I love this tip. I've been playing tennis for over 20 years now and me and everyone I know can't properly initiate a warm up ball.

Thanks Jon, glad you enjoyed it. It's definitely a skill that takes time to develop. The good news is as the feed improves so will your slice, volley and feel!

I've always drop-hit my feeds...never really thought of doing it any other way. I'll defiantly try this tomorrow morning.

IM SO glad another PYC member sent me this link! I have been struggling with pre match feeds and lack of consistency in warm ups. It embarrassing! Now it's in my head. I learned 2 important things... 1) I cant use the semi western grip (which is what I was doing) 2) Not to bounce and hit. (Felt really weird with my grip) I will try continental grip and just have shorter swing and drop-hit instead. THANKS!!!

Glad we could help. Feeding is a skill in itself and can be difficult so don't be too hard on yourself. In fact a lot of people struggle to feed the ball appropriately. The good news is once you figure it out, feeding with the continental will help improve your volleys, slice, and even serve. Go get em!

I play with a guy whose feeds are tougher than his groundstrokes. I'm always running and bending and lunging just trying to return the feed. Been the same way for going on 3 years now.

There is nothing more annoying than having someone feed the first ball with heavy topspin. Most of the time it's due to their use of western grip.

There’s a guy at our club who either smashes a winner during a warm up or sends it flying over the fence. SO ANNOYING

lol....yeah that definitely sounds annoying. Thanks for watching!

Right! warm ups are supposed to be cooperative. It's hard to keep giving them good shots to hit back when you are chasing THEIR return all over the court. I wish this was more known in "tennis etiquette"... (like you don't stand in the line of another players putt in golf.) I do think more need to get the memo on this... Sigh..

One guy I play with feeds the ball out of the air (good) with a semi-western (uh oh) and heavy pace and topspin (bad). Still can't tell if he's trying to intimidate (doesn't work) or is just clueless. Another colleague does the "bounce feed" and it looks really amateurish (sorry to say it but it's true). This is great advice and I wish all players learned this early on. Also -- did we just switch from Wilson to Nike? 😉👍🏻

🤣 Enjoyed the feedback Dan and we agree, feeding is an essential skill as a tennis player. We're still 100% Wilson enthusiasts just changing it up a bit periodically as we wait for the new line to come out.

hahahaha, it feels so great that this is not only my but actually an internationally agreed problem. I feel so stupid to hit the first ball into the net or wide out.

No need to feel silly, we all do it. Feeding is a skill and one that takes time to develop. Thanks for watching, hope it helps!
