Is This the Greatest Budweiser Shootout EVER?

The Budweiser Shootout, aka the Busch Clash, has traditionally been the exhibition race that has opened the NASCAR season at the Daytona International Speedway every year. But to me there was no year better objectively than 2012. The 2012 Budweiser Shootout had just about everything that any NASCAR fan could want. It had true parity, pick racing, memorable wrecks, great saves, and a photo finish. For those who liked it there was even tandem drafting sprinkled into the race. But a description can only do so much justice for a race before you have to see it. In this video we ask, “Is this the greatest Budweiser Shootout ever?”

Love him or hate him, Kyle Busch is the goat of "can he save it". Just imagine the insane car control it takes to slide at 200mph and constantly switching between 31° and 0° of banking.

Kyle probably most consistent at doing it but the greatest save i've ever seen was Johnson at Dover in qualifying. That was legitimately one of the craziest things i've ever seen someone do in a car.

Dude that might be the best NASCAR performance ever. I mean Kyle Busch’s drive. Seriously. Saved it twice, two times. And those last two laps, that’s legend level performance. Great video. He deserved that one.

This was the beginning of one of the greatest, historical, and at times, hysterical Daytona Speedweeks ever. It ended on Monday after Montoya hit the Jet dryer, Keslowski tweeted from his car, and the drivers made mad dashes to the Portapotty on the backstretch. Oh, and Matt Kenseth won.

The 1992 Winston has a strong argument for best exhibition race ever imo. I started watching in 96 but that race is just insanely good with a little bit of everything. Definitely worth looking up for anyone who hasn't seen it

In my opinion, I would have to agree with you. This was the first NASCAR race I went to where my favorite driver won, which was Kyle Busch. When I saw the replay ans saw Kyle edge Tony I lost my lug nuts and 5 year old me was going crazy. Aside from that, it was a good race.

To put into perspective my feelings on the 2012 Clash, I've been watching NASCAR, full time and every race, since 2002. This is the only Clash I have any memory of, let alone tons of memories of how I felt during exact moments of it. A bad race doesn't instill that in you. This one was a banger

I absolutely agree that this was my favorite exhibition race. I became a nascar fan in 2011, so I was used to seeing tandem drafting at the restrictor plate tracks. So when I saw the aggressive pack racing for the first time, I was hooked immediately. I actually remember screaming at the TV when Jeff Gordon flipped over (he was my favorite driver at the time), and that finish was awesome too.

I miss when the Bud Shootout/Busch Clash used to be like this. A Saturday night display of all the new schemes with a lot of hype surrounding it and good racing going on. This race lost a lot of lustre when they moved it to Sunday afternoon and especially when it moved away from FOX and on to FS1.

Can't wait till he reaches 4 titles just to see the fanbase "happy" since toyota and ford "cheat" in their minds. @@sumyungguy347 Martin Truex Jr, Kyle Busch, Ryan Blaney, Brad Keselowski, William Byron, Matt DiBenedetto and Kevin Harvick are all good at road courses too. Plus, every road course is very different, so you can't say he will win all because that's a gross oversimplification of all road courses and a gross underestimating of the talents of the drivers mentioned above

One of the greatest races in NASCAR History period. This race had it all. The pack racing was insane, the wrecks were wild, Kyle Busch wrecked twice, had an epic save, plus the photo finish was a great capper to it.

Hard to argue against it. If you want a race with less crashing though, I would say the 2001 Budweiser Shootout was extremely entertaining for the racing aspect.

You were one year later than me in terms of coming into the sport as mine was 2004 with the Daytona 500. I chose Jeff Gordon as my favorite driver at Pocono and never regretted it.

Not as good as the 2007 bud shootout but it’s very underrated. It had the perfect mix of pack racing and tandem racing. Come to think of it that whole speed weeks it was crazy you had this shoot out the nationwide series finish and then Montoya hitting the jet dryer in the 500

I remember watching the race live and being mad cause Tony got passed (im a Smoke fan) and it was incredible to see KB do what he did in that race. Should have been wrecked 3 different times but wasn't.
