Have a question. So using an external amp for front, center and right channels from my receiver in a home theatre, does that mean that the surround and atmos speakers get more power now from the receiver?
@bryanmontengro9296

Yes, the amp powers up the speakers you plug into it. And the receiver powers up the rest.

Just got my A5 today but not using it until my Cinema 40 is broken in first. Will report back in a week or so after the 40 doing some heavy lifting first (aka broken in) First impression is very high. Seems high quality throughout, especially the users manual is printed out and spiral bound! Nice touch Emotiva!

Thank you very much for watching Tony!! Yeah it really sucks that these aren't readily available in Australia. Maybe sometime in the future!! No worries about the monoblock, we're hoping we can tear it apart and figure out what's wrong with it... otherwise, still a pretty good run for an almost 30 year old amp ;)

Nice review 👍🏽 but, I would say the term "high voltage" is somewhat misleading here. Generally a doubling of wattage from 8ohm to 4ohm is an indication of what most consider a high voltage amplifier. Not a hater, I own 2 Emotiva amps and they are solid performers. Just wish they'd engineer them so they could be bridged too.
@TwoGuyzTech
@TwoGuyzTech 3 года назад
Thanks for watching! We appreciate your feedback. I don't believe that I said anything about "high voltage" in this video, but I did mention that Emotiva includes what is in their words a "high-current, low noise" toroidal transformer :)
@ben23a31
@ben23a31 3 года назад
@@TwoGuyzTech my bad, I meant "high current". However, most power amplifiers that highlight "high current" usually have specs that double the wattage from 8 ohms to 4 ohms. It's a big deal when you have lower sensitivity 4ohm speakers, say 84db. I suspect that's why Emotiva amps aren't able to be bridged due to 4 ohm speaker loads that will affect their performance. But if you're not in that situation Emotiva amps are very good.
@TwoGuyzTech
@TwoGuyzTech 3 года назад
@@ben23a31 Thanks again for the comment :) Many good two channel amps and monoblocks will double their power going from an 8 to a 4 ohm load, but this is a much more difficult task for a multi-channel amp. Can you give an example of a multi-channel amp that will do this? If there are, I'm sure they are very expensive
@ben23a31
@ben23a31 3 года назад
@@TwoGuyzTech agreed, I have 2 Meridian G55's Class A amps. They're each 5 Channel amps with 100 watts x5 but are very flexible and can be bridged in multiple ways. When bridged they are 300 watts x2 @ 8ohms and 100 watts with the remaining channel into 8ohms. That's how I use them. The remaining 2 channels are used to bi-amp the center channel speaker.

You are my wealth of information and inspiration 🤘👏👌 I have a question, I have the Onkyo Rz820 AVR and I want to upgrade to separates but don't want pay a bunch as my AVR was bought for $699 when the regular price was $1399. I've heard from you as well as others that a sperate system will bring out much detail in each channel of my home theater instead of just hearing a bunch of amplifed sound. Since most of my budget went to my Focal speaker upgrade, which I also got a spectacular deal 😉 Thanks for your help as always!!
@TwoGuyzTech
@TwoGuyzTech 3 года назад
Thanks as always K Man - we really appreciate the comment! :) This is going to depend on a lot of different factors, like the pre-amp voltage coming from the pre-out ports on your receiver, the sensitivity and impedance of your speakers, and overall how good or bad the amps built into your Onkyo might be. Usually, adding separate amps to a receiver pretty much always results in an improvement, but there's really no way to know how much there'll be until you try it out for yourself. Hope this helps and thanks again!! :)

Hey there Guyz, I finally narrowed down my amp choice, the Emotiva basx. But I have an important question, with my current speaker arrangement of 5.2.1 and my AVR is rated at 130w x 2 channels driven which emotiva to get? The 5 Channel and let my AVR handle the ceiling Atmos or side surrounds or get the 7 channel and totally rest my AVR for other duties? This will make the difference of about 5 watts per channel between the two Emotiva's.
@TwoGuyzTech
@TwoGuyzTech 3 года назад
Hey again K Man, great to hear! This is a tough one. Getting the A5 just to drive your floor-level speakers and allowing the receiver to do the rest might be the best option. We think it's a great idea to utilize the power in your receiver to run the Atmos channels. Hope this helps :)

I have the BasX A5 on the way but I have also purchased the XPA-5 GEN3 both from Emotiva. I’m trying to decide is all the power from the XPA-5 needed for a Klipsch 5.2.4 setup? (RP8000fx2, RC64iii, RP600Mx2) amp and x4 RP500SA Dolby atmos ran on Denon x4700h
@TwoGuyzTech
@TwoGuyzTech 3 года назад
Thanks for watching! As good as the BasX A5 is, the XPA-5 Gen3 is obviously on another level. You're getting a lot more power and headroom which should help during highly dynamic parts of movies - especially if you run your speakers full range, for example with two channel listening, you'll hear a difference. The XPA-5 Gen3 also gives you more of an upgrade path if you want to run less efficient speakers (the Klipsch are very sensitive, so they don't need as much power). Since you already have both, if I were you, I'd listen to both and make your decision based on sound quality & how much you really want to spend. Hope this helps! :)
@dontae0788
@dontae0788 3 года назад
@@TwoGuyzTech thank you so much for the feedback. The BasX A5 would obviously be better for the pockets and if I could get decent range with it I’d be happy. But I would hate to listen and feel like I need more because I didn’t maximize the power. I will try a listening test. Thank you. Because of the sensitivity of the speakers, I was hoping the cheaper option would still be plenty enough power

Actually we fixed one of the amps, it was making a loud buzzing noise through the speakers, after some some trouble shooting we found a cold soldier joint so we reflowed the soldier and its good now. Unfortunately another one just stopped working and we cant find the problem. These sell on eBay for about $150 to $200 each so not sure if it would be worth it to get a pro involved. @@TwoGuyzTech In my cheapskate opinion getting the Marantz mono block amps you already own repaired by a pro would be well worth the cost. I am planning on buying the upcoming high-end Onkyo RZ50 AVR. Do you think the Emotiva BasX A-5 will sound better than the Onkyo RZ50 internal amplifier?
@TwoGuyzTech
@TwoGuyzTech 3 года назад
Thanks for watching! It's hard to estimate the quality of an unreleased receiver so we'll have to go by other receivers in its price range (about $1,100). We've actually seen quite a few people running receivers around that price who report that the BasX amps make a noticeable improvement. It's also worth mentioning that the sound quality of the BasX (or any separate amp for that matter) depends on the quality and voltage output level of the preamp in your AVR - some Marantz receivers (for example) suffer from low preamp voltage output, meaning the signal could start clipping long before the amplifier reaches its max potential. In the end you'd have to try both amps with your speakers and see which sounds better to make a proper choice. Hope this helps!

Outlaw 5000 offers better value hands down. Heatsinks and 4 transistors for each channel. 50lb beast! Much larger transformer. Plus xlr connections. Emotiva is ok. Outlaw outperforms it.
@TwoGuyzTech
@TwoGuyzTech 3 года назад
Thanks for watching! We haven't had the opportunity to review the Outlaw, so we can't come to any of our own conclusions about the differences between the two - but being that it's $170 more, that could explain the differences that you're talking about. :)
@ryanschipp8513
@ryanschipp8513 3 года назад
@@TwoGuyzTech You should give it a shot. In the world of home theater and Hi-Fi that price difference is minimal considering the quality difference and component difference. Definitely more Headroom, much larger Transformer, individual heat sinks per Channel, 4 transistors per Channel, no cooling fans, XLR connections. Lastly, audioholics put it on the bench and it is rated conservatively. Emotiva won't even list a full bandwidth rating at 4 Ohms. Based on all of these differences it's well worth paying more for the outlaw. It's safe to say that those differences are going to make the outlaw outperform the emotiva.
@TwoGuyzTech
@TwoGuyzTech 3 года назад
@@ryanschipp8513 Yeah we'd absolutely love to take a look at the Outlaw amp if we could - unfortunately they've failed to return any of our emails so they don't wish to let us see how it performs in our own setup LOL! Like we said, we can't draw any fair comparisons without having both amps in hand and testing them side-by-side. As much as I respect other reviewers, I have a hard time comparing any two products without seeing and hearing how they perform myself - if I did sway people one way or the other, I'd be doing our audience a disservice. Thanks again for the comment and we hope to check out some more amplifiers from a variety of different manufacturers in the future! But for now, we're still very happy with the A5's performance at its price point & many customers feel the same. :)

Having extra power reserves for super low frequency effects also helps to make sure that those low notes aren't taking power away from your tweeter/midrange driver(s) (depending on the speaker), which would result in a muddy sound. Having more power available and not using it is MUCH better than not having enough power and struggling to fill your room with adequate SPL. Amplifier clipping (pushing your amplifier so hard that it begins to clip, usually due to not having enough power) will destroy a speaker long before running a pair of speakers with loads of good, clean power will. If you run your speakers at MUCH louder than reasonable levels with a good amplifier, you could overdrive them, but you'll probably want to turn them down before your eardrums burst!! Hope this helps :)

Hey, I’m back again…i have a question…so what if an AV Receiver that has a pre out that says front with red and a white…i assume its the left and right towers right? But how would i connect both left and right tower to it?..if its not front L or front R?

No sub out or in?
@TwoGuyzTech
@TwoGuyzTech 3 года назад
Nope, no 5 channel amps have subwoofer ins or outs that we know of - that's usually handled by your receiver or AVR :) Thanks for watching!

great video ......... still confused to buy about A5 or A4 for my atmos 4 channel
@TwoGuyzTech
@TwoGuyzTech 3 года назад
Thanks for watching! Either of them would work. We received the A5 for reviewing both a 5-channel setup and Dolby ATMOS height channels, but if you only need to power 4 speakers you can get the A4 if it's in stock (the A5 is currently available but the A4 is not).

No. The best BUDGET amp is the Aiyima A07. Amir at Audio Science Review measured it with spectacular results, flat response, inaudible noise and distortion and it costs $70 for 300 wpc (needs a stronger power supply). Does it actually sound better? I doubt it but I have it and it is awesome fed by my Sanskrit 2 and Asgard 3.

maybe you guys can help me out with something. how much better will my Klipsch 280F Tower speakers and my 450C center channel sound if I get the emotiva bass x A3 to power my front stage Right now all I got is my receiver Onkyo RZ 820

Klipsch speakers are very efficient and easy to drive from just an AVR alone. Unless you're hearing distortion at the volumes you listen at, an external amp is not gonna do anything.

I have the Klipsvh RB81 MKII running on a Onkyo RZ800 AVR. Hooking up the Emotiva BasX-A100 to power the Fronts was a game changer. Huge difference regarding sound quality, crispness and much more. I highly recommend trying. Thinking about buying the a-5 to also power the RC62 Center and the RB10 Rears.

This was definitely a bummer. I chose the A4, though, just to power my atmos. I picked up the monolith 7 for the bed layer.
