Nice review Cam, thorough as always. You have to give the people what they want - it's a volunteer kinda of thing. I think ultrasonic cleaners are amazing and a huge time saver. Looks like you'll be putting the Vevor through it's paces. That was a nice thing for them to do and you will definitely help with their marketing. All the best Cam!

Thanks Bob - still have a laundry list of things to try cleaning with it so it's definitely going to get a workout.

Laser Claning! By far the best solution for such parts. Solves all the problems that you mentioned! ...speaking out of experience after 2 years of laser cleaning. Professionally.

How do you clean things like carbs with so many internal pathways that light can't reach?
@2000jago
@2000jago 4 месяца назад
@@TheBuildRoom You can't, Laser Cleaning has it's place (brake disks being my favorite) but totally useless technology for cleaning carb internals. Someone just wanted to sound clever by referencing it as an alternative to ultrasonic cleaning - which it isn't.

FOR BEST RESULTS *** DO NOT LET THE BASKET OR PARTS TOUCH THE BOTTOM OR SIDES . If you suspend them in the tank you get much better results. Imagine a tuning fork, if you restrict the movement it won’t vibrate properly .

Ay mate, you need to remove the bluish colored plastic sheet from the top of the cleaner's lid! Prevents scratching of lid during shipping.👍

Lol - yeah did that after the video - if you sneak a peak at the thumbnail for the vid it was gone, just wanted to ensure i didn't scratch it up first time out.

Standard simple green will damage SOME aluminum alloys, which is why it is not recommended for aluminum. Simple green makes an aluminum specific simple green for aircraft’s. IME, cast aluminum is more susceptible as well. It looks like you have damaged the surface film of the aluminum in the simple green solution, which is why it didn’t come out as ‘clean’ looking as you wanted. The corrosion resistance of aluminum relies on the inactivity of this surface film of aluminum or hydrated oxide. It’s when this surface film dissolves that corrosion occurs; when the film suffers localized damage and self-healing cannot occur, localized corrosion follows. This surface film is generally stable in a pH range of about 4.5 to 8. The film can stay stable in other cases depending on the environment, for example, nitric acid at pH 0, glacial acetic acid at pH3, or ammonium hydroxide at pH 13. The oxide film can be dissolved in most strong acids and bases, in which case the corrosion of the aluminum will be rapid.

Running the cleaner heats the water up

Yes have noticed that in subsequent uses and now just have it run straight up and leave it on a little longer for the first cycle.

One should avoid the use of any alkaline (caustic) cleaner on aluminum. I have used Citranox detergent with excellent results. It is a corrosion inhibited citric acid cleaner.

Hey mate, did you pull the gaskets from the carbys before cleaning them?
@TheBuildRoom
@TheBuildRoom 9 месяцев назад
Yeah I did, although i would tend to pull them and put the parts in separately for future cars, this was just a test. For something like a lawnmower or scooter carb i'd just send it, but you'd really want to wash out all the much that gets loosened on a proper carb so might as well just disassemble to start.

Hi. I'm on the edge of ordering a Vevor Ultrasonic 30 litre cleaner. I had anticipated using a degreaser in it for car and machine parts (I'm in food machinery engineering) so I was interested in you trying the different liquids. I was dubious about water on its own for greasy parts. I wondered if dishwasher powder might be better than dishwashing liquid? I realise it might be necessary to premix it, but I also wondered if it had more grease shifting power than a dishwashing liquid used by hand in a sink? It would be interesting to know if you ran another test on best cleaners to use.
@jamiebuckley1769
@jamiebuckley1769 6 месяцев назад
yes i saw a video on the gye using cascade dishwashing pods on pistons and it even took off the heavy carbon on the pistons.he tried about 7 or 8 different cleaners and degreasers and cascade pods came in second and top pick was ZEP 505 DEGREASER im going out to bye the dishwasher pods tomorrow fo my new 10 liter amazon ultasonic cleaner.
@TheBuildRoom
@TheBuildRoom 5 месяцев назад
From what I've heard you have to be careful with pods, especially on aluminium as they can have a serious staining on the surface. When it comes to steel however you can be a bit more intense.

@@fredriknordin2631Ahh OK - I'm not a solex guy so wasn't aware of the t-type. (Have had webers on all my other cars) I haven't sourced parts for these at all yet - I've heard there are some good guys that do rebuilds in the Eastern States of Australia, but just haven't gotten into it yet. Within Australia, the toymods forum would be a good place to ask, or 1st Gen Celica forums in the US.

The worst thing about Vevor cleaners is most of them only have one transducer! Any unit, 6 liter and over, need at least 4 transducers to do a good job. In fact, most other name brands DO have 4 transducers (with the exception of some cheap Chinesium knock-offs). A 30 liter or larger should have 6 transducers.
@TheBuildRoom
@TheBuildRoom 6 месяцев назад
Interesting - any recommendations for people watching on a budget unit with enough transducers to have an impact?

@@justinsherman9018 I did not say they all had 1 transducer. I said most of them ony have 1. Their website does not say exactly for their low-end 30L. It shows only 1 in the picture however. If it had more, you can bet the marketing folks would push that in the description! 10 would make it sell!
