Must buy! You've hit on a fairly unique way of reviewing the product and interviewing the designer at the same time (bowman, spatz). Well done, more like this as makes for really interesting videos

Just a general comment. Having lived in many countries, including the UK, In my opinion, most winter clothing solutions are very specific to where you ride. for instance, other (non-UK) places winter riding is normally a dry cold (near/sub-zero) conditions where the clothing needs are almost opposite to wet cold conditions, like insulation and breathability.

Nothing beats proper winter boots. I've got some Fizik Artica ones in the sale last summer and they're 100 times better than overshoes. No overshoe getting in the way of a cleat, super easy to clean and very warm.

Spend the extra and get the top end ones not the roadmans. Once they get very wet your feet WILL get cold when its near 0c. Coming from a roadman 2 owner. They are excellent in the dry or even just a little wet though, truly excellent product, in the dry they keep my legs and feet toasty.

David, great video with lots of detail. Having worn Spatz overshoes you covered all the points most folks should know about. One thing to consider about the waterproofing is that since you wear (like most people) your tights inside of the overshoes, you are more likely to get water ingress. Even though the Spatz overshoes have a great seal around the leg, as soon as you put material between your leg and the overshoe e.g. your tights or socks, then water can work it's way down the tights into your feet area. And as you said, it's when you get large amounts of rain versus riding through puddles, will you notice that ingress. I'd be curious to know if you tried wearing your tighs over the overshoes when it is raining or if you plan on doing it for a short video in the future??? Sure some cyclists might not like the asethetics of having tights over the overshoes, but if your feet stay dry then should they care. Keep the great content coming. Thanks.

I've found the ideal mix to be 3/4 bibs with them going over the top of the Spatz. Seems to stop the water ingress. Either that, or I ride with the tights over the top of the Spatz

When you put them on, fold down the sleeve to make it shorter and stronger (double layered). This makes it very easy to put them on and/or off. These overshoes are the best in the market. Also very good for MTBing

I'll keep my wintershoes, they have been waterproof even in downpours and standing in 20cm puddles and they last much longer!

Helpful overview of the Spatz, but I am still trying to discern whether these play well with offroad shoes. Especially in regards to the Spatz 'Gravl' model, it would be helpful if the company showed some images of that model paired with offroad shoes. Here in the States, it's not likely offroad riders will be sporting Speedplay cleats on road shoes.

Would you / could you double them up with a winter boot? I.e. would the neoprene stretch enough to go over the bulkier boots?

These looks great their website needs an faq with the differences between the roadman and the gravel for example. I am very tempted to pick up a pair but not sure of pros and cons. Get a pair of the gravels and review and let us all know!

Hi David idk if you'll respond to this but I'm just wondering your feelings on giant increasing their prices yet again??? The model you had I seem to remember being priced originally at around 3299 whereas its now jumped to 4200! I think this is a crazy price increase and it's really put me off. The Advanced Pro o was 4799 but now its 5199:(Really upset and wanted the bike

I saw that, tweeted about it actually. It’s a bit rubbish, but Giant isn’t alone, and it’s not just bike companies. There are some real challenges in the world right now with price increases at every step of the journey/process

These seem to be good for wet and not-so-cold conditions, British conditions perhaps. I get cold toes no matter what I try. I really need overshoes suitable for cold and dry conditions. Something windproof but breathable and with heavy insulation over the toes. Doesn't seem to exist. Waterproof neoprene doesn't work for me as I initially start sweating, and eventually I end up with cold toes.

I’ve never really understood the science behind cold feet whilst cycling. I can be sweating like a pig on my upper torso whilst working hard, but My feet freeze within 45 mins. I’ve tried everything, foil, thick socks, thin socks, vapour barriers using silk liners and plastic bags. I’ve worn warm Winter boots, 2 pairs of overshoes, compression socks and calves...... something tells my feet to reduce bloodlflow to my feet and thus they get cold. Also I can find my feet wet even if the roads are dry which tells me perspiration is a problem, I’ve tried medical grade anti perspiring too. 2 things I haven’t tried....Viagra( or any calcium channel blocker) which is supposed to help with vaso constriction (really). The other thing Is SPATZ. Which I an kind sceptical of due to perspiration.
@andycorso8498

@@craigherriot4026 yeah sometimes prescribed/recommended for Reynauds Syndrome, which is an extreme condition whereby blood vessels In the hands and feet constrict to an extreme.
@andycorso8498

@Robert Kavanagh thanks but as I said, my body can be producing a lot of perspiration, which means it’s trying to get rid of heat, but my feet are cold, so why would my Body reduce circulation to my feet?....... never had this been explained to me. Poor circulation is either constricted blood vessels or heart isn’t working well enough to move The blood round..... as for shoes, I’ve tried aluminium foil linings, loose bindings, covering all vent holes, thick socks, several layers of thin socks, more arch support in the insoles, metatarsal buttons, thicker insoles, thinner insoles, chemical warmers but yeah haven’t tried Spatz.......

I haven’t tried the Fizik Artica or any type of proper winter cycling shoe yet. However, I have tried the bag, 2 pairs of socks (thin liner sock underneath a thin wool sock), and an overshoe, but like yourself after 45-60 minutes, my toes get uncomfortably cold. I decided to try the Kobayashi Hothands toe warmers this winter and, for me, it has made all the difference. I let it heat up about 15 min prior and adhere it to the top of my 2 pairs of socks, proceed with my shoe and overshoe and I can be out comfortably for 2 hours in -10C. My winter cycling shoes are US 1/2 size larger than my normal cycling shoes. Its about US $1/pair/ride, but it’s been worth it. I don’t ride in the rain, so waterproofing is not a concern. Hope this helps.

Funny just brought them 10 days ago! Got the road man 2 as well. I suffer from poor circulation in my feet and hare having cold feet whilst cycling. They are good but still a little cold at -2 for me but definitely bearable. Unfortunately I slipped on some ice today and put a couple of holes on them so I’m not sure they are waterproof now. Gutted but that’s life.
