Now as you can see I have bought an Oris and I’m thinking this may satisfy a certain whole in my collection since I sold my Black Bay Heritage last year. Yes, I have bought an Oris Divers 65 - But in true Awkward Horology fashion its probably not the one you where thinking of.
So why is this version different from the versions you usually see. Well I’ve gone full on vintage reissue authenticity here. It’s not the 42mm, its not the 40MM it’s the 36mm.

What do you prefer? The Oris 65, Tudor Black Bay, Doxa Sub200 or Zodia Super Sea Wolf!

I live Oris. They are one of my favourite brands. Great to see the smaller size. I’ve only had hands on with the larger version.

I prefer the 36mm size but I cannot get over the white date wheel and I much prefer it at 6 o'clock

I have the blue stainless steel version, and wish it would have 20mm lug width, it would give the watch more heft. Something it would need, because the Diver 65 wears smaller to size imho, making the 40mm Diver thankfully wear more like a 39mm watch. I know many folks think a 36mm watch should have a 18mm lug width, but golden ratio says no. I had a 33mm Hamilton Khaki with 18mm lug width, looked absolutely perfect, and the old classic Explorer 1016 sports a 20mm lug width with its 36mm case. But, leaving all sense for design and practicality behind, Oris had to give its 36mm Diver 65 a lug width of 17mm. Seriously, Oris?

I couldn’t agree more 17mm lug width is quite frankly an insane choice given the market availability of 18 and 20 mm straps. Although it would probably be to sell more accessories in house!

You know it’s ironic, my Oris 40mm is the only 20mm strap in my collection and I have a small seiko and a Cartier tank both of which are 17mm straps… maybe I should’ve gone for the 36mm Oris…

I quite like the design. I was eyeing 38mm to 40mm models for a few years. Never purchased one, because I couldn't justify spending that much on a SW-200. From my perspective, I am seeing a $1k watch. $1,500 if I am being generous. Ever since I acquired my Tudor BB54, which is very similar to this watch, I no longer think about this Oris.
