This is so cool! Im really glad you do LoTR and SW content instead of just Warhammer, its not something I see often and you do an extraordinary job on setting everything up and delivering it. The terrain and scenery is truly top notch and your channel has easily and very quickly become one of my top 10 favorite channels on youtube 😊
I can't wait to use the linked death rules for the Gondor and Rohan books too, like what off Boromir survives and then makes it to the battle of helms deep, keeps his fellowship profile until reaching Gondor once again. So many cool oppertunaties that could arise, may mes with balancing but it would be fun
He is higher than the others, they just tried to have his base rime still hidden, but I agree it soulcd have been more exaggerated. I would have taken him off the base for the shoot and put him on brass rod stilts.
Super video and really enjoyable. Thanks for taking the time to run through all of them. Loved the energy you had in describing all of them, and in particular the Gollum-voice for the Cirith Ungol Legion! Really well done. Thank you!!
I don't play MESBG, but have watched a lot of your content recently and I'm loving it - great work! This book sounds like an incredible addition to the game, look forward to seeing some of the scenarios in future 👍
This version of the fellowship is called "the breaking of the fellowship" its long been OOP, but it was made to order not to long ago and luckily I got my greasey hands on a set.
Can't wait to get this. I am new to SBG. I just bought box set and Rohan house. So I need to get my Pelendor Fields box set finished painted 1st. & Fellowship box. But really excited for this. Even more excited after watching your video!
love the review. My book is coming to me! One question: is there any kind os special rule that helps the troll on balin's tomb? Is one of our favourite scenarios but almost every time we play it, the poor troll die awesome fast! I would like to see some help to his durability to get it time to shine like in the movie and put things hard for the fellowship.
That book looks like the best one yet! I love the fantasy fellowship, and some of those scenarios sounds amazing! I cant wait to watch you guys play it! Thanks for the video. I agree about rangers thoigh, 100% shooty armies should have a rule where they minus 1 to hit rolls imo, ive been broken before even getting within charging range before! Great vid thanks pal!
Man, I was hoping Lurtz's Scouts would have the 33% break point, and as much as I like the bonuses, I dunno if the Lurtz only buffs of Worthy Foe and Shield Yeet are enough to justify an all scout legion given how squishy they can be. He should have always been allowed a one off shield toss I reckon.
I love the fact i can have a move 8 all scout army led by lurtz. If i ws to grasp or tweek id love to see.Lurtzs shield should be an auto hit(like you said) or able to recover it if he hits when throwing it on the charge in so long as it hits. Also a built fury wound save like bersekers for lurtz( he did get reved up from pulling a dagger from his leg and licked it, dirty) Or in this legion he can extend his find the halfings rule to each warband. Selecting where and when the appear in maelstroms.
Full Rohan Fellowship. Merry as ring bearer, Eowyn as his back up. Theodred can still die. Eomer replace Aragorn, Grimbold has an axe (and no horse 😭) Elfhelm is quite shooty, Then plenty of hero's to chose from. Sorry I'm rambling here, but you could take a battle company on the journey, or certain members anyway. This is gonna be fun haha
Oooooh winters coming and that means Yule time will soon be here. Plenty of new Lotr stuff to go on a gift list this year. Need to get all the scenario books on my shelf.
In regards to the rangers legendary legion do you think a "points tax" could make it more interesting? For example if you take it you have to take 25% less points in a competitive setting (in a 400 points game they have to take 300 points, 1000 points would be 750 etc etc). It could be made themey by saying they are a light skirmishing force so are generally a smaller more elite force, hopefully it would limit them just blasting the other force off the board and need a little more brain power to outmanoeuvre the other player.
A good suggestion but I think just make the list better to start with. Although you could create an effective points tax by either changing the costs of units from their normal list, which they've never done, and will never do, or forcing them to take less shoot units like Frodo, Sam and Gollum. But I honestly don't know how to fix them. They just need to not exist I'm afraid and have an Osgiliath themed legion instead.
Zorpazorp awesome video btw, think I’ll need to place an order and get this book, it’ll be a cool campaign to run after a battle companies one I’m in at the moment.
I'll allow it... Haha, great video mate, keep up the excellent work. Any plans on dedicated painting videos for the Middle Earth Minis, could use some help
Oh... please is it possible to play through this fantasy fellowship on the channel? I would love to see this as I dont have that many hero models myself to play it... 🤗🤗🤗 Would love this 😍 Pls Dont sleep on this 😆
Thank you Lachlan! Quest for the Ringbearer is easily my favourite sourcebook, Love the scenarios, the fellowship specific linked bonuses and recovery. Also the extra scenarios for the wacky fantasy fellowship was probably the big surprise! Regarding Legions, my favourite is the fellowship but definitely cirith ungol and the Nazgul are honourable mentions... i personally would run the rangers with faramirs warband all osgiliath vets and maybe 50% rangers at most in other warbands...More like a defence of osgiliath to take part in all facets of play with my opponent having fun! Keep up the great work!👌
Love the look of this book! the scenarios, hell yes love them! the fantasy fellowship, gimme I wanna play that right now! I have to agree with you on Lurtz' Legion, I was really hoping for something a bit more, The shield being an auto hit would have been real nice, especially given its a one off, compare that to the once per model ability of the Wraiths? possibly 9 chances to Channel transfix is much better than a str 4 throwing weapon with knockdown that could easily miss (3+ is good, but not compared to auto-cast) I really think it needed just a little extra something. Every other Legion I do love though! Thanks for breaking it down mate, very cool!
Given all my previous games with him, I can hardly wait to shout FOOL OF A GREENLEAF after each game :) Thanks for the review Lachie! Skipped the things I didn't want to know in detail (scenario details + LL) but all the mechanics + Fantasy FS sound amazing. Hopefully we're getting a lot of oop models making a return to the range as there's just too much goodness in this book alone! And a redone plastic mini here & there :)
Is it possible for Gandalf/your wizard to get an Elven cloak? I'm going to paint all my fellowship now and want the cloaks to all come out the same, so wondering if I should do a spare Gandalf with an EC just in case.
I would have liked rules for changing scenarios so you can do fantasy fellowships at different points levels, e.g. what if the high elf lords had gone to destroy the ring
I find this very interesting and it does sound fun! But really dislike that you can never "save" Boromir, everything else sound fun though. Can't wait for you to post videos about this :)
I wonder if they could have balanced the Ithilien LL by reducing all rangers of Gondor to F3 instead of F4, with a rule that talks about how the Rangers of Ithilien, the LL depicting them as masters of the ambush, have set themselves up to attack from range and their skirmish strategy barely involved the anticipation of getting close enough to enemies to see the whites of their eyes.
I do like to see an excited Lacchie! This looks like a fantastic book, thanks for the overview. I wonder if they're planning to do something similar for The Hobbit as well. Hope so. Thanks again!
So has anyone compiled a list of all the models that you’d need to play through all of the scenarios? Asking as a player who’s never made the dive into MESBG, but is very interested in this book, but it seems like it’d get expensive...
Could you do a list of the best narrative scenarios across the game? Maybe you could contrast how fun they are vs how complicated it is to get the models for the scenario. I would like to run a few but not sure what to go for.
Liked the intro! Trying hard not to watch the rest of the video before I get my own copy... Is it weird that I don't want to hear spoilers for a rulebook?
Not at all man! I was the same myself before this became my job :) Not everyone wants the goss early, but many like to ride the hype train! To each our own :)
So hyped for the black riders! I don't care if it's not going to podium, but if it's good enough to play an engaging game for both players consistently? Then sign me up! (to be fair I ordered the 9 named ringwraith models alongside this book anyway just to play the legion even if it sucked...)
Love these in depth reviews. Feel like this book as so much more flavor than Necromancer and Defense of the North. Great video as usual. Need to find this book
@@Zorpazorp it is yet somehow I skipped this gem of a book. Thought for sure I would never buy into 2k worth of models and yet few years later here i am. #addictedmesbg
Hey, I’m trying to get into middle earth SBG and just bought the battle of the pellet or fields core set. I saw that all the unit profiles for the characters were in the booklet it came with. I was wondering if all units you buy come with their unit profile, or if there is some book you need to buy to get the profiles
Only recently got this book and trying to get together enough models to do all the scenarios...shame you can't get the generic Black Riders or Dead Marsh Spectres or Barrow-Wights from GW anymore. Hoping they bring them back to avoid inflated ebay prices.
Gildor Inglorion. I've wanted a reasonably priced miniature of him for ages. Any idea if he's coming back as a limited release or otherwise any time soon?
It seems a shame that when the Gandalf replacement comes back that it is not +1 attack instead of attacks 1 to 2. As that makes more combat orientated characters like Celeborn and Elrond not get as much of a power increase.
Some of these rules, especially the ones for the game 'End of All Things' concerning the power of the Ring were in the old Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game Magazine ... so awesome to see that make it into this book! Those magazines were so great and how I built my collection. Do you think they will do more books like these for the other Fellowship Members? I know the journey books sort of cover that but they also cover a lot of the Ring Bearer stuff and they still make this book so maybe?
@@Zorpazorp wow I've been out of the game for a while, I didn't even realise there was a Gondor at War, War in Rohan and Scouring of the Shire supplement!!! :O ... well my bank account is going to take a massive hit!
I have no knowledge of this game, I play 40K. What do you need to play? Do the rules assume you have all the characters and terrain to match the scenario?
@Zorpazorp, i got this game because of your videos. Not many people play near me but i hope to get some people to play some scenarios. Wish this game wasn't so expensive bc i want to make all the armies. lol. love your videos.
@@Zorpazorp In your opinion, where would be a good place to start for narrative play? should i start somewhere in the middle since i have the pelennor fields box? or should i start from the beginning in the Hobbit series and work up from there? Obviously getting the armies as i need them for the scenarios.
@@toejamkook I'd play through this book to be honest! Frodo leavintg the shire, it's a great small scale to begin with and they're good fun scnearios. Then your games get bigger as you go :)
I really hope they redo some of the Isengard leaders in plastic or at least finecast. Other than Saruman people who dislike metal (like me) have a hard time without a lot of conversion work. I’m still trying to figure out what to do for Isengard banners.
Do you think they'll ever bring the mounted Nazgul back into production? Kind of hard to play the Ford's of Bruined without them 😉. God I hope thet bring them back. Always wanted them!!
@@Zorpazorp I've literally just bought the final Mounted Nazgul off Ebay to complete the 9 ... and GW have just announced they are bringing them back into production!! What are the chances! At least I managed to get the Mounted Witch King ... doesn't look like they are bringing him back.
So I just listened to the warhammer community podcast about this book. I'm a HUGE Tolkien fan and tried to stay away from SBG to save myself... I dont think I can stay away any longer. This book looks incredible!!! Would this be a good book to start with?
Honestly think this can be the best book to start with, if you have any interest in the Narrative Scenarios. The game really shines here IMO and I would certainly recommend it. Seeing it follows the well known story, lots of smaller battles to play and just fun to be had overall :)
Those are some of my fav volumes! Quest is Frodo centric in one volume, has a beautifully linked campaign, rules for making fantast fellowships and new profiles and legions :)
Can anyone tell me what warriors are needed to play all the scenarios in the quest of the ringbearer? I really want to get this book, but I'm not sure how much extra stuff I must buy.
@@Zorpazorp funny was looking through the table layouts and models used and think I've a years worth of hobby there! 😂 Thankfully there a lot of use between scenarios for some of the terrain. Just need to watch for ideas of each terrain type. 🤔
All shooting armies *ARE* boring. Back in the Legions of Middle-earth days, one of my regular opponents had the Grey Company as one of his armies. I loathed every single game we played.
