Mr. Bea(s)t here 🫡. Great you caught up to me because I was in no man’s land. Really helped me to gain back some motivation and take some rest in the wheels. I’m sure you’ll both qualify with a little less bad luck.

Hi, I am the guy in the green at 00:58 at your left and I finished 38th in Valkenburg. My tips are making up as much positions/time in the beginning of the race because afterwards it only becomes harder. I was fully à bloc in the first 30 minutes and then you have to look at groups you can try and follow for the rest of the race or the next few kms and then search another group if the pace is too high. I recommend for the nutrition that you take more carbs with you than you need in case something happens with losing a bidon like here. If it is possible you can also have someone handing you some bidons so you have a backup. Hope this helps and maybe I can see myself a bit longer in the vid of Aachen ;-)

That is an insanely well position to end. With your level of fitness that might work but I might need to train a bit more before pulling a all out TT to the front at the start of the race. May I ask how many hours you train per week? Good call for the nutrition. I will make sure to take some extra with me and I will also make sure to put the nutrition in the USWE hydration pack instead of in both of my bottles as the hydration pack is harder to lose :p I started around position 200 in Aachen so unless you started further back I'm afraid I haven't seen you. I will try to publish the race recon video within two weeks after each race, but you can watch the uncut version of the first 75km already on my channel ;)

@@FlyingGravelMan I ride between 12h and 15h per week on average and some weeks it is a bit more or less. I do a lot of cyclocross in the winter so I am used to going all out for an hour and trying to recover from it. The nutrition is something we all have to work on I guess because it is evenly important as your fitness in my opinion. I started a bit in front of you in Aachen so I think I am not going to be in the video 😅. Every rider needs to find his own way to start the race, it is a long race so most of the time you can also get some positions at the end of the race when you paced it better than the rest. Good luck with qualifying and believe in yourself 👊

Hey. :) #309 here in the red and black skinsuit :) I had a similar strategy to yours, get in to a decent position after the Cauberg and then see how the race develops. I did qualify for the WC, but had one of the best days on the bike ever, I'm not sure if I could replicate that. I think it's important to always leave a couple of efforts in your legs so that you can jump between groups. It's far more beneficial to find a group to ride a sustainable tempo with for longer than to have a really fast group you can hold on to for 10 minutes and burn too many matches. So after the first 30-45 minutes I gave all the groups I ran into a couple of minutes, gauged whether the tempo is alright or if I could push a bit harder and then tried to find "allies" that would make a coordinated effort into the next group ahead. Doing this on your own isn't really sustainable. And: I aimed for roughly 100-120g of carbs per hour, so I had two large bottles filled with carbs and 4x40g Carbs in Gels. Another thing you'll see me do in the video is never stop pedaling. Even if it's soft pedaling or just spinning the legs without any watts, it helps your muscles get rid of the lactate. btw: I rode Aachen yesterday and while feeling great for the first hour, a solo time trial after a puncture that cost me 10 minutes really ruined my legs :D hope you had better luck than me, really enjoyed this video!
@fragfarmerCA
@fragfarmerCA 2 месяца назад
oh, and seeing that you dropped your bottle: I race with Fidlock bottles, and in over 5 years using them, never dropped a single one. I raced Houffalize and Poland last year, two insanely bumpy tracks and it was really nice to be able to rely on the fuel I had on my bike. I had to dodge soooo many bottles, it was madness :D
@FlyingGravelMan
@FlyingGravelMan 2 месяца назад
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. In Aachen I was also aiming for 100g of carbs per hour, I filled my USWE camelback with 240g of carbs this time, but I also filled one bottle with 160g of carbs. Unfortunatly I lost that bottle when I crashed, but more on that in my next video ;) I'll also try the spinning the legs while descending. During last race I had some cramps in the end so I might be able to avoid these when I get rid of the lactate. Although I see some debate in the comments as to pacing or not is the best strategy, I think that pacing works best for me. I tried this during 3 rides Aachen and it felt much better :) Hope to see you in one of the next races!

@fragfarmerCA
@fragfarmerCA 2 месяца назад
@@sams247 should be around 330W @68kg. But to be honest, this isn't what makes you successful in a race, my training focuses on vo2max and being able to produce and reduce lactate quickly. In Valkenburg I rode 260W NP for 3h20mins.

Yeah, always get off the front in a way that you have clear air, and keep the pace high so that you can slot back into the pace line in 5th position or so. Never, ever wait for the last position in the group. The entire race the focus should be: how can I be as far up in this group as possible? Spend some energy to save a lot more energy.
