Many companies have a signature kit. A certain model or type that they aim to do particularly well, Revell its the Bf109, Tamiya A6M Zero and P15 Mustang, Zvezda Su27 , With Airfix it quite unsurprisingly the Spitfire. Great unboxing and discussion The KitKat is a nice touch.
@@frost7724 well this recommends humbrol, but if they aren’t available where you are there are conversion charts online that will give you similar colours from other companies on a “like for like” kind of basis
Cannot wait to see your take on this kit Model Minutes. For the paint scheme I'd recommended the post-war/ early cold war version. I feel like the Spitfire's Cold War history is overshadowed by its illustrious World War Two service. Plus the look of the natural metal finish of RAF aircraft from the 1950s to early 1970s is quite striking. Good luck with the build buddy :)
Great review..thank you... this is on my list for the spring... I would love to see this particular model in its silver livery.. keep up the great work kind regards Dave 😁👍👍👍👍👍
Another great video glad this one was with all tech turned on. Its really a good thing that Airfix sends you free kits to review, they recognize you as a worthy reviewer; this only adds credence to your channel. I've enjoyed this series of episodes, it is a good looking model.
The later versions remove the brilliance that was the Spitfire. They turned much slower and became more of a strike fighter and some of them even were modified to drop bombs. The greatest Spitfire was the 8 gunned, fierce, fast turning fighting machine that helped defeat the Germans in the Battle Of Britain.
@@adriancabrera3014 By "shark mouth" are you referring to the air intake carburettor on the mark eight or the nose art design that certainly is cool but is a feature of many different planes?
Good review,,,,, but having built this kit a couple of times for commission I can safely say it's definitely not the best Airfix ever! In fact it's one badly molded, ill fitting steaming pile! If you want the best Airfix kit,, look no further than the new tooled 1:48 p-40b,, that's a peach of a kit! Airfix would be better off spending a bit more time and effort into making good, enjoyable kits instead of adding a 50p chocolate bar to a pile of junk just to sweeten the deal. That's just my view though,,, hope you have more fun building it than I did 👍
Thanks for your comment, but I made this video as soon as this kit came out - noone knew at the time that it had these issues. If you watch my build video on this kit you'll see that I discover the same problems you had. Speaking of the P40 in 1/48, I added that to the stash recently and am looking forward to doing that one!
@@ModelMinutes Yup! Just seen it... All things considered (kit issues etc) I think you did a great job with it. One new subscriber added to your list! Keep up the good work,, it's a great little channel
@@ModelMinutes Excellent!! I shall look forward to that... I've dinged the bell and everything so should get notified when you upload it. Don't tell me what it is though,, I like surprises! Lol I'd really love to see you do the p-40 one day aswell,,, you're honestly in for a treat with that one
That might be because you only have the "Monty's humber" video to represent airfix. If you start to do more airfix they might give you one. You have a lot of revell on your channel, so maybe try asking them for a review kit.
I'm not entirely sure how it works - Airfix reached out to me first (and I initially thought it could be a scam), perhaps because i'm fairly active on social media tagging them in my builds and posts and things. Tbh, the email responses were a little slow, so perhaps yours got lost - i imagine they get thousands a day . . .
Very good review, easy going. Very interesting. Maybe Airfix could put in a can of Heineken, then it would be the best kit in the world, probably.......👍
Awesome Video, cant wait to get my hands on this kit and build it, i would like to see you do the camo variant. Also i should be getting an email to you for the subscribers showcase of my favorite airplane the P51D Mustang
The concern you have about an old kit Kat bar in a kit years from now is kinda the same I have about the acrylic paints included in the gift sets. How many years will those paints remain usable? The kit been sitting on a store shelf or warehouse somewhere for 4, 5,6 years or longer, the paint going to be any good? Personally, I use emamels anyway, but if the paint reaches it's expiration date, kinda reduces the value of the kit.
Model Minutes honestly, have bought several gift sets just for the models: Sea Harrier/ Skyhawk, Snatch/WMIK, and the Escort and Herald 1/32 cars (for Northern Ireland diorama). Wouldn't mind the HAR 3 for the markings included. Paints included not really an issue
Hi I'm looking at reviews because I want to buy one for my grandson tho question being if you can paint the plane once you have built it do you not question why there is no paint and brushes in the kit?...
Some kits, more commonly known as starter sets or gift sets, do indeed come with a selection of paints and a brush so you can complete the model to a basic standard Most kits do not come with paint though, as modellers tend to buy pots of paint from brands they prefer. They will, very likely have lots of different paints and use them on lots of different kits (you don’t normally use a whole pot on one model, there will be loads left over). Additionally if they put paint in every kit, prices would be much higher and there would be a lot of wastage. I recommend that you take a look at some of the starter kit reviews on my channel - Airfix spitfire 1/72 scale and the like
@@ModelMinutes thanks very much I understand tis true expence and wasteage and also quality play a big part in hobbies life but thanks for the info I'll treat him to a starter kit then cos I think he will enjoy painting them cheers my friend happy modeling 👌🛩️✈️🚁
@@rachelembletonpalmer5891 thanks! If you ever have any questions let me know and I will try my best to reply (RU-vid doesn’t always notify me, or you could email me - check out my “about” section on my channel). I hope your grandson enjoys his gift 😊
You really need to buy a decent camera that can focus correctly ...and maybe when you hold something up to the camera, give it half a chance and hold the item still . You have a lot of subscribers , show them some respect and get your gear in order .
Thanks for the suggestion - perhaps when i've got more money i'll be able to invest in better equipment (as you know, i don't really make any money from my channel) but i'll certainly take your recommendations on board
The poor old auto-focus was having a bad day on that review. I'm also intrigued how Airfix seems to have invented a new variant of Spitfire. I think it's supposed to be a PR Spit not an FR... Doubt whether it's the best Airfix kit ever. Ironically you have to go back to the 1960s for those.
Well actually, the FR does exist. The PR was purely Photo Reconnaissance whereas the FR stands for Fighter Reconnaissance. An aircraft that could take on both roles. Most of the FR variants were Griffon powered spits.
Most reviews of those who have built the kit seem unanimous; poor fitting parts, casting flash etc. Note to Airfix: you're not Tamiya or Eduard so keep it simple. Also Airfix appears to have little quality control over their sweat shop in India that punches these out.
Yeah, this video is over a year old from when they launched it. At the time it looked good but those who have built it have discovered the problems. If you look at my build video you’ll see that I had problems getting the wings to fit, they just don’t line up
I know what you mean: I loved the look of the Eduard Mirage IIIc as it seemed great in the box, only for that to be totally evil too! 😖 The new Eduard Tempest is also another pig dressed as a Princess! 😆😜
This kit is as bad as anything from the 70s. Thought Airfix was ment to have upped their game. Fit off parts is terrible. Surface detail l is awful . Their 1990s Seafire 46 47 is miles better.
They both have their merits - i like the development that the later versions show, but I also like the original versions as they tend to be quite interesting and have their flaws
The tyre selection depends on whether the aircraft would primarily operate off paved or unpaved runways. Block-treaded for paved and untreaded or circumferential tread for unpaved (grass or mud - as was common in Europe after D-Day).
95% of airfix`s new kits are crap. I do not buy them anymore. The design and detail at times are great even super.BUT the manufacture and QC are useless. All kit suffer with warped parts AND sink marks. Clear parts are always stratched or broken. partial moulded parts are common. And why bung all the parts in 1 bag! did I mention broken parts?I can get by with flash and parts needing a sand to fit BUT the other issues are unacceptable.you get in touch with airfix and get no reply OR when you want a replacement part to REPLACE A PROBLEM PART you are told "we can not because that kit part because the issue is with all" what??????
Wow, sounds like you've been very unlucky with your kits. I can't say i've ever experienced the problems that you've described with the airfix kits. Sometimes they release old legacy kits in new boxes which do suffer from poor detail, flash, sink marks, warped parts etc, but that's due to the age of the toolings. As for the new tool kits that have been released in the last 5 years or so, I've built quite a few and never been unlucky . . . .
This is on the new kits, would expect that on old stuff.Have you got the new 1/48th stuka? Look at the sink marks on that?I can give a list of all the new kits that are sub standard, manufacture wise, where is the QC????
No i'm yet to get the new stuka, but not heard anything about it being sub-par from others as yet. Which model manufacturers would you recommend instead of airfix?
