A12x25s are some of the best fans on the market especially for how long Noctua claims they will last. I think they claimed 150,000 or 17 years. And heck the air amplifier could be used in a case if one so desired.

I wish someone would make a 20" silent box fan. We don't see effort to build high quality utilitarian fans for the home, like we do with cpu fans..

Muji fans are marketed through their supposed quietness.Take a look at those. they also feature a curious impeller design.

It is ridiculously expensive for what it is. Could almost buy a small air con unit for the price of this. I imagine this would be a 'must have' for hardcore Noctua 'fans' but there's many cheaper alternatives that will be more than suitable for most people.

I think you've knocked it on the head. Thanks for the heads up on the Arctic desk fan though! It was really useful to have a lower cost alternative to discuss too.

I dunno, Jack. I think you've got the right of it: it's a novelty item, most likely to appeal to Noctua enthusiasts in particular, _and_ it's hella expensive. $$$ Before I go further I'll say that, while I have considerable appreciation and respect for Noctua's design and engineering in PC air cooling, what keeps me from buying more than the single U9S that I currently own and use (the chromax black edition), is their *pricing:* their prices are just too damned high. There are more players in the air cooling game these days, some of whom (Thermalright) are bringing cooling solutions to market that are arguably as good as Noctua's, and they're pricing their products MUCH lower. I feel like Noctua's gotten a bit stale on the CPU cooling front. This is evident (to me anyway) by some of the partnerships they've recently formed with other manufacturers within the realm of PC components (ASUS, Fractal Design, Seasonic, etc) -- presumably to establish a foothold in some new segment of the market. It's as if they're throwing different ideas at consumers (PSU and GPU cooling, PC cases, and now a desk fan) in the hope that _something_ will stick. Having said all that (sorry, I do tend to carry on, I know 🙄), there are *loads* of cheaper and (I dare say) more efficient conventional desk fan models on the market. (I own a pair that are of very good quality and in great shape too, so I don't need to buy another, but I know they're a dime a dozen on Amazon if I needed one.) So it leads back to the NV-FS1 being an enthusiast purchase; a niche item. Not something I think I'd be interested in (even if I _could_ afford to buy it 😋). EDIT: Typo Management

Certainly seems to be the consensus amongst a lot of people right now. It'll be interesting whether something like the next gen NH-D15 changes the tides but from what I recall I'm sure the price was pretty high for that too. Fingers crossed they remain competitive and don't become too much of a commodity with a difficult price point for entry but only time will tell. Appreciate the thoughts though so thanks for sounding off!

I've thought about pc case fans being repurposed as desk fans, because fans from companies like phateks, noctua, be quiet! etc, make fans that push SO much air for their size, and still being whisper quiet! then, a couple months later noctua came out with this. I'm glad they did, because i was wondering how to connect a 4-pin PWM fan header to a wall outlet or a usb port or something. now, i can just buy their adapters, to the dismay of my wallet of course. i would love if it was easier to just be able to connect a fan externally to a usb port, especially cause these usb fans don't push enough air. It's quite annoying, i hope there is a company that comes out with a fan-header-to-usb adapter or something like that. edit: never mind, they exist! what a surprise! should've done my research to be honest.

Thanks for the review! Could you please tell me the noise level difference between the two, the Noctua compared to the Arctic Summair Plus? Cheers.

No problem, thanks for watching! Haven't tested the Summair Plus with my decibel reader but when set at roughly 75% it's definitely louder compared to the NV-FS1 at full speed.

@@PCJack Thanks, much appreciated. I would pay a good amount extra for the low noise level in a fan this size for the bedroom, but I think the Noctua is too expensive. I will stick to my Summair, which I think has a very nice low noise level hand in hand with the fan capabilities (it’s good enough). If the summer heat becomes too unbearable the Noctua may be necessary.

@@saltedpeanut5571 No problem! Yeah think that makes sense. I've been using the Summair Plus in my living room which is conveniently wireless and it does the job pretty well!
