Fallout 4 VR is AMAZING with mods, the vanilla game might be lacking in a lot of departments but the right mods can turn this incredible game into one of the best VR games out there... but the big question is which mod list should you use? It's hard to definitively say which list is THE BEST Fallout 4 VR mod list but the two which people speak about the most tend to be the Mad God's Overhaul (which I tried out in this video here: • FALLOUT VR in 2024! Is... ) and the Gingas Fallout VR Essentials Overhaul, which I'm testing today. This Fallout VR modlist focuses more on immersion, VR systems and survival mechanics, turning Fallout 4 into a full blown, hardcore, survival experience with deadlier enemies, hunger/thirst meters and physical interactions for using your Pip Boy or selecting weapons. The Fallout VR Essentials Mod List definitely stays true to the original games aesthetic and doesn't worry too much about overhauling the visual presentation of Fallout 4 VR which leaves it feeling a little dated compared to elements of the Mad God's Overhaul...
Ultimately if you want a hardcore survival experience that still looks and feels like Fallout 4 you should grab the Gingas Fallout VR Essentials mod list. However if you want a better looking, more modern feeling Fallout 4 VR then the Mad God's mod list should keep you happy (after you uninstall all the weird Call of Duty stuff).

Btw there’s an auto save script option I setup that makes full saves since auto saving in Bethesda games are pretty wonky. It also comes with the OpenAI NPC mod so you can talk to every NPC and have realistic conservations

I LOVE your modpack and super appreciate the crazy amount of work that must've went in to it. The only thing I ever change is adding ammo crafting since ammo scarcity the only survival element I don't like. Otherwise I just run the pack as is cause it's so good!

@@79ninzombie Manually moved into the Data folder of Fallout4VR. Install the flat version, then go to its Data folder and select everything that says DLC. Copy and paste into the Fallout4VR Data folder and you're golden. I just did this. And got all the DLC for $10 total on Steam sale happening for the next few days

I run this mod list. She did a great job making the core game better. You're forced to push, combat is constantly around the corner with the stalker system, and new NPCs/dialogs/mechanics again make it a whole new experience.

This mod list has the problem of being focused on Hardcore survival. There needs to an essentials VR list. Just all the things to make it the VR release it should've been.

I’m currently doing this! I loved gingas modlist but I agree it’s too much survival for vr! I’ve added all the essentials plus a few added on (not replaced) enemies!

If you want full vannilla there is a modding guide on the fo4vr subreddit. You need only 5 mods that fix performance, fix VATS, and add a IK vr body + holsters.

Well that's weird. I was literally just thinking about 15 minutes ago that I wanted to finally try out Fallout 4 VR, but the first things I read about it in reviews was that you need a bunch of mods to make it playable, so I just gave up and decided I didn't need to play it after all. This video should be a big help, so thanks!

The base game is still quite playable as is - compared to many Quest standalone games (but obviously is PCVR). To get a good experience with most Wabbajack mods you need a beefy computer with a good GPU preferably a 12GB version so RTX 3080 is the starting level. I manage quite well with an 8GB 3070 by uninstalling 4K texture packs and replacing with 2K ones. It really is worth doing, but obviously only if you're prepared to do a bit of tinkering.

I played Gingas last year, it is very well optimized and runs great on my low end rig. The hardcore stuff is easy to remove from what i remember.

This is a great mod list. Also you probably know this by now but you can set up the PipBoy so it comes up as the screen overlay. I have it set up with pulling the left trigger. Long pull for flashlight. Menu screen navigation controls for pipboy vs trading menus is different, so that took some time to get used to. Running very smooth on a 2060 with occasional crashes but I can live with that. Also I turned on fast travel after a bit. That was really tough.

I absolutely LOVE Gingas' modlist! I have played the shit out of it for the past year or so. It makes Fallout 4 VR pretty much spot on for what I want in my Fallout. I am glad you gave it a try and I am also really excited to see that other people may be getting back into this great game and giving Gingas the praise she deserves for such an amazing modlist! Also, thanks to all the people who worked on the new Fallout TV series. As a very long time Fallout fan, I was shocked by how well they did with it!

@@TheMoonKingdom My experience with Skyrim VR tells me my PC can only handle so much in the way of graphics. It looked like the graphics here were good enough. Sadly, I expect the graphics to be better than what you get from a true VR title made today. I'm mainly going for the Fallout feel which you get from Ginga's mod.

If memory serves me right you need to buy the flat version as well so that you can download all the DLC which is not offered with the VR version. You then need to copy that to your Fallout VR installation. It is also necessary to join Nexus which you can do on a monthly basis so it's only around £5.99 one off payment. Otherwise you need to manually click on each mod to download them, which will mean hours and hours of boredom. It sounds involved, but is well worth it as it's a great experience. Check if Ginga's mod leaves your original installation untouched - the best Wabbajack modlists do this - which means you can have lot's of modlist's installed at the same time and swap between them to find the one that suits you best. I have a feeling Ginga's alters the base installation so that you cannot try another modlist without uninstalling the base game and starting from scratch - but I may be wrong about that.

When Fallout 4 and Skyrim came to VR I immediately bought it lol Skyrim is my fav but Fallout is just a vibe lol I love being in that world. I wish I can add AI NPCs but I haven't seen any mods for Fallout yet. But after the show I'm sure we about to see a flood of mods lol

I've read that using a VR gun stock is great in FalloutVR. You don't have the awkward reloading; detaching one hand. I'm interested in the small, light gunstocks that can function as a pistol or long gun.

Nexus collections aren't great and fallout 4 vr is very finicky, it takes extensive guides (or wabbajack) because so many things must be tweaked that can't be done with nexus collections

@@CoCo.-_- I've never tried it for either of those games but from the modding I've done myself on them its more about getting the right mods instead of configuring everything properly. Its also possible vortex had an update to allow collection authors to ship custom changes and that is why it works for them but thats just a guess. FO4VR pretty much requires the script extender which can't be shipped on nexus collections(though not a hassle to install manually in the case a collection needed it) but from the VR lists I have tried there are quite a few of those kinds of changes. To be honest a collection that gives a playable experience for FO4VR could be put together but it wouldn't be nearly as stable as pretty much the same list on wabbajack but tweaked by someone who understands more. I manually installed a "list" for vr that just gave some mod recommendations and it didn't turn out nearly as stable as any of the wabbajack lists I've tried, but I guess experiences may differ.

@@Plaguings yeah vortex does the custom changes that the author sets up, same with script extenders as I have done my own modding myself and also tried a new Vegas collection with 500+ mods, it's borderline plug and play with a couple things you need to do on your end, but that could just be the case for none vr stuff as vr is still seen as niche even in the modding community even tho the ones that do are very passionate about it.

Thank you for the great video! Agree about how making FO4 more like COD is not great but, in truth, there would be lush greens/trees and brush/grass everywhere especially after 200 years even accounting for the rads. Those dead trees would long ago have fallen over and degraded. Also they look prettier so I prefer a lush wasteland overrun by runaway vegetation

That's true, but the Fallout series didn't make it barren for graphical reasons, they did it for aesthetic reasons. It's like if a star wars mod removed all the sounds in space because there's really not sound in space...yeah, it's more accurate, but you'd lose that signature sound of a tie fighter, so it wouldn't feel right. ...but it's a good option if that part of the fiction always bothered you about fallout.

ur last video got me to get the game, im loving it so far vanilla but ya id like to be able to walk instead of just teleport and no arms is kind of lame but other than that its so much fun on sale now for 14.99 on steam so def worth it.

You don't need to use teleport. Go into the Settings>VR and change Direct Movement to On. That allows you to walk like a normal video game using the control sticks instead of the awful default Teleportation all VR games implement.

I've been trying F4FEVR, which also got a little update recently. It's confusing, because it's full of stuff which isn't activated, has multiple profiles, of which only one works, but at least I get 7 minutes of game before it crashes, or less if there's an explosion. Yay. I'll try this other one when I feel like fighting Wabbajack again.

Is there a way to view Gingas modlist without installing it and even Wabbajack? I prefer to pick and chose mods myself but would just like to look over this modlist to see which mods (like the weather / lighting mod) are being used.

I have been playing the Gingas VR modlist for a while, removed the hardcore survival crap and a bunch of the add on weapons as well. Never got the Holster system to work properly, you would put weapons in and then be unable to get them out and they would disappear totally from your inventory, so binned that as well, also only had arms display for FRIK as the legs would just flop around getting in the way. It is a great pity that the engine changes they did means it will never be able to do the Body and Holstering as good as you can mod it in Skyrim VR which has great body and holstering mechanics.

Just got back into this. If ur using quest 2 there might be a possibly of it being super wonky and grabbing chems/ taking chems/ not be able to put weapons away. I forgot exactly what mod it was but disable the holsters mod and it’s wayyy better

The recording is taken straight from desktop view, meaning it doesn't have the same "downscaled" look as 'in-headset' does.

How does the streaming to the headset look? And not just airlink but with cable as well. I tried modded skyrim VR and it was unplayable because looking into a lush forest would turn my whole screen blurry like the bitrate on a YT video messing up despite the game running great.

@@alanbarker2279 Nope, bitrate issue is actually extremely common due to the way the Quest streams images to the headset. Similarly to a youtube video, a bunch of effects on screen will make it look grainy and this is super jarring in games like No Mans Sky or Skyrim(like I said). I was just wondering how it would be with Skyrim VR since it has less foliage than Skyrim but still a lot of details.

@@wingsoficarus1139 If you use a dedicated WIFI 6 router connected to your computer with a Cat 6 ethernet cable and use Virtual Desktop you should not have bitrate problems. Even Airlink and Steam Link both work well. Believe me, if you are having the problems you say, then something is not right. I suggest you look for some tutorials because this a not a suitable place for an in depth discussion.

@@alanbarker2279 Im plugged in with a wire-- the official one. Its still considered streaming because its not direct video like a dp for a PC-only headset. Trust me, what I was talking about was a super common topic back when the Quest 2 first came out because people were transitioning from their Vive or Rift S to a Quest and were noticing bitrate issues. Has nothing to do with my end but rather the way the headset/port functions. You may not notice it in most games(because most games deal with particles well) but play Skyrim with Skyrim Flora Overhaul or something and you'll see what I mean. Doesn't matter if you're on a 4090 or a 1080 because its a limitation with USB-C and not the GPU.

@@wingsoficarus1139 I also have the official Oculus Link cable and about 3 other 3rd party cables but the best experience for me is using Virtual Desktop over WIFI. I've got 300+ plus hours in Skyrim FUS and about 70 hours in Fallout 4 - I just have not experienced the visual artefacts and pixellation you are referring to. I agree about the limitations of the way Oculus handles data transfer over USB-C but I gave up using that a long time ago.

Is one of the mods an auto aiming mod? I remember when I played hitting anything was a nightmare, but so many of his shots just land, cant tell if he is just really good at aiming or a mod is helping.

does any mod add DLSS support ? The performance is pretty terrible on PC, unless you have a very high end CPU/GPU and DLSS would definitely help.

I believe most of these mods are going to break soon. On April 25th they are releasing a free next gen upgrade for Fallout 4, it also caused the release of Fallout: London to be pushed back. I'm pretty sure this will also affect most large FO4VR mods

Fallout 4 and Fallout 4 VR are two separate games, and the update is only for Fallout 4, not the VR version. The VR version hasn't been updated in years and most mods are for the main Fallout 4 game. The VR Mods won't have any issue working, because they are made for the VR version of the game, not the flat/pancake version of Fallout 4. So you don't have to worry about it.

Pretty much what I'm worried about as well, seeing the modlist need the base game DLCs as well as the VR version. I also hope Fallout London will be able to run on VR, but I don't hold my breath.

i have done everything and it works perfectly, thank you for that , but unfortunatly i cant record it with OBS...? I use OBS like every day BUT (Fallout VR is the only Game I GOT A BLACK SCREEN ?! Ok how does this help anyone that does not want to fully remod all our other games? Webberjack wont work with Vortex and for me to load MO I would have to replace the hundereds of mods I already have for Skyrim SE and Skyrim VR and Fallout 4 and Fallout New Vegas. Is there a way to get the list of the mods and download them from Nexus with Vortex??

Is there a basic modlist that gives you the Full body IK and keeps the experience as true to vanilla fallout 4 as posible? Ive tried loading just the IK in the past and very few mods and never had luck. Fallout TV series was amazing!

is anyone else getting the following error after loading the mod from mod organiser (steanvr failed to initialize for unknown reasons.(error: Not starting vrserver for background app (121) 121). this happens when trying to load a new game or continue the game as stated after leaving the vault without frick enabled. It shows the loading screen and i can rotate the item but then it crashes to steam vr or desktop. Im using quest 3 via virtual desktop.

I love fallout vr i got it to work pretty well and the only thing i have problems with is the fog i had to delete everything because i broke something messing with stuff and i had a fog remover on it but i forgot which one lol but i got the game to run almost as smooth so it should be even be better after i get the fog removed it made the game run a bit smoother so i got to figure that out im new to pc moding but im sure I'll figure it out and I didn't like the pitboy screen doing that but in the settings i could just change it to a pop up one

I wasnt able to get it to run. Does anyone know a tutorial which is complete and works? I tried alot, but I didnt find any working tutorial. The problem is, that always my steam starts the steam vr mode first and always the steam vr crashes if I want to start the mods launcher. I was able to install the modlist because I followed some other guides. But they still wont work.

Isn't the massive update for Fallout 4 about to come out? Sounds like they have put a lot into it for PSVR XBOX and PC users. I am waiting for that to replay the VR version.

If I download the mad god mod pack is it safe to disable all the call of duty stuff? I know with gingasvr mod pack you can’t disable many of the mods due to priority sorting issues

Yes! I have. Kept only a few that are more lore friendly. Deselect the modern armour for raiders and gunners. Others if you wish. Also deselect all the (game changes) that change all the animals to humans. From there I added my favourite mods and boom. Lore friendly next gen F4 VR.

I just downloaded it and i'm fine with modern weapons or the map more green as it at least gives a freshness to the game and make me willing to play it again, but replacing the wasteland creatures with humans is too much. It's fine if you don't want to, ik not everyone would have the time for it.

@@Lalosalamnc In Mod Organizer on the left under (Gameplay) deselect: -Bloodbug and Stingwing Replacer -Ghoul Raiders -Mirelurk Replacer -Radscorpion and Molerat Replacer -Radroach and Bloatfly Replacer -Super Mutant Replacer I also deselect -SKK Combat Stalkers (nexus edition)- That is my preference, that mod adds random encounters that are constantly after you. As if there is a price on your head at all times. Can be a bit much.

Also FRIK is not selected in mod list as default. Wait till after you exit Vault, save then select/apply it.

I guess the reason to replace the creatures to people is that fallut 4 vr is very moddable. So if you want to create an entirely different game, you can. So you can basically mod it until it becomes another game you wished you played in VR...or something :)

Unfortunately, getting all those 4k textures and making the game "prettier" are what's tanking your performance i use this mod pack and its the best hands down imo especially for performance it also gets much easier the longer you play

the problem i have with either of these mod packs is the lack of left handed support. idle hands flips your hand over instead of just swapping hands with guns, and mad god is kind of the same. The leftie support split mod is still in beta, and has been in beta for a bit as well. so for me, these are kind of unplayable, and the complicated labeling bethesda did with FO4VR for key binds makes it complicated, and even the controller bindings only help so much. Its a shame, but till fallout 4 VR gets more mods into it to fix these issues, it collects dust in my steam library. I hope with the show that came out, there will be some new life in the modding scene for it

I have to have mods that change the bugs have an extreme fear of all that stuff, when I play flatscreen it isn't that bad but in vr I coudln't get out of the vault
