At last someone made a quite strong compact tactical floodlight, the best for close proximity and and if the light is strong enough you can see far as well. For sure a smooth floodlight is my favourite kind of light and for an everyday user the most usable too, people use their flashlights 99% for close proximity and a hotspot won't blind you. If I would buy a new flashlight now this would be the one

This has the best tactical features I have seen in a flashlight. Settings are 4,000, 850, 300, and 50. Others I seen says the brightest setting and strobe. That is it. Has great runtimes for a single battery. Nitecore also has something you can put on the battery to use as a power bank or to charge. I have a spare battery I plan on doing that with. Also planing to get two more. If I had to choice 1 flashlight. This would be it.

Great review. This literally looks like the perfect tactical flashlight to me. I really like the combination of the floody light output with the super rapid access strobe light and rapid access holster. It also looks like an excellent grid down/camping/ hiking flashlight as well. In fact, this may be the perfect flashlight for the guy that just wants one flashlight that will do everything and do it well.

I had a dog charge me at 1am while looking for the meteor shower 2 days ago. I hit the 4k full blast and the dog stopped in its tracks and retreated. My adrenalin was through the roof, the flashlight worked perfectly. I made a report of the encounter. I had pepperspray and a knife on me, but only used the P10iX

Great video. I never realised that the NL2150HPi batteries could be charged in other none Nitecore chargers, due to the battery having positive and negative terminals on both ends. I've got the P23i arriving today, which has a more focused/longer reaching beam than the P20iX (which is more flood and less distance). The more focused/longer reaching beam of the P23i is of more use to me than more flood and less distance, it's great that we have a choice depending on our desired use.

I have carried a P20i at work for a couple of years.. great flashlight. This seems to be the higher lumen version.. even the same name except for the added X at the end. The holsters it comes with are amazing,, wish Nitecore would start selling them seperately since so many of their lights will fit this holster.

Hi, thank you for the positive AND comprehensive review. This is why people go to RU-vid after having gone through the instruction manual, just to properly internalise everything proper before taking it into the field. As for the mode switch function - I see it like field stripping an automatic pistol.. Yoy also have to grab the firearm awkward, pull awkwardly, then follow through on the third stage, make and model of the handgun depending then. The tactical mode is a god sent, I just think the time spent on the long hold, could be shortened by half a second, maybe a notch more. I understand the TURBO mode in an assailant's eyes will immediately throw them off their game, especially at night, however, its better to throw him off using the strobe, in my opinion, as this not only momentarily blinds, but also disorientates and will break his speed. The light only will in most cases, only cause him to cover his face, but he'll still cone at you. Thank goodness for the striking bezel - this will do more damage to the human skull, in my opinion, than a steel baton.. It creates a sort of penetrative pain on a focused area that shifts the attacker's attention to that spot. The stabbing action necessary means you can even get into his guard, and with a 20cm thrust, get him good in the face. Trust me when I say that this bezel is not afraid of bone, teeth or a hardshell helmet... Otherwise, Mr. Crispy, please get the knuckle duster attachment and do a review of that for us on this flashlight as well. My only gripe is that, and it is a bitter one - the hardshell holster supplied here will loose its retaining strength after about one and a half years. So I bought the CYTAC CY-FH01B to address this. I lost my P20i chasing a suspect in the woods. I think something snagged the light on my side while I wasn't aware. Damned shame that was. The P20iX nevertheless was the upgrade I needed nevertheless.. If you're a door kicker, I strongly suggest taking this. Not so much a rifle lamp I'd say, in my opinion - running the old MH12GTS for that w/ the GM02 and works well. I like the fact that these lamps don't create a hotspot, which really messes with a laser pointer, your ACOG reticle and triton open sights. You can still run your electronic optics with these lights - just up the brightness setting a notch or two.

I’m unaware of a knuckle duster attachment for this light. I’ll have to look into it. Thanks for the heads up!

I like my 4400 lumen Nitecore E4K. But I don't like the fact that the battery they have for that has the USB slot in it. So that means you have to remove the battery to charge it, and you can't use another brand 21700 battery because it'll be too short to make contact inside the shaft.

Great review. Your reviews are the perfect mix of detail and impressions and have helped me buy 3 flashlights in the last couple weeks as I move from well-built but low lumen/runtime Surefires to Olights, Fenix, Nitecore. I have one suggestion though. Only showing beam shots on TURBO a lot of the time is not as helpful as showing other modes. Please see if you can show the other modes in appropriate locations. Since none of these lights is useful on turbo for very long, I'd much rather see "High" and the mid/low modes in appropriate settings. Keep up the great work.
@ChrispyThings

Yes definitely. I usually start with low but quickly move through the modes to get to turbo so I can absolutely show more of the lower modes. Plus I’ve started doing inside shots too. Thanks for the suggestion

I'm in the same boat right now... Replacing all my 'Surefire' type lights (including some BLF special runs) with newer powerhouses like this p20ix - and will be getting the 10,000-lumen Fenix LR35R next month. I'm usually up at night and like to walk my dog at say, 2:00am or so. It's a pretty decent neighborhood, but still maybe not the best - so I want a super-light like that Fenix for it's sheer stunning blindness self-defense effects (which also has a non-linear strobe I think, like this p20ix). At the same time, I'm also replacing all my EDC lights with only 21700 options -- other than one single-AAA/10400 light for mouth-holding and battery compatibility away from chargers and one 18650 thrower, since I usually find flood more useful for my needs. I'm going to get spoiled by these longer run-times. So, only 6 new lights in 2 months. I fear I have awakened the flashaholic in me again. 🤦 Ehh, at least when it gets awakened I usually 'only' get a plethora and then just stop. I'm usually up at night though, so having many flashlights makes some sense for me. My latest run so far is including Olight, Thrunite, Nitecore, and Fenix. One thing I still can't believe is how much brighter these newer powerhouse lights are compared to the 'Surefire' types - which are still absolutely nothing to scoff at, really - but when compared to these newer lights, HOLY CRAP! They just look so sad and pitiful by comparison now. 😎 My once-proud Surefire types --- may they RIP in my personal flashlight museum. Let us have a moment of silence. 😔

I love that holster as well, but there actually is a better one. I don't remember if they make it or not, Id have to look through my stuff. But it is the exact same except it is rotatable, which is a totally awesome feature. I love this light too, but it suffers from the same problem that a lot of them do--they can't really perform at the levels they advertise for very long. I'd almost rather have a much larger flashlight that could actually maintain those levels longer, but its still a great light.

- When using Tactical Mode: The Higher (1700 Lumens) and Ultralow (2 Lumins) brightness levels are not available. 'Constant access' to Turbo Mode (4000 Lumens), but the Catch 22 is that the flashlight will step down in brightness after 30 seconds. Triple Press or Long Press the Mode Button to give constant access to strobe (4000 Lumens) with any brightness level selected. - When using Daily Mode: Press and hold the Mode Button will give 'momentary access' to Turbo (4000 Lumens) with any brightness level selected (the flashlight will step down in brightness after 30 seconds). Triple press the Mode Button to give constant access to strobe (4000 Lumens) with any brightness level selected. Turbo (4000 Lumens) only lasts for approximately 30 seconds before stepping down in brightness. When in Daily Mode, you can release the Mode Button and then press and hold the Mode Button again to reengage Turbo (4000 Lumens), but if one does this more than 3 times, the flashlight gets very hot. Turbo (4000 Lumens) is not meant to be used for more than a minute or two in either Tactical or Daily mode. So the moral of the story is that this is a constant 1700 Lumens flashlight with a momentary/limited 4000 Lumens capability.

I just bought one. The holster is really handy but the clip hanging off it that attaches to your belt seems too thin/plasticy and a weak point. The other weak point as is the rubber switch shroud on the back. I can see that wearing and cracking over the medium term and they should have supplied a spare for that. Other than that the light seems like a great general purpose light.

I think I would be more interested in the non X version compared to the Olight Warrior X 3 or Pro because i'm more into hybrid throwers. This flashlight seems insanely good and almost flawless, if it wasn't for the proprietary batteries becoming more and more common now across the different brands, the tail cap tactical mode vs normal mode that has to be rotated (not the best design choice clearly but the feature is there) and somewhat the external charging port being a possible failure point but I'm not too concerned about this. Great review!

More manufacturers are basically designing a battery than building a light to go around it. This is why special flashlights use certain batteries - proprietary- and as newer brighter lights are introduced the older lights can’t use the newer batteries. I am trying to think of how many manufacturers are doing it the same way as they are trying to push the limits even higher with their new lights. I don’t mind the newer flashlights using their special proprietary batteries because I don’t think it will be that much longer before let’s just say NiteCore will come out with more flashlights that will also use the special batteries. NiteCore has one or two more lights that use this same battery got a couple newer lights now. But I think for some like yourself it might be a hard sell possibly having older lights with the 18650 batteries that they have accumulated over time like myself. Right now I have 14 still very good 18650 batteries that are still very good yet with my job as a LEO and a SAR agent I want and need the newer lights for what more they offer. While I am on SAR missions I am required to carry three lights with 2 extra spare batteries for each. BTW I have no issues breaking vehicle windows using it with 2 or 3 blows my fellow officers have purchased it and some EMT specialists. I have the NiteCore P30i that I use for a thrower but I am waiting to see if or when NiteCore comes out with a newer one. I get a very hefty discount from our NiteCore supplier but if I didn’t like the their lights I would go to other brands like Olight to which I own a few now such as the Warrior. But I will say it sure would be nice like a couple years ago when all my lights were using 18650 batteries. As for twisting the end cap to switch modes mine stays put on tactical but I am not the biggest fan of both switches being on the end cap at times I have found it clumsy at least for myself. I truly do like this light and I can over look any small short comings it may have simply because there are so many positives. Thanks

NITECOrE. One of the best made torches IMHO. Own a 2014 P16....hadn't touched it for almost 8 years...powered it up...NP11 Using Cr1124A batteries. And the light output didn't look diminished. Would I buy one again? Maybe. Only sticking point is they are shipped from Hong Kong even if ordered through Aamazon. Not sure if my current Nitecore torch came from HK too then. The switching from Duty to Tactical...not a big deal IMHO for LE. Just need to remember to switch it to "tactical" before going on patrol or "on duty". Not a big thing. Thrunite (the one I have tN12/2014) worked for a few days. then the charge died out. Held it like the Nitecore for arund 8 years. Didn't "drain out". But for some reason the Thrunite isn't powering up. Misplace the batter that came with it...tried CR123's and a geneeric 18540...no dice. wondering if it requires proprietary battary even if pople say it doesnt...though they might be referring to a 2016 model which might have inor changeds to allow that...shrug. will have to buy a 2022 or 2023 Thrunite that comes with a thrunite battery to test. Olight Baston I have from 2014 worked with a CR123... :)

Hi Chris, hi guys! I fell in love with flashlights recently. I live in France: there are very few means of defense that are both legal and effective in the event of an attack in an urban area. Flashlights are therefore an excellent option for getting out of risky situations. I need an advice. Olight, with its aggressive marketing strategy, is a brand that has become essential: it cannot be ignored. But we can say what we want to say this point, Olight designs good products, in my opinion. I have three: my first and favorite flashlight that replaced my "Stiletto" pocket knife for going out in town, the Warrior 3. Perfect to hold, perfect to carry and draw, two switches, a Turbo mode as well as a a strobe quickly accessible in case of stress and a crenellated head which will never replace a blade but which has the advantage of being legal ! The other two, I bought them because there were good discounts on the prices offered: an Olight Baton 3 (ideal for staying at home. Like the Warrior 3, I classify it as an "S" rank) and the Olight Warrior X 3 (no useless option, it's an advantage. But no strobe and a little more technical to draw, I find. It's a very good flashlight but less useful for the use I have of it and for my level: rank "A"). I watch French-speaking RU-vid channels a lot ("Le Goût des Lampes", the most original, but the partnership with Olight spoils the negative opinions when there is something to say). "Chrispy Things" is my favorite English channel: it goes straight to the point, it exposes the pros and cons. That's cool and I encourage you to continue like that. I regret not having known of its existence earlier 😅 Coming to my question, I don't want to replace my Warrior 3. I find it excellent. But there are other brands besides Olight that seem to make great products too! Hence this need for "lighting" of connoisseurs and professionals working in security: the Nitecore P20iX and the Fenix TK16 V2.0 often come up in the comments under the videos. For those who own these self-defense oriented tactical flashlights, are you satisfied with them? Do you have preferences for other models? Not necessarily at Olight, Nitecore or Fenix: anywhere else 🙂 My criteria for my use of a tactical flashlight as a civilian: a head with which you can hit and hurt (the crenellated crowns help on this point), intuitive access to Turbo mode or Strobe mode in emergency situations, a reliable torch even after several drops on asphalt, and a light beam emphasizing width rather than maximum reach. Other criteria such as belt clips, "holsters" supplied with flashlights, battery charge indicators, use of a proprietary battery and the way to recharge it (magnetic, external port or obligation to take out the battery to connect the cable), etc., are secondary. They are still important, of course, but I try to target models resembling the Olight Warrior 3. The world of flashlights is so vast and interesting, I would really like to discover other horizons, other brands and other models just as well designed as the Warrior 3 (for example, the crown of the Thrunite BSS v4 is excellent for hitting but reduces the light beam: this is a crippling defect in my opinion). I copy and paste this request under the three videos thanks to which I have known this great channel: the Olight Warrior 3, the Fenix TK16 v2 and the Nitecore P20iX. Hoping to have some interesting leads from you 😉 Thanks everyone, and "restez éclairés" 💡😙

The problem with this, and an increasing number of flashlights, is the proprietary batteries. If they stop producing the battery then it's SOL, and replacements/extras are $$$. Other than the battery issue I love the design.

You can always use 3rd party batteries from samsung or other name brands and they work just as fine
@mikeag
@mikeag 3 года назад
@@blackened1031 I truly wish they do, but they don't. The proprietary batteries have both positive and negative at both ends and many have smart functions built in to them. O-Light, Acebeam, Nightcore, and many others started making their new flashlights that only work with proprietary batteries. The batteries are standard sizes, but they have extra contact rings and control circuitry. Even Fenix started embedding their smart circuitry in 21700s for battery management and charge level detection. If you use a third party battery, the battery level leds don't work. Even my Fenix pd40r v.2 loses battery check and overcharge protection functionality if you don't use the Fenix 21700 cell.

Pro's and con's between this and the Fenix tk16 v2......anyone?
@joseasf96
@joseasf96 2 года назад
Watching Longhorn Tactical's comparison you can see the differences in beam type mainly, this Nitecore being quite brighter in a wider range, which consecuently limits it to a shorter range. For durations and output levels you can see their respective tables in this channel's reviews along the temperatures and stepdowns, which occur at any output over 1000. The Fenix wins in the stepdowns with a longer turbo and smoother drop but the Nitecore has a moonlight mode apart from the tactical/daily modes. Lastly, they both seem to have an effective UI with I think half press and instant turbo and strobe, the Fenix arguably having the simpler but a bit more delayed strobe access without the separation of tactical/daily modes. Other considerations are the fall resistance (Nitecore 2m vs Fenix 1,5m) and the different charging methods, the propietary battery with the flashlight port of the Nitecore vs more battery options in the Fenix, theirs having the port on it. Personally, I went with this Nitecore because of the wider beam despite the sacrifice in reach as it is better to cover a close area. Like DrivE commented, this beam is better around the house without a blinding spot and a moonlight mode. I may get another one with a longer range for the outdoors in the future. I also think it would be easier to blind somebody in a self defense situation with this since it would likely happen up close like Kyle's 😏🍷 and you wouldn't need to aim it much. Hope it helped, might update when I have it with effective blinding distance if you'd like.

In the market for a flashlight that can stay at approximately 4000 lumens for a significant amount of time. I prefer something that throws well, but also has some spill. But more importantly, a light that can stay at around 4K lumens for the longest. Any suggestions?
@ChrispyThings
@ChrispyThings 2 года назад
Off the top of my head, the one that I can think of now is the Fenix LR50R. If you want sustained 4000 or more lumens, it needs to be a larger light. That 4000 needs to be a high setting, not turbo since companies put the maximum output on turbo but only for 30 seconds or so. LR50R is 12000 lumens on turbo but can do 3000 or 6000 lumens for hours at a time

That holster is garbage. I made several arrests with it on my belt and the light fell out each time. The clip part is super bendy aswell so if you get the holster snagged on something while its on your duty belt that little spacer thingy will fall out. I bought the other holster but because it sits closer to your body and because of the exposed button at the end of the light it tends to catch my vest as I sit down and turn the light on. That nearly started a fire in my car because it melted completely through the bottom of the holster. I eventually dropped the light from a low height onto concrete, it landed on its side but that still shattered the lens completely so dont expect to use this as a glassbreaker. Functionality wise this light is awesome once its in your hand. I especially like the straight to strobe option.

Nitecore has completely copied the Klarus UI on their tactical torches, who have had this set-up for many years, apart from the mode change. I have the XT21X pro, which is 4400 lumens, but it's a single LED with a higher peak beam intensity and longer throw. It also has a side switch which can be locked out. The head diameter is 41mm which is a bit bulky depending which pocket I have it clipped in, but the slightly larger head diameter will likely let it run longer on turbo than this Nitecore. The Nitecore has a 2m impact resistance compared to the Klarus 1m, but who knows if that actually makes any difference real world. Pros and cons! Seems cool but maybe too similar to my Klarus to pick one up.

Olight used to send me lights in advance to let people know of the flash sale. They stopped due to the fact that I was actually reviewing their lights and pointing out negatives. If they didn't want us to be honest then I agree....but they're like many companies who only want good reviews. Take Harbor Freight for example. If you write a less than good review, they remove it and it's stated in their TOS that they have that right.
