Very happy to see RSL back in business! I had a close friend way back in highschool (early 80's) who owned a pair of their large cabinet speakers. He just loved their speakers! In fact, the RSL store in Torrance (where I grew up) stood for quite a while! Wow this sure brings back memories.
Thanks for watching! They're really an awesome company with a great backstory, and we're happy to have gotten a chance to work with them for this review. 😀
I’m really surprised these aren’t more popular. I bought two of them about 8 months ago and I’m floored by how good they are. I’m a 2 channel guy. I’ve ran them stereo at speaker level like REL or Paul from PS audio suggests and I’ve also used them with a DSP to try and smooth out the response. To be quite honest, they’ve always sounded clean and punchy regardless of my situation in what could arguably be too big of room. I’m sure there’s others I’d like better, but I doubt they’d be anywhere near the price point. As a side, before purchasing, I had some email correspondence with Joe Rogers..... incredibly friendly and helpful, that’s huge for me.
Thank you very much for watching & we're glad to hear about your positive experience with RSL and Joe himself! These are seriously some fantastic subs for the money and we're surprised they're not more popular as well!
Thanks for watching!! That's really good to hear - the Speedwoofer really surprised us with its versatility in that regard, blends really well with other setups. 😀
Great video guys. I love it when manufacturers let you take their stuff apart! Really lets you see the build quality that goes in to some of these products
Thank you so much Kyle! These guys are very passionate about their products - it was really awesome to get to open up the sub and share what it looks like on the inside! 😀
Thank you very much!! We really appreciate your support & we're glad you liked the review and the product! We really had a lot of fun reviewing this sub. 😀
Bro you've got the PERFECT voice to narrate those wildlife type documentaries. If they ever reboot those 80's 'Wild America' shows (I believe his name was Marty Stouffer?), you will definitely get the job!
We were really impressed with its performance for the price - especially with music! Hopefully this helps to get the word out about RSL speakers! Thanks for watching Barrett!! 😀
Yep availability can be tough with these subs! Hopefully you can get your hands on some because they are really a great value. We wish you all the best and thanks for watching! :)
I have had bigger, louder, and more expensive subs, but this is the best I have ever had. Many subs have been purchased and returned and the little speedwoofer remains. Buy two of these and enjoy your life.
Absolutely agree!! The 10S is a pretty amazing value if you just want a subwoofer that does what it says on the box and does it well. Thanks for watching :)
Congrats on the new sub & thanks for watching! We hope you enjoy it! We'll also be coming out with a review in the next couple weeks on the RSL CG3 5.1 surround system featuring this sub as well - it'll be interesting to see how well they go together!
@@tycheesey I'm very interested in these. I've heard so many good things about them. I'm definitely going to get two of them. What size room do you have them in?
@@capnsnaxx It is an open concept basement living room. 50x30 foot with an entertainment alcove and stairwell against one of the long walls. 9 foot ceilings except right above the viewing theater area, it drops down to 8 foot. The subs fill this space beautifully. The subs are part of the front stage, inside the theater alcove.
I bought one at the 'old' price and am very satisfied. I purchased a less 'nimble' sub from SVS and use it for the very bottom. Got to have the ability to drive them and my receivers MUST have the ability to do so. I'm damn happy.
I was so lucky to grab them right as they came into stock... grabbed 2 of them for my 11 x 11 home theater room and they are absolutely amazing... chest pounding thumping but clean and precise at the same time... with 2 there is so much headroom that when stuff goes boom... not only do i really really feel it, but im not afraid to push the volume up on the knob... i have plenty of wiggle room
@@tuckerdgreat I have Elac Debut 2.0 B6.2’s for fronts Elac Debut 2.0 C6.2 for center And for my surround / rears I went with fluance bipolar SXBP2 The Elac debut rears were not a good fit for my room or else I would have got them.. but I figured rears are the least important to match brands since no real dialogue comes out of them
Excellent review. Very helpful details and meaningful descriptions. RSL makes some seriously great products of high quality and very reasonable prices. I believe your review prompts me to put the 10S Speedwoofer at the top of my subwoofer shopping list.
Thanks for watching! Yep this is really a great sub for $400. We're also in the process of reviewing another sub that we think is amazing for the price - the Aperion Audio Bravus 12D - it's a little more money but it's pretty amazing for $999! 😀
You sold me. I own a perfect pair of rsl 3800 studio monitors. Looking to build a vintage rsl with current rsl home theater which can play music, esp lps on a dual cs 708q turntable. Howard is a legend in so cal. His 3600 studio monitors are better sounding than the jbl l100s.
I've had a very hard time finding a better low-priced subwoofer than my $350 8" Audioengine S8 but it sure looks like this one bests mine for only $50 more
You should try Robocop 2 the gunfire in one part if you have enough watts the shots will be felt in your chest.... At least when I used my d9s on 3ft dressers..... I enjoyed your review. BTW Everybody who has D9s has speaker foam rot. What is the best replacement for 15 " cvs without sacrificing the big deep rockin sound?
Great video! I’m in Australia so I’ll need to import it - but I think it’s still better value than subwoofers easily available in Australia at same price.
Thanks for watching! This review was mostly focused on the subwoofer but we did give our impressions on it being used in a Home Theater setup with other Home Theater speakers - but if you want to check out more reviews with this subwoofer, search our channel for our RSL speaker reviews - where we also feature the Speedwoofer 10S! Hope this helps :)
Thank you very much for watching & for the kind words! We've been trying to get in touch with Emotiva and companies that distribute their products so we can get our hands on this subwoofer as well as their other products, so if we do, we'll be sure to compare them to the best of our ability! Unfortunately, we don't have the Speedwoofer 10S anymore, but we'll try to be as detailed as we can. Thank you again!!
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately these have been out of stock for a while, the only thing we can suggest is to keep trying to get one from the company.
I am really on the fence right now between this sub and the HSU Research VTF2-MK5 as I feel that both of them are arguably the best bang for buck in their respective price points. On the one hand the RSL wins on price point and compact footprint BUT HSU wins on the frequency range, flexibility of capabilities (ie VTF) and by all accounts in overall capabilities. So just curious if you feel that the HSU is worth the extra $217 (shipping fee included) over this RSL Speedwoofer 10s? For the record I do have a very large room (ie 31 feet x 18 feet with 11 foot high vaulted ceilings) and I will have to settle for just one sub at this point (I simply don't even have the budget for dual RSLs at this point).
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately, we haven't had a chance to listen to any HSU subwoofer - but judging by the specs & what we've seen on the internet about the VTF2-MK5, it'd probably have more output. The RSL Speedwoofer is an amazing sub for the money - but in the end, we recommend that you get your hands on both if you can. RSL offers an in-home trial period, but it doesn't look like HSU offers a similar program so you might have to go through a retailer to try them both yourself. Hope this helps!
Both are great subs and I was in your predicament 6 months ago. Remember even though they are both powered by 350 watt amps the VTF2-MK5 has a 12" driver. Also on the VTF2-MK5 you can run it with both ports open, one plugged, or both plugged. On the other hand the RSL Speedwoofer takes up less room and is a bit more flexible when it comes to placement especially if you use the wireless transmitter.
This may seem like an odd choice stop, but trying to decide between a single SVS PB1000 or possibly doing two Speedwoofers. A second PB would just not go in the space I have an the RSL looks a little more compact. Using almost exclusively for home theater, so that is where I wonder on the PB.
Thanks for watching! We always recommend going with two subwoofers - and we especially think that in your scenario, two Speedwoofers would be a great fit. Unfortunately we can't speak for the performance of the PB-1000 since we haven't reviewed one yet, but for the price, we don't think you could go wrong with two of these!
I've heard both. I would choose 2 Speedwoofers, no question. Yes the PB1000 does hit deeper. But flabbier & less articulate. And 2 subs really does even out the nulls in the room, for an overall much better experience.
Thoughts on the RSL vs omnipresent PB-1000? The SVS goes a little deeper, but perhaps the RSL is more linear? Trying to decide between the two, and might be able to swallow the jump to 2 speed woofers.
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately we haven't been able to review the PB-1000. Even if it is a bit of a hassle, we would actually recommend buying one of each and taking advantage of their in-home trial periods so you can compare them side-by-side in your room. Right now we're reviewing the SB-1000, and in our living room, which is 20ft x 15ft with 10ft ceilings, it doesn't have as much output as the Speedwoofer 10S, but we feel that it has a much tighter and more responsive sound that we like a little better. Of course, the SVS options are going to be a little more expensive.
Anybody have a sub-woofer that produces a low frequency quiet hum?. It is not the sub-woofer itself (I don't think). I can leave it plugged in and powered on and there will be NO HUM if I disconnect the inter-connect cables that are plugged from my sub to my AMP. Can the AMP itself cause a ground loop? I heard a "Isolation Transformer/Ground Loop Hum Eliminator" might help? Any suggestions? I like to listen to Jazz a lot and that music can be dynamic. Even though the hum is not very loud - During quiet passages in Jazz the noise can be very noticeable. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Hey Matt - thanks for watching! Unfortunately RSL didn't provide a wireless adapter so we didn't get a chance to test it this time around, but we might try in the future. For the price we feel like it's really an amazing option though! 😀
Thanks for watching! The Micros are great if you have very limited space, but with bigger drivers and bigger cabinets, you'll definitely get a better experience. Two of the Speedwoofers would certainly have more output than the 3000 Micro. Hope this helps :)
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately we haven't had a chance to listen to the new 1000 Pro series, but here's a link to our review of the SB-1000; ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l4L7WIwOJtY.html and personally, we actually preferred it over the RSL! The Speedwoofer will certainly have more output, but the SB-1000 overall had a cleaner and tighter sound. Hope this helps!
I purchased the Speedwoofer 10s along with the SVS PB1000, I ended up keeping the SVS and purchased a second one, and have been using them for almost 3 years, the SVS plays deeper and louder, while the 10s has a slightly cleaner sound making it great for music, but for $100 more the SVS was definitely the better value for overall performance, but now that the PB1000 Pros are out, I will be purchasing them as well, possibly be using both the PB1000'S and the PB1000 Pros,( four subs total) ultimate bass output to say the least
Thanks for watching! We haven't had the opportunity to do a side-by-side comparison, but this RSL sub is awesome - and according to other reviews, it tends to perform better than many subs in its price range thanks to RSL's Compression Guide technology.
