*NOTE: If you want to run CCU and tally via the HDMI port, you need the BiDirectional 3G Micro Converter, NOT the UpDownCross 3G... sorry for the mix-up.
BiDirectional 3G Micro Converter: amzn.to/3AnhIU8
*I've been asked a lot about compatible lenses that offer electronic zoom - there are currently 4:
LUMIX G X Vario PZ 45-175mm f/4-5.6: amzn.to/3tlzswz
LUMIX G X Vario PZ 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6: amzn.to/2X15TUF
Olympus M.Zuiko ED 12-50m f/3.5-5.6 EZ: amzn.to/2VtdP0Q
Olympus M.Zuiko ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ: amzn.to/3BKCPQo
*Please note: I am not endorsing these lenses, as I have not used any of them and cannot vouch for their quality. You must make the decision if getting an optically inferior lens (above) is worth the convenience of using broadcast-style zoom and focus control or not. I always recommend Panasonic LUMIX lenses for churches, specifically the 35-100mm f/2.8 and 12-35mm options, for their great optical quality, but they will require an external focus ring and control if you want the same kind of broadcast operation.

Appreciate your succinct features, benefits and value analysis. Also, realistic perspective on price…”if you’re in this range, this is remarkable value and ecosystem” kind of language. These are pro-grade entry level price that still holds pretty true today. We use two BMPCC 4K’s, but if these were out, would likely have bought them 4 years ago. Would have had a hard time justifying the pro over plus, but pro has better future value.

So would you need to buy the updown converter as well with these if you get the bigger $895 interface breakdown ? or is that only if you run all HDMI and Sdi. ( $895 stack is for network cat 6) Thanks man love what your doing

great video - thanks for making it. I think the people asking about AF are confusing a studio camera with a consumer camera. AF is considered a joke with professionals mainly because of focus breathing but also because the camera will always make poor decisions in regards to 'what' to focus on. BM sells a remote focus as an accessory. Even cameras that have eye detection struggle when the talent turns away and will often shift focus to the back of the room or worse just hunt for focus all over the place. These cameras are designed to work with devices like the ATEM Extreme, allowing you can control the focus of each camera via that deck - so ONE person can focus each camera and switch cameras - that one person can also match WB and other settings across all of the cameras.

We already have a PTZ covering the altar in my church and 2 Sony XDcamcorders covering just the ground floor of the congregation and we have two other floors we currently are unable to film and I was looking for a reliable option to add to our setup for the other two floors, can the 4k pros serve this purpose and do they output 1080i50? Cause that's what all the cameras in out setup are currently set to.

So I am creating a video podcast and I was going to purchase 3 BMPCC 4K cameras but recently I found out about the studio plus and pro models, (thank you for the great video by the way!) Could you help me make up my mind? Should I stay with the cheaper 4k model or should I make up my mind between the studio 4k plus or pro, while keeping in mind all I'm doing is a simple video podcast. always tripod mounted, never run and gun. Now the next question regarding the Studio Plus and Pro, Is it worth upgrading to the studio pro to get the built-in XLR inputs? I believe I was planning on using a Zoom H6 to capture audio from the table mounted microphones. I'm honestly not sure the difference here or which option is better when capturing audio. sending audio to the zoom h6 or directly to the individual camera. Update: After reading the comments I see people are complaining about the autofocus on these cameras so now I'm even more confused as which ones would be better for a video podcast 😵‍💫 also I'm not sure how important shooting in pro res would be? For all intents and purposes I am a noob jumping into an ocean of things I don't understand... I'm just trying to create some fire content eventually. any help would be greatly appreciated!, Thank you!

those focus assits we have found become a bit of a crutch for our operators. I Agree the focus is a bit lacking but as he mention the zoom and focus demand addons really help level up the gear to that professional level and allow people to gain good industry standard skills pulling focus or zoom. It doubles as something easy to integrate volunteers who are wanting to learn ops can shadow and try their hand on the camera while the season op can do zoom and focus.

@ProfitandPixels

The capability is built in, but you need a proper connection to an ATEM switcher running ATEM Control software to use color correction. Connection type depends on which switcher model you’re using

It's very easy. First set the kelvin (3200 for conventional stage light) then under the recording tab you'll see "dynamic range" choose "extended video". And you'll have a very nice looking stream and recording.
@haavardnj

What you said about the UpDownCross converter is completely wrong. If you want to use Tally and CCU you have to buy the 3G BiDirectional which is the only adapter which will work for this. Also Intercom and return video is not available (HDMI is not bidirectional for video)
@ProfitandPixels
@ProfitandPixels 2 года назад
You’re right on the converter- it would work for standard conversion like I said, but not tally and CCU it appears. If BMD made less than 100 different converters maybe I could actually keep it straight! HDMI alone does return CCU and tally, but not in a full program return signal
@MCMendivil
@MCMendivil 2 года назад
So if I simply purchased the 4k plus studio camera with just the HDMI, I could run a HDMI cable from the camera to an ATEM Mini Pro and that would convert it so the ATEM Mini Pro would take care of that and I don't need that other Ethernet Converter box you mentioned for the more expensive 4k pro studio camera?
@MCMendivil

Hi, I do have a question I can't seem to get an answer anywhere, and maybe I am overthinking it. Our church uses the Roland V-8HD Video Switcher with 4 Canon XA-40s. We want to turn away from using camcorders. Will these Blackmagic cameras work with our switcher? I personally have 0 experience with Blackmagic products, but I have heard people say they only work well in their own ecosystem of devices. I dont want to purchase these cameras and then having them not work because Blackmagic isn't compatible with Roland or some issue of the sort.

If they had continuous AF that would make me want these for a church environment. This is THE dealbreaker for me. I don't expect everyone using this camera to be a seasoned cam op so its a necessary feature. It doesn't even have to be EYE AF but even my FS100 that I bought used 7 years ago has decent autofocus. All of the other brands have shown that this is what users want now. Reliable AF is a thing.

Still not impressed. Why didn't blackmagic studio camera 4k plus/pro go all out? High and low angle of view practicality is very bad in practical use if the viewfinder image cannot be viewed. Why doesn't blackmagic design allow the viewfinder to tilt up and down? It's going to have the versatility and beautiful angles that a studio should be. For a little while, you'll be dominating the market in this industry but you don't make it happen. Hopefully this comment the design engineers of blackmagic design will see and make it.
