them for the tent floor to give it some extra oomph good investment as well. Mr. Buddy heater. a small one, is excellent in the tent for colder evenings and winter hunts. Caution about using the heater and the loft in high winds as clothes can go flying off and possibly cause a mishap. I changed out the little plastic rings for metal clips that are adjustable for the storage. I also was able to treat the tent to a complete revamping of the waterproof. w we had a terrible storm and the tent took a beating and flooded inside. I was able to dry it out with Mr. Buddy and used the Kiwi spray treatment recommended by the Kodiak team. 3 cans did the trick. Good as new. Enjoy and thank you for sharing the kids will love it.
Man, having a torrential rain on camping and knowing the next day, people will be complaining about their water paddle inside their tent and I'm just there chilling drinking my coffee in my Kodiak tent. My 10 x 10 has done me good and so will my Grand kids once I have them.. =)
That’s funny and so true. I just got back from a weekend hunt in the tent it didn’t rain but every time I set the tent up It just makes me happy. I definitely do not have buyers remorse!! Thanks for the comment and support!
Nice video. People complain about water pooling on the canopy. All you have to do is place the poles at an angle to shed water away from the door. A tent peg bent at a 45 degree angle to keep the pole in place. Nice review!
It says in the owners manual that this isn't for use in heavy snow conditions. Had anyone used this tent in snow? I'm looking to use this tent full-time in Seattle in a homeless tent city.
Great buy, 👍 👌 I've been looking at this tent for a few years now, will be purchasing one next year. The tent I have now will last another season of camping. Thank you for sharing, take care. 🇺🇲
I'm loving the echo with nothing in it and sense the tent is so heavy made of thicker material than other tents coupled with how big it actually is I'd argue it's more of a portable tiny home more so than a tent
Boy you sure got some strange trolls saying some interesting things. I think your video is fine. I've owned four Springbars from Salt Lake for 30 years and used them in my dad's scout troop for 15 years before that. I'm sure Kodiaks aren't much different. Some of the best tents you can buy!
Yeah a few trolls for sure. I think it’s funny they barely make sense! As far as I can tell the spring bar and the kodiak are a lot alike just minor differences. I agree with you though some of the best tents you can buy. Thanks for the comment!
Those sure are great tents! What I do to not walk on it is open the doors and step/crawl on the inside floor to do the poles. The 10x14 sure is large but you're right it is like a little cabin so when you're hanging out in there its not so bad even if you have cots. I've been using sound blankets on the floor for extra padding and it makes it pretty nice as well. Hope you get to take it out soon Eric!
That’s a good idea to open the doors to not step on it. I love the size of it for sure. I might also check out the sound blankets also. Thanks for the comment it was full of great ideas!!
Eric James Outdoors - awesome glad to help! If your ground is hard (out here it is a nightmare and I’ve actually bent the stakes - which I didn’t think was possible) is to use 12” lag bolts and an impact drill. It seems kinda silly but works AMAZINGLY well. On my last video at 3:15 you can see the inside of mine. On the floor are the black blankets and a wool blanket. It makes it pretty nice in there.
I agree totally best tent I’ve ever own to. I just got back from hunting camp went through wind gusts and a snow storm the tent held up great! Thanks for the comment!
I've had one for a couple of years and it has been great except for a couple of issues. The door zippers are not adequate. We have one failing on the door under the awning. The door is under a lot of tension due to the spring bar design and it has cause the zipper to fail right at the corner. A secondary issue is the design of the awning. Its very awkward and the center grommet must be tied down so it is lower than both poles so water can drain otherwise water will pool and bring down the tent.
Great video! I love my 10x14...I took it out on our first real (not backyard) camping trip a few weeks ago. I too had the same problem with footprints the first time I set it up.
Thank you for your efforts and time. I have been interested in this tent and you got me ready now to order. My Bow hunting camp for late fall. Thanks again.
Looks pretty sweet! I've got the Cabelas 12x12 Alaknak tent, and do *not* like the center tent pole, and all the guy lines. I does have a stove jack, and that is a plus, because I deer hunt in Northern Michigan, and it can get pretty cold in November. Thanks for the informative vid!
I’m loving the tent I just got back from a archery deer hunt and had the tent up. every time I set it up I get excited I have zero buyers remorse!! I bet that center pole can be annoying for sure. I’m using my mr. heater buddy to stay warm this up coming elk hunt I’m hoping it works out. I don’t want to put a stove in this tent because it will take up the extra room but if the heater don’t quit cut it this season I’ll probably install one. Thanks for the comment and support!!
Thanks man that’s so cool! The tent has been great for me! it’s one of those purchases your just happy with every time you pull it out! I’m going to be making another video about it soon of what I think about it a year later. Thanks for the support I really appreciate it!
I have the 10x14 and have been sleeping in it the last 2 years, set up on a friend’s property using the house for kitchen and bathroom etc. I love it and hate it!... these tents are great in summer with excellent ventilation, quality made, ykk dips heavy duty floor and the flex bow design is great in wind, just rock solid... the cons are that it’s terrible in damp, wet climates.. there is no way whatsoever to ventilate it without exposing it to rain, and because of this it’s a magnet for mould.. the total inability to ventilate it is a major problem.. If you’re only using it for short term camps it would be ok I suppose, but for an all season long term tent I’d avoid canvas... although other brands have designs where you can ventilate them but still not expose the windows / doors to rain...
Thanks for the comment! That’s good info. I do shorter camp outs my self the longest being about a week long with that said I can see where that could be a problem with long stays in wetter climates.
Oh thanks man much appreciated!! Thanks for the shirt compliment it’s my logo I’m working with to start a little clothing line when the timing is right.
Just sold my 10 X 10 Flexbow. The walls are too angular and the weight is too much for our needs. If you put a queen sized mattress in it, the walls are so steep you are bumping into the walls when you walk around the mattress. If they put the doors on the straight vertical sides it would of worked better.
Hi Erik! Great video. Looking to buy a Kodiak tent. More for hunting purposes in late winter. How's it hold up in low temps and do you recommend a water proof spray right away or wait a year or so? Merry Christmas and Happy New Years!
Thanks for the question! In the colder months I’ve used a mister buddy heater. When just using one heater it isn’t quite enough but when using two it will heat up good. Unless you’re thinking of using a stove then you will be great. I haven’t used any water proof. When the water hits the tent it beads up and either dries or falls off but I imagine water proof spray would be a great idea to the more protection the better. One piece of advice to not put it away wet at all make sure it’s completely dry before you do. I had issues with that. I put it away just a little to soon before it was throughly dried and this last season I had some mold problems I was very bummed out to say the least. I hope that helps with your decision you will love the tent once you get it! Merry Christmas and happy New Year’s to you as well!
Thanks for sharing. How does it do in the summer? There is another version with more windows for another $100. So just wondering if this one is hot in the summer without the extra windows.
Thanks for the comment! You may like the one with more windows. You’ll have a better opportunity to catch a breeze. The one I have does fine but I have found myself wishing I got the upgrade in the summer.
RE: the A-frame concept -- have the middle stake be 1" to 2" below the tent entryway roof/opening height and the two end stakes about 4" lower than the center. It worked on other tests with a front fly that I have been in. Enjoy!
I tried a few different things this last hunting season I found one pole at the door way and the other tying straight toward the ground on the other side with no pole just rope and stake worked well for me. Thanks for the comment!!
I just run it through the door that I’m not using and zip to the corner it seems to work good. When I was hunting this year I went through a snow storm it never leaked through. With that said it would be nice if they had a spot designated for extension cord or hose. Thanks for the question!!
I run a Propane Heater in mine. Run Hose through the bottom zipper on the window. Set Heater on two bricks to get the heater off the tent floor. Caution always crack open window vents front and back to allow fresh air to enter.
@@CBCapt Thank you for the reply. I was looking into this tent as well as a way to heat it. I am amazed by the diesel parking heaters. No condensation, outside the tent, and very, very economical as well as a low price....$150 ish. A couple of liters of fuel will last for days.
I have the original 10x14 Springbar tent that Kodiac copied the design from. Kodiac did ad some design improvements. But neither is as roomy and comfortable as my 5-meter canvas Bell tent, and none of the cabin-style tents are as weather and wind-resistant as a Bell tent.
@@eric_james Your welcome, the TeePee style of the Bell tents make them inherently resistant to wind and the canvas is cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter and a major plus to me was that the canvas doesn't flutter and make the noise that nylon and poly tents do. If I was solo camping I would consider a 3 meter one, and actually, a 4meter one would be plenty for my wife and me but we enjoy the 5-meter one because we can have a queen bed a cot for our bags of stuff a good size table and 2 chairs and still have plenty of room to walk around. If you are considering one, my research 2 1/2 years ago led me to the Psyclone tents, their quality is excellent.
I was in some wind one time where it was shaking the tent really good. I thought for sure it was going to blow the tent over to my surprise it held up well. The best part is you don’t get the noise from the canvas tent like you do from a regular tent.
I am very happy with it. I went through a decent storm during my hunting camp and I was very pleased how it handled it. Also I’m still getting excited about breaking it out every time I get a chance. If I ever have any trouble with it I’ll definitely be making a video on it but at this point I think it’s a slim chance of that happening. Thanks for the comment and enjoy your new tent!!
My understanding of canvas it’s made out of both cotton and polyester. In the warmer months the tent can get hot but I haven’t noticed it get humid so much. The area I live isn’t the humid though so probably why I haven’t noticed it. Thanks for the comment. Maybe some one will see your question and answer it better than I can.
That’s a good question! I think you could you’d just have to figure out a way to bolt the D loops down to the platform. Having the tent staked down is part of how it stands up and give it its stability. If you do it you should attach a picture to my Instagram I’d like to see what that looks like. Thanks for the comment!
@@eric_james I would like to see what it is going to look like also! Lol. I will figure something out! I am putting the tent in my back yard, the land slopes, I thought a platform would do the trick…this way I can also put a small fence on the platform…and make it into my tiny house! Want to rent out my house a few nights during the summer..so I thought I could stay in the tent….have no fear…I have an electric fence!
Yeah I still love it. I just got back from a week long hunt it was great. Most importantly I stayed dry from the rain storms. If a canvas tent is what your looking for I’d recommend these for sure. I am bias but I don’t think you’d regret getting one.
@@eric_james thanks for the speedy reply. Been camping many years now but camped in a canvas tent last weekend and now I'm spoiled. Think this will be the one.
No problem. Yeah once you go canvas you don’t go back 😂. There nice in the wind to you have to listen to that tent slap all night long. The canvas makes some noise but not like regular tents.
For the 8 person tent I’d say yes but if you got one of the smaller tents maybe but with the polls even that would be tricky. You’d probably be better off getting a regular tent for the dirt bike. Thanks for the comment and support!!
Holy Science. You wouldn't want this on your pig. Sure you could do it but if you're camping you'll have 15 to 40 lb of other gear The smallest Kodiak is extremely doable and I've used my KLR with the Springbar brand same size 6x8ish.. although I've since started using a backpacking tent cuz even the smallest Kodiak is like 20 Lbs.
Yeah those tents are heavy. It’s probably the only down fall actually is there’s no backcountry hunts with the kodiak canvas tents. Unless you have horses.
I haven’t had it rain yet. Before I got the tent I did a tone of research myself and a few of the guys said it held up really well in rain. Thanks for the comment!
I have the 2 person Flexbow and it does not leak at all, I've had it in very bad rain storms several times and it did fantastic, I freaking love my Kodiak tent....get one you will not regret it
Ts not easy its simple easy. Only a complete idiot would have a hard time with these tents.Had a seam start to rip . Kodiak said no problem. Sent some pictures they sent me a shipping tag in a few weeks I had a new tent shell. They took care of my problem.
Wow that’s really great service. I’ve had mine for roughly 6 months now and still as excited about it as day one when I opened it out of the box! Kodiak is a great company from my prospective! Thanks for the support and comment!
