Hi! I made this to show a cool (revolutionary?!) piece of gear. I TOTALLY understand that at €2850,- it's far out of the price range for many guitarists. I played a Roland Cube & a Squier for 10 years and it never stopped me. I played gigs with an old 20 watt solid state modeling amp... I'm not trying to tell you you need expensive stuff to rock 🤘
@chefsalty

but it does make it a bit easier to speak your tone with tools like this. i myself have been playing with my blues jr for 15 years and at the time it was a deal used 200$. with this function on this hook amp, i can effectively take out the monitor part and have it direct to the board and literally no pedals but the midi controller. = win in my opinion.

That’s a super cool way to do presets, basically just little motors that act like someone instantly changing all the dials. But I do worry that it adds a whole new element of possible failure and repair to the amp. Totally worth it for the cool factor.

I was recently in Holland and I got to meet Paul! He was a SUPER cool and nice guy! Here's the story: I was in a nightclub, and I spotted Paul in the corner surrounded by a harem of women. I noticed him because he kept spilling his drink everywhere and waving a pistol around. I approached and introduced myself, and let him know what a huge fan I am of his guitar videos. Paul said, "shut up guitar bitch" and threw his drink in my face. But when I walked away, he stopped me and called me back. "Keep telling the girls about The Guitar Legend Paul Davids while I go grab some cash real quick." I talked to Paul's friends and they were super nice too. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Paul break a beer bottle over the bartender's head and start looting the cash drawer. When he came back, he handed me a stack of money! Awesome guy, huge fan.

This however... The sounds you got recorded with it do attract me and I'm pretty confident it will handle the more high-gain stuff I'm usually doing. Maybe time to give him a call again! ;-)

for everyone that is saying this an expensive amp let's break it down: 10-14 pedals at avg 90$= $1260 2 amps at avg cost/used = $500 plugs and wires and cases and boards = $300 = 2k -ish (these are just for maybe your gigs and shows -1 set up at your house and road) doesn't even include what you have at your studio with the mixer board, mics, etc. we can go on and on. This is geared for the tube model enthusiast/minimalist and I'm all for it. playing a blues junior myself and 2 pedals this would effectively make my life easier. can you just imagine this small footprint of an amp with 1 plug to go to your midi controller and maybe a wireless. Very interesting amp, great demo, and as always, great playing. Love the tones and the way it operates. In regards to venues, yes, they generally don't want to deal with the sort of loud amps that were coming up till the 90s. I live in the States, a very litigious country, so there may be legal reasons for this. But I also think it's because times just sort of change. A lot of gigging musicians prefer equipment that's easier to move gig to gig and set up and break down fast. I've been playing guitar almost forty years in the L.A. area, but took a number of years off from the music scene, which I am just now getting back into. I noticed when I was Ubering a lot of musicians to gigs, especially guitar players, that their rigs were shrinking. In those several years of driving I never encountered one stack, just combos or floor systems like Helix, AxFx, Boss systems and small power amps, and maybe a small speaker, or they were likely going direct without a full amp. My rig now is just a Boss GT one and a Roland Cube which I will mic. It's loud enough for my needs. I play instrumental prog.

Sounds fantastic! Thanks for the demo! Feature wise, though. I feel like this and other tube amps in the last year or so (e.g. the Revv D20/G20, Peavey Invective, etc) are finally (almost) catching up to the feature set H&K's grandmeister had 6 years ago.

Came here for that. That was late 80s, early 90s. But it's great that this is used again. There is nothing like some pots to quickly dial in a sound. And nothing like presets to recall it later. The combination is perfect

2,900 for this is acrually kind of a steal. Seeing as those old and unreliable amps by themselves cost more than that combined. The ac15c1x is almost half that at $1,299 now. All in one and mechanical and attenuators and fx loop and direct out. Non of those Amos have that

Servo motors and standard control circuitry. The servo motor measures the current position, the control circuit compares the measurement value to the preset value, and tells the servo motor to turn in one direction until the measurement matches the preset value. The amp is basically a robot that you can program to swich to the sound you want. If the motors were positioned in a humanoid robot, each preset sound would be a different pose.

I also thought about a single channel tube amp with a bank of settings, allowing to have every sound you want with the andvantages of a single channel amplifier. Happy to see that somebody had the grips to translate this idea in reality.

Great addition to the HOOK offering, still love my Captain 34 v1. Nice review, just one comment as a build: you say ‘ first tube-amp with presets’ but there have been several amps out there who have preset/MIDI as well as Loadbox/DI functionality such as the Hughes & Kettner Meister series or Mesa Boogie Triple Crown. Thanks for the review.
