In the first ever Euro-JDM Garage video review, we take a look at my ultra-rare 1991 Mitsubishi Galant AMG Type II. I believe this is one of only 500 ever built and is a true "unicorn" car. This car is from a time when car manufacturers were constantly trying to one-up each other, and looking at independent aftermarket tuners was one way to upgrade their cars in a very interesting way.
This is truly a "Euro-JDM" car, with a perfect blend of AMG performance and style, with early 90s Mitsubishi build quality and reliability. Truly an exemplary example of a 90s sports sedan that very few people even knew existed! I am very proud to be able to share this special car with you all, and hope you enjoy watching my review of this magnificent automobile. If Daimler bought Mitsubishi motors, Mitsubishi Motors will survive it’s legacies rather than become owned by Nissan. Look at Mitsubishi Fuso, Mitsubishi Fuso is really successful.

Mitsubishi 2,4 Ltr L300 Petrol engine, bulletproof and a trade workers dream van. Very solid engine. Does burnouts well.

My father owned Type I from 1990 - 1994 in Tokyo. As a kid, I very much enjoyed riding in the rear seat. The engine sounded great! In the early 90s the VR-4 and other Galant variants were seen everywhere in Japan but the AMG was very rare.

Hi Kei, thanks for the story! I always wondered what it was like to drive these cars new in Japan- it must have been owned by someone who had very good taste but wanted something unique. Really cool to know that the VR-4 and other Galants were common, but the AMG was always a rare beast!

Very cool and very interesting Galant. It sort of reminds me of when Mazda contracted Callaway to tune the MazdaSpeed Protege. But this is way better and rarer.

It did very poorly at auction, getting much, much lower than what I expected. I think the main issue is that people simply didn't know what this car was. It didn't even reach half the amount of another one for sale in Japan (that one is an auto and the dealer is asking $19k).

@@terry-zi7eh Oh no, I most definitely did not let it go for the $8900 it reached. I actually set the reserve quite low, but that reserve price was definitely the lowest I was willing to go. This is a mint condition Type II AMG Galant with full service history and the 5-speed manual; I don't see how the bidding couldn't even reach $10k! I had over 16k views and 400 watchers, but guess people simply don't know enough about this Euro-JDM legend!

can we get scans of the owners manual and other papers related to galant? It would be nice way to preserve this kind of stuff cause its nowhere else to be found.

Yeah, it's my intention to do that. I have a ton of documentation of this car, stuff that I believe is probably almost completely gone. Will try to scan everything and post it on archive.org or somewhere.

Hi, They sell for extremely cheap still. Under $10k. I tried for over a year to sell mine until it sold, it was an extremely difficult process, even mine, with all documents and mint condition couldn't sell for a dollar more than 10k. I probably lost money on the sale, lol.

@@rj5795 I'm not a dealer, just a simple guy importing cars for my own use, lol. However, I am in the process of actually setting up a JDM importing business because I've had SO many people message me about bringing in their dream car from Japan. Shoot me an email and I'll go over the rate and process I have in plan, it should be fully up and running by next month.

Wow! This car is a true unicorn. I don’t know if AMG has modified cars from brands other than Mercedes-benz and Mitsubishi. As for the unsuccessful auction, I suggest you reach out to Doug Demuro to review it to make people aware of it’s importance then list it on Cars and Bids :)

Good idea. I actually have 2 cars that are going to be on Cars & Bids in a couple weeks (will have videos of those cars next week). I actually already sold one of my cars on that site, while they're upstarts, I think they're doing a great job as competitors to BaT.

Euro JDM Garage Good luck 👍🏻. I love cool Mitsubishis. My first car was a brand new 1998 Galant (Euro spec). I sold it in 2007 and still miss it to this day.

Dude, you are really well-spoken and earnest and I thoroughly enjoyed your video. I'm a BaT regular and I saw your auction. This is a connoisseur's car and it may take a while to sell it, but I think you'll be rewarded for sticking to your guns in regards to that reserve! I'm mostly a BMW guy, but I have had a few Japanese cars (two NA Miatas and a 350z) and I find JDM-only stuff like this vehicle to be fascinating! You mentioned in this video that you've owned a few BMWs, what did you have? (Unless you're holding them back for future videos.) Also, I chuckled at your comment about Germany and Japan's last collaboration. Oh, and subscribed!

Hey JC, Thanks for the kind comments. I didn't script this vehicle- was more on the fly based on my knowledge of this model. I will try to be more professional in future vids in my preperation! I've owned many different Bimmers. One of the current ones I own is a special edition version that was only sold in Japan- I am going to be editing that video review and I'll put it up in a couple weeks. Thanks for the subscription, I had a minor surgery last week so vids have been slow to upload, but I have a ton of stuff on the backlog, so stick around and I think you'll see some very unique content put on this channel!

Hey everyone, thanks to my good friend Sumio in Japan, I was able to dig up more info about the AMG Galant. 1. car-me.jp/articles/2806 - According tho this article, 1400 total AMG Galants were built. This number seems to be split at around 800 for the Type I, and 600 for the Type II. 2. clicccar.com/2018/01/16/540957/ - Another good article that goes over more specs and details about the AMG Galant and Debonair. 3. autos.goo.ne.jp/catalog/mitsubishi/galant/model/1991/ - Price charts of the car when new. Seems the Type I cost more initially (around 2.8 million yen compared to Type II at 2.3 million) Use Google translate on the pages if you don't read Japanese.

Possibly; a naturally aspirated 4G63 is pretty bulletproof, but I've had a few AMGs in my time. My CLK55 and E55 powered by the N/A M113 had no issues even after putting thousands of miles on each. That was truly a great powerplant.

I had 1993 Mitsubishi that was called in Indonesia as Mitsubishi Eterna, black colour, Automatic transmission. A bit difficult to maintain the engine on good performance, as many variable such as air flow sensor, injection, the servo need to be controlled and maintained. When these are well condition, the engine performance will be amazing..
