What’s killing Minecraft is Mojang, all the new rules and censorship being enforced by Microsoft, deleting old accounts, banning certain servers and mods, they’re burning the whole thing to the ground right now, they’re even making it harder to go back and play older versions of the game now because they “don’t have the important safety features” so it feels like I can’t even go back and play the game I bought 12 years ago
@@igorfire13 I mean it’s Mojang making the changes, but it’s Microsoft that’s enforcing all the safety features and censorship. And yeah I am nostalgic, that’s the only reason a lot of older fans still play Minecraft, but they’re taking away from what made Minecraft feel so special, a simple game with no rules where you can do anything you want, but nowadays they fill it with pointless stuff and censor your freedom of speech and won’t allow you to use certain mods even though they’re made by a third party and they shouldn’t be able to get in any trouble for them, Microsoft is too worried about kids parent’s opinions and not about the actual players of the game, a large majority of which have grown up playing the game and are now old enough to make legal decisions for themselves

1:27 The only reason the phantom turned out as a "mistake" is because of the way mojang implemented them, the phantom would be far less annoying if Mojang did the bare minimum and made them require light level 0 to spawn above a block and even so, much more could've been done to make the phantom an actual mob and not a random annoyance.
I do kinda like it cause it does force us to sleep and it makes me feel more immersed just a little bit. I mean I for sure do miss not having to go to sleep and just exploring.

The problem is the Minecraft community doesn't really understand how these mob votes work. You're not voting on one of three cool things to add, you're voting on one of three binned ideas Mojang has already tossed out, but they're giving the community the ability to save one of them. If it was an unquestionably good idea, Mojang would add it anyway. For instance, there is zero chance that if glow squids didn't win, that glowing signs wouldn't have been added anyway. Simply look at how the freeze effect was still added to the game, despite the mob that would have inflicted cold damage on the player losing the vote. So, the mob vote is asking you to save one of three bad ideas, not giving you the option to get one of three great ideas. And therefore, Mojang doesn't want to give you three. They'd rather give you zero. They don't want to add any of them, especially over time.
@@EvilParagon4that's cool and all but something you're missing is how useless and trash all the mobs are so instead of something fun and cute like the copper golem we got the allay which is useless
The mob votes were a terrible idea. Did they really think that people would all be happy if they didnt get their option? There will always be upset players because of the votes
The iceollager had already been in Minecraft dungeons for a while before the mob vote and was a pretty disliked mob like the phantom, a lot of dungeons players didn't vote for it because of that reason
@@ahaokatano3153It all depends on implementation. For all we know, we dodged a bullet by getting the glowsquid and the Iceolger would've just made mountains a pain.
Correction: The part where Jesse, Petra, Lukas and Ivor trying to get back home wasn't in Season 2. Half of Season 1 was defeating the witherstorm and the second half was the same part you talked about. Season 2 was actually about trying to defeat the Admin aka Romeo.
Yeah, as a big fan of MCSM, that annoyed me so much, as well as the part where he said that Telltale never made profit from it. They _did;_ in fact, it was the only game since TWD that made any profit. A LOT MORE PEOPLE ARE SMARTER THAN ME, SO I NEED THIS TO BE SEEN. The mob in the game files is the Illusioner, not the Iceologer. I was wrong! My point still stands though, because the other options are terrible.. Also, yes, I did forget to talk about Hermit Craft, that's my bad. AND BRAZILIANS WERE ADDED TO THE QSMP, NOT PORTUGUESES.
4:50 A good idea would be bringing old vote mobs as an option in new polls. This would allow everyone to actually prioritise the best option possible and use some of the more underwhelming polls to bring previous second fave options.
No no no mob votes shouldn't even exist just let mojang decide the mobs they want to add at best the polls should be about whether you like the mob/mobs or not after Playing with them for a few weeks
@@idkmyname5893 They already are picking the mobs. I still think the idea of mob votes is fun. It engages the community and brings traffic to the game and to specific update. What I am saying is that - as they clearly are not stopping the idea, there could be ways to make it more engaging and actually matter. They are already picking the mobs and creating the features for specific ones. Having whole roster available would actually give us a better illusion of a choice and it would mean they would stop giving us sub-fun options, like for example Tuff Golem. You are proposing expanded input from the community, which isn't the worst idea - but it's kinda already a thing with the unfinished releases of the updates. With players giving their opinions through official channels (like previously Minecraft Reddit).
Yes, or just.. interact with the community. Maybe one year make a contest where people have to program a mob that didn't win from the mob votes, explain features etc and upload it as video, then submit it in a form with the link for the public to review, etc. Diverse ways a mob can be used will be explained and presented, and it would be an amazing way to connect with the community and get everyone talking and debating.

Just a small thing to point out, the illager mob you referred isn’t the Iceologer, it’s a different mob called the Illusioner that’s been in the game files since 2017.
It’s weird it’s an almost fully functional mob. And it isn’t even in the game. If mojang actually put work into it. The Illusioner would be a great addition to the Illager army.
@@drxtale9446 One of the devs said back at Minecon 2019 that they were planning on fully implementing the Illusioner into the game and adding them to raids, but we haven’t heard anything about that since then. I’m hoping this next update they finally get fully added.
It’s so strange hearing these things because I’ve played exclusively modded Minecraft, that I had to pause for a moment when you said the illusioner was just in game files. It really is wild how far the modding community has surpassed the actual developers.
One problem with Minecraft (Survival Mode) is it's progression system. Mods like Maljusz's progressive difficulty ,which makes mobs harder after entering the Nether, and again after entering the End are a good fix at least for single player. Another problem is more general, and that's the fanbase is split and the more mob and biome votes that are done the more split it becomes. Mojang should focus on improving existing items, and making the game possible to run without mods. Other things they could do is make more mob variants, and incorporate things they promised to add but haven't. A full update that addresses the community's biggest problems would if done well bring old players back, and hopefully entice new players.
True but is it really better that no one gets input into what mob gets added to Minecraft? I thought most people were happy with the Sniffer. I voted Tuff Golem but I'm still not disappointed with the Sniffer.

I was obsessed with minecraft dungeons. I played for at least a few months and returned multiple times. I played the entire game with my brother the day it came out, and I cherish that memory. However. I look back on what the game really was, and I just feel dissapointed. So many people, myself included, have wanted more rpg elements in minecraft and that's basically what dungeons was. Tangible enchantments, numerous weapons that allow for countless approaches to combat. It had so many features I wanted in the real minecraft, but it missed the crucial detail of being like minecraft. Sure, there's creepers and dirt blocks, but that's basically where the similarities end. Zero mining, zero crafting, just grinding. But it's spinoff, what more could you expect? Hmm, game balance, maybe. At launch, fighters bindings with radiance made you unkillable, anything less than that and the game was a slog to play through (it didn't help that fighter's bindings were one of the most unfun items to grind for). Apocalypse+ was a total joke when it released, to even beat the mid level difficulties you need a slow gimmick build, and had to inch through levels one enemy at a time. The pickaxe meta, whirlwind meta, tempest knife meta (a paid dlc only item) you can't expect every option to be viable, but to have a fun experience you had to pick certain weapons. The camp merchants were practically useless at launch, but they only got upgraded to be useful after the majority of players wrote the game off. The tower was dissapointing, it didn't even have multiplayer at launch in a game that heavily incentivizes playing with friends. Minecraft dungeons was a huge missed opportunity, to this day I pray they will add just a weapon or a mob to the real minecraft, but I don't think they plan on utilizing their troves of premade content anytime soon.
I never played Story Mode or Earth, and I heard Legends is bad so I haven’t bought it, but I played Minecraft Dungeons, and wow. It’s honestly amazing. A dungeon crawler spin-off of Minecraft was a greta idea and was executed really well, especially its multiplayer factor. Great game overall
STORY MODE IS SO GOOD! I watched and played it when it came out and it still holds up honestly. both games. deffo recommend it if you can get your hands on it.
My biggest issue with Minecraft now days isnt with the game itself. Its more with decisions Mojang/Microsoft have made for the community. Chat reporting, EULA changes. Forgetting the game has a wide audience of different ages and intrests. I mostly trust mojang with the game, but I dont trust them at all with the community.
This video has almost nothing to do with Minecraft getting better or worse. This is just you rambling for 20 minutes about spin-offs and your nostalgia.
Nice to see someone else who's minecraft nastolgia comes mostly from Story Mode and DanTDM/Thinknoodles/Thnxcya Crazy Craft. I hope one day we get a season 3.
Unfortunately it's most likely never gonna get a season 3 but if it did, I'd like to see dimensions break down and jesse and his gang try figuring out why
Glow squids not being able to emit light like a torch really sucks. Just imagine how cool it would look if you had an aquarium with them. They would've made for awesome decor, providing an unusual yet unique option for builders to include in their builds. And just imagine seeing small glow squid ponds in the deep dark. I don't think it would be a stretch to have a pretty, yet rare light source down there. What a waste of what could've been so cool.
I recently found a copy of Minecraft Story Mode Season 2 for my Nintendo Switch hiding in the back of my draw, I’m replaying it and I’m crying of nostalgia.
I started playing Minecraft in 2019 on my PS4, when "Minecraft PS4 Edition" was a thing. I still play it and enjoy it to this day and I hope it will stay so.
Minecraft will always be my favorite game, even though I miss the old versions, I need to face the truth,I also love the new updates, and without them minecraft would probably die fast right now, and without the mob vote there will be no drama (I found out that when a community doesn't have a drama going on, it's gonna die fast or at least a couple of months, I still think that the minecraft creators just loves to see chaos tbh ) sorry if my English is bad lol
I've just recently started playing Dungeons again... After over a year Also I ❤ MCSM, mostly for nostalgia but there were some really good concepts and plot-twists and the 2nd season had some seriously good story-telling.
I think that as long as the current and new content creators keep up their amazing work, minecraft wont die. Minecraft is currently relevant only because of its content creators
I was really hoping you'd talk about the lack of focus on the survival aspect of the game with new updates. I miss the old Minecraft, when nights were scary. I can't stand playing survival and seeing villages and structures everywhere that make it too easy to survive. I had a moment yesterday where I learned that world generation is partly based on temperature, and thought how much of a missed opportunity it is to have temperature coded into the game that has NO effect on gameplay/survival. It only determines what types of biome generate in the area. But hey, we have armor trim and clay pots and... sniffers. Minecraft has been taking a nosedive since Beta 1.7 IMO.
Warden being as it is is good. Imagine just storming him and killing and then freely roaming around looting ancient city while now you have to be sneaky, so the "mini-game" is very intense and interacting
But... you can't kill it easily? And multiple wardens can spawn so you can't just roam around? Minecraft is a sandbox game, meaning that the possibilities should be limitless. Players will try to kill the warden, and it's difficult so they should get a reward.
the devs making the phantom and refusing to redo it, was their own mistake 1. there wasnt much information (as you say here 0:42) 2. they attack too quickly/frequently 3. they have basically zero alternative use, because its main drop doesnt really do much, when people just use mending 4. the durability system of the elytra being so poor in order to make the drop useful, was the elytra's main issue after the fact that they made it so you could fly nearly indefinitely when you use fireworks
"Is Minecraft getting worse" >1.9 combat update >Mojang sold and is now owned by a massive corporation >Updates take 1 year to release despite containing small amount of content >Mob votes >Mob votes being rigged (i.e the Sniffer) >Chat reporting implementation for Java >Removing/excluding features for bullshit reasons (i.e Sharks not being added because they have a negative stigma around them being man eaters and fireflies being removed because they can harm frogs despite them keeping in the feature to KILL parrots with cookies) >1.21 adding more stuff to actively not use besides the automated crafter >Mojang putting more effort into spin-off games than the main game >Ancient cities and Archaeology sites being added that provide the player with loot that is not useful >The list goes on Yeah I'd say Minecraft is getting worse. Part of it is on Microsoft but a majority of it is on Mojang.
this video is really well done and has good editing, in my personal opinion the main problem with minecraft atm is the updates i feel are lacking, like with the 1.20 features the only ones that i’ve even used were the new wood types i would love a end update like they did with the nether
I remember watching Minecraft story mode on netflix all the time with my friends and family and it’s so nostalgic, and when I was starting to play Minecraft (2016) I always made creepers explode and then trap other hostile mobs there and thought it woould help🥹🥹🥹
I would've wanted Sniffer anyway but it's a bit too hard to find, it's annoying. I'd go for Tuff golem instead but I also fear how they'd screw up the golems so it's probably better in my opinion left to people who will make mods for it out of love. [usually having more features, more fair, maybe less or just a helpful addon unlike most.]
Spin-off expert here. Minecraft Earth devs had a great idea how to make the game playable during pandemic. But again, good idea, bad execution. Minecraft Dungeons - I disagree. You have many different ways and builds you can play with. Some would choose melee taking, other summoning pets, other ranged build. Minecraft Legends - It's not even RPG, never was supposed to be. It's an action strategy.
the mob vote was bad now the java chat report feature is just the final nail in the coffin for a game we once loved but at the end of the day minecraft is still minecraft and it will still hold a special place in our heart and at the core the game is still the same game where we built are first house tamed our first wolf beat up a mob and barley escaped with your life that is the beauty of minecraft never knowing what adventures will come next not knowing if a creeper will creep up on you whether or not knowing if you have enough materials to build your base. I once heard someone say minecraft is not about what you have built it's what you can build.
The 2021 vote was so dumb, because all the mobs there should have been added. Hell, all the mob votes are dumb. It’s basically a way for mojang to put less effort into making new mobs. They think of a lot of different mobs, then only add one and then have a get out of jail free card in the “you guys voted for it” bullshit.
2:47 the mob you're talking about is "Illusioner" and it's been in the game since 1.12 (i think) and has NOTHING to do with iceologer they're different entities and do completely different things Illusioner summons decoys of himself, blinds the player and uses a bow as it's main weapon and it's in the actual game
Mojang's decision to focus a bit more on updating the already existing features is nice because it keeps the old stuff "afloat" and more up to date, making it more interesting to interact with. I really hope that they'll start adding the rejected mobs from mob vote (although I voted for Sniffer I think Rascal is an interesting mob that I want to see being added to the game in the near future) and actually do something with the already existing inaccessible mobs like illusioner and zombie horse.
I will always remember waking up on a Saturday morning, going to the kitchen to grab brown sugar cinnamon pop tarts. Then getting on RU-vid to watch The Atlantic Craft Jurassic Craft series. I always loved watching Cody and Joe get into some outlandish situations while trying to deal with dinosaurs in minecraft. That will always be one of the times I loved best about minecraft. maybe I don't watch Atlantic craft as much anymore but I have that jurassic craft playlist saved to my playlists whenever I feel like rewatching.
the information at 2:51 is straight up wrong. the illager that can be summoned in is the illusioner, a completely different mob. the iceologer was never developed outside of minecraft dungeons
Great video explaining why people played in the past or are playing, not only talking about the nostalgia aspect but concluding with the new trends. The length is short and the subject is well explained !❤❤
Minecraft Story Mode, so nostalgic, I miss it so much. 😢 Tbh, Minecraft isn’t the same to me anymore, not just because of the mob vote, but I personally don’t really like how much has changed and the things they replaced. I know things can’t stay the same forever, but I just don’t feel like playing it anymore and miss the way Minecraft used to be.
I remember when I bought the 2 seasons of Minecraft Story Mode and I really enjoyed playing them and I couldn't wait what Season 3 could have been but I was like shattered because of Telltale Games completly shutting down
The end got me. To the point I completely ignored whatever I'm doing. I can't sleep unless I get this out. The near ending when he explains everything... it's like, listening to some sort of musical masterpiece. Or some motivational thing that I'd actually give a damn about. The way he explains it. The way the music kicking in. The way all the emotions come flooding. The memories. It's just like... bliss. Until the video end and everything goes sad face emoji. I'm just typing random stuff that won't be seen...
Very well made video. I think it is less of Minecraft getting worse or Minecraft getting better and more of a transfer of style, size, and community from the earlier days to the modern era. As someone who has played Minecraft for the past 12 years, it is a wonderful game that I do love, but most of the content and gameplay options of the modern community aren't really too much to my liking, but that's just how these things happen. Games evolve, alongside their playerbase, and Minecraft is no different.
at this point I'm considering just acting like new updates are mediocre mods and Beta mods like Better Than Adventure are the real vanilla versions of the game
I think the problem with modern Minecraft is that it's very obvious that mojang has a clear vision of what they want to do with the game, and we can kinda see that with all the new features they add each update. The issue is that, well, MC isn't supposed to be like that. The game is meant to be very open ended, and you can sorta see that with the philosophy of older updates. Updates used to follow the rule of "hey, here's a new thing, go nuts with it", but modern updates are kinda the reverse, "hey, come check out this new thing, isn't it cool?" But there's not really any depth behind it to keep it continuously interesting, and worst of all, it's not connected to the rest of the game in any meaningful way, so ultimately nobody's really interested, and to a lot of people, maybe even the majority, in effect, nothing but a new advancement was added. Like let's look at 1.20. the cherry blossom biome is probably what most would consider a 'good' update, because we get a whole new set of blocks and decorations to play with however we please, but the sniffer and the archeology are really 'bad' updates, because the sniffer really has no purpose, along with the archeology as well. They're more things you can do as a part of a checklist for when you're bored, but they're not true game changers. And now nobody's happy.
@@igorfire13 I suppose you're somewhat right, but I've not really seen anyone actually _speak_ positively about modern versions. General opinions I've seen seem to be on the middling to negative side, and even people who have a positive outlook of modern versions are unhappy because mojang/microsoft keep sabotaging their own game, so I do think it is a fair statement to say that nobody's really 'happy' right now.
@@lotgc, out of million people that play Minecraft it is impossible to say 100% surely this is a rightful statement. Many people prefer playing minecraft privately with their own good or bad opinions... About sabotaging their own game.. Uhm, I think they're updating the game, that's what supposed to happen. They can't throw anything not thought out into the game, cause people will be even more angry about that. Unfortunately, not all understand this.
@@igorfire13 well you shouldn't take everything 100% literally, that's how you miss the point of everything. I'm not trying to say that everyone's unhappy, I'm trying to explain WHY people are unhappy. As for sabotage, I'm not talking about simply updating the game. Do you not know what mojang is doing with their ToS? They've basically given themselves the absolute right to shutdown anything they don't like, whenever they like, without question. It's really scummy.
I started watching minecraft around 2015 it wasnt until 2016 when i tried it, i was pretty bad but i slowly grew to be average. i always thought of the game showing me how far it has come, but it was showing me how far i came.
The mob vote is cool on paper, but can't work no matter what they do. Minecraft's main audience is kids, therefore they're not gonna vote for the most useful and creative mob, they're gonna vote for the cutest mob. Also with the updates, stuff in the Wild Update and Trails and Tales Update were cool features, but not worth waiting a damn year for. In the span of a year we got the Nether Update, and in that same span of time we got the Wild Update, and people still believe wanting more from updates is unrealistic? Updates also don't feel inspired and just feel lazy. Look at the amount of inspiration that went into stuff like Village and Pillage and the Nether Update, they challenged themselves and added cool and unique things. The past 2 updates have just been the damn mob vote, new biome, some blocks, and a feature that they promised 3 years ago. Doesn't feel like they try anymore, just feels like they go, "oop time for a new update, quick think of 3 useless mobs and a biome we can add with some new wood!" Its honestly just sad.
You cant always make everyone happy but sadly its always the bad things among the so many good ones that gets talked about. Think about how many good things that were added instead or think about what we could do to improve ”bad” features.
I'm gonna say something controversial: ever since 2013 people have been saying that such and such thing is the "end," of Minecraft. The mob vote won't end Minecraft. Jens taking over, Notch leaving, moving from just PC, moving from Java, getting rid of Minecarts with Furnaces, none of those ended Minecraft. Things will be okay. I've been playing this game for 10 years now and I don't think this game will ever just vanish from the libraries of gamers the world over.
Watching this video I so surprised to realize It didn’t even have 1000 views. It definitely deserves more. This is really high quality. Keep up the good work👍
I got mixed feelings on the mob vote. I do think it's nice to have some input on what mobs get added into the game. I think the Sniffer, for example, is pretty cool. Sure, it's kind of biased but as long as the mobs are decent, I'm happy. As far as the Warden goes, there are rewards. They are rewards for sneaking passed the Warden. So I don't see why you'd need another reward for killing the Warden. That's not the intended purpose of the Warden. It's just a feature that happened as a result of community demand.
Saying stuff like the downfall of Minecraft is the biggest joke on the internet. Minecraft is one of the few select properties that just cannot die on principle. Sure it may lose a lot of it's luster and general appeal but it will always remain on top and the core fun of it is always going to be there.
I’m still mad at Minecraft Story mode. I paid money for those games and since I never downloaded the episodes I bought (I deleted the app) So my money is gone and I can’t replay it. Literally my money got stolen because I bought it Thats like minecraft just banning players because they ent broke
People being mad that there wasn't alot of info about the phantom is so funny because like, that's most of the game, minecraft doesn't tell you Jack, and let's you find out for yourself, be told by a friend or something or confront the wiki, minecraft hasn't had a tutorial in forever, and phantoms just showing up is surprisingly in the spirit of the game
2:50 Video was good overall, (nice narration kept me interested from start to finish) but there needs to be more quality control the next time focused on fact checking here.
Hey as long as you can get on a new single player world and you can have fun, then the game is still good for you, and yes even if you loose all your stuff in lava.
The Warden being added is one of my favorite things about Minecraft. Once you get far enough in the game, you get all kinds of powerful weapons and armor that pretty much makes you undefeatable. In a sense, the Warden reintroduces that feeling of vulnerability that you experience similar to when you start a new world and have nothing. You don't know if you turn a corner and you'll die from a Creeper or get pelted by a Skeleton. For the Warden, no matter how prepared you think you are, there's a good chance you won't survive if you encounter it. I like that it isn't a "boss" mob and it's meant to be avoided. It makes going into the caves more fun and exciting! Also, I really miss MC Story Mode as well. I never got to see the second season to it the full way through. Edit: To add, this is a really good Minecraft video! You did a good job of explaining everything for how it is. It really opened my eyes to how much the franchise has been through and how much has changed. I love all the new updates and content! I got into Minecraft around the end of 1.16 and I don't think I could ever stop playing it.
@@megadustone I believe Mojang said the only reason for that was to take away the incentive for players to fight it. Unique loot or even a good chunk of XP would make players want to try to take it out. Guess Mojang really didn't want it to be fought lol. Even the XP of the Catalyst was reduced. Me personally, I'm fine with it. (I still believe there is a possibility for a Sculk Dimension, perhaps with its own bosses)
It just doesn’t feel like minecraft anymore. I can’t really explain it, but a lot of these updates feel out of place. Like less is more. I know every game needs updates, but minecraft doesn’t feel like minecraft to me in the way that fortnite doesn’t feel like fortnite anymore.
An idea for the mob vote could be instead of choosing one mob to be added. They could have the one picked be eliminated and the other two added. I know people say “add all three” but that’s months of work (coding isn’t as easy as it seems) and then more months to add it to bedrock edition.
i think the minecraft lore is just a marketing practice to get more community interactions also, the allay was the best choice, copper golem is worthless, randomizers already exist.
I remember the first time i ever played Minecraft. I think it was like, 2016/2015 Somewhere around when Minecraft was more simple. I remember playing in 4 player and it was fun. I played it in 4 player a few months ago and it was still the same. Me personally, i would still play Minecraft even if none else did edit: i just realized i got into Minecraft the exact same way you got into Minecraft. My brother got me into it, i would only play creative mode making random things and messing around.
Feels like Microsoft are too busy trying to franchise the minecraft name. I love minecraft. I haven’t properly played in many years but I’m sure it’s still a great game but from what I’ve seen, it’s losing its charm. that being it’s simplicity. I don’t know anything about these shulker chests, flying wings, end castles etc. But I’ve always begged the question of why these needed to be added? Imagination stems from simplicity. Now there’s a block for everything, a mob for everything, an item for everything. The beauty of minecraft was its simplicity, with that simplicity comes imagination. That is what minecraft is. It’s what it should always be. If you were bored of vanilla then you’d download a mod! Enter: Tekkit. An expansion mod more inspired by real world applications like machines, expanded resources like gems and copper, environments like oil spills etc. why is this fine? Because it’s external. The base game is preserved and it’s core gameplay is uncompromised.
Bro had no point with that music disc thing, 11 has been in the game for an extremely long time, it doesn't "devalue" the process of obtaining the discs
...the moment you start talking about story mode,i started crying...why?When Minecraft story mode had its first episode for free afterwards i went to youtubers and saw the rest...but now...i wish i had money back then as a child to buy the rest and help telltale...but no kid could save an entire company...so i just remember those cherished moments ;v;
I mean other than those weird privacy changes, minecraft isn’t getting WORSE. I still enjoy the new updates even if they aren’t as good as the old ones. And the caves are awesome now. Still I hate mob votes, everyone gets mad and no one is satisfied.
I don’t know, but that last part almost made me CRY. Minecraft was also something my brother showed me, and your story reminded me so much of those moments. What a fantastic game
I'm okay with how minecraft is changing. I grew up on the old minecraft pocket edition when I was 12 and was forced to play survivalcraft just to get more features. The game has always been a multiplayer experience since I played with my brother and cousins. Eventually I grew up and didn't have time to play for 10 hours straight a day anymore, but my younger brother did get to enjoy minecraft bedrock as soon as it rolled out. It was during the pandemic that we both finally got to go back to minecraft, after almost a decade of playing it on and off again and just living vicariously through lets plays and my brother. Since then, every update was exciting. We loved the new features and the sense of adventure. We didn't like creepy minecraft. Now when I play the game on my own, I treat like any other cozy game (think stardew valley or animal crossing). I love how minecraft is so alive now. Besides, if I really want to create that nostalgic experience, I can always just load up an older version. I thing mojang is being super careful with their updates, and what really matters to me is that the community exists and that we have so many possibilities in this sandbox of a world.
15:32 yeaaa... I myself am a "Survival Builder" and sometimes am a "Creative Builder" type of player. When I play Minecraft, I seek to build in a particular Style of building. FOr instance "Today, I want to build my Travian Roman Village from a year ago". I grind (or cheat) the resources and start re-enacting that style of building.
Microsoft thought buying Minecraft would be like any other game, where it's all about the IP. But no one cares about the IP, they care about the game of Minecraft. And if you take that IP and make a completely different game that has nothing else in common, no one bats an eye. Slapping the Minecraft name on it means nothing if you can't even mine or craft.
I bought Minecraft Dungeons early on. While it was kinda fun, it didn't really compare to older titles in the Diablo-like subgenre. Diablo 2, and even Torchlight had more build variety, allowing the games to last far longer than Minecraft Dungeons. Also doesn't help that with how the game was built, end game was slogging away at tanky enemies for marginally better loot.
