Martin, we definitely agree. What many homeowner's don't realize is the "X year shingles" are not a guarantee of life of the system, but a defect warranty. Wind is usually 15 years and there is no leak free warranty. Depending on climate shingles last up to 30 years, but many areas are far less. Stone coated metal is definitely not a low cost, but it will last longer than most folks will ever need.

@@happyhomeroofing3326 Last longer and won't blow off in heavy winds. Many of those comp roof warranties are pro rated and the only thing that they guarantee is that you might get slightly reduced price on the same roof that prematurely failed in the first place. Rest assured that the comp roof manufacture will not lose any money by honoring their warranty.

Rick, great question and thank you for reaching out. This scenario would present a challenge for sure as you may have decking damage as well. Removing the panels is a challenge as they do interlock so you may have to remove a good number of rows to make this repair. Fortunately, this should be an insurance claim. Also, the material is not particularly high risk for a lightning strike so I would imagine this situation to be extremely rare. Hope that helps.

This is made by Tilcor, which we believe to be among the best of several manufacturers. The product has been around for a very long time with a proven track record. Between lack of offering and cost it is not as widespread as many other options. We love the product though and hope to see more homeowners taking advantage of the many benefits of a stone coated metal roof.

Great question. The screws are not exposed so the risk of leak is greatly reduced. The fasteners being hidden is a huge advantage over other systems.

This is a very market dependant question. In our area I would say a good rule of thumb is similar to a standing seam price or 2 to 3 times that of an asphalt shingle. Materials are definitely a higher cost and labor is at a premium. Hope that helps!

I have never heard of such an issue. From the outside it is extremely secure and we have a full synthetic underlayment with ice and water shield under so any drops that might find their way in will stay off the deck and out of the attic. We have a hard time finding the weakness in this type of roofing system.

That is a great question. I am including a link to their website. The brochure would be a great resource. The stone and natural glaze seem to be a fairly fool proof system. That said, I am sure 50 years of sun will have some impact. When we look at any roofing system we would expect some degree of color change.
