Lol, this skit is spot on. I come from a white family, but with an immigrant father so I was definitely hit, BUT the privacy and room part is beyond true lol. I’ve had a handful of white friends I’ve heard say that exact line

White kid of two white immigrant parents here. My parents appear to have come from the African American traditions of child raising. I heard friends yell at their parents to knock first when Mom showed up with their FOLDED LAUNDRY and offered to put it away for them. I folded the family laundry from the age of 7 and was shocked.

Wow his white friend impression is SPOT ON not gonna lie lol. I remember having a black friend over my house in middle school, and I jokingly said something that would be considered disrespectful (had it been serious or with attitude) to my mom. Me and my parents had a history of being able to lightly joke around like that as long as it was in reason and clearly in good humor (I definitely couldn't just say whatever I wanted). However, after I said whatever it was without even thinking about it, my friend suddenly looked at me TERRIFIED lol. He was like "What are you doing??? You can't talk to her like that! Bro I'm leaving before she comes back here!" We both learned something new that day.

If I ever spoke back to my parents or gave any kind of attitude I'd be put through a wall. I had friends who would yell and scream at their parents and I would look on in horror thinking I was about to watch my friend get murdered, but their parents just took it. It blew my mind.

From what I've heard Kids up to 8 yo are in a lower mental state where they are adsorbing everything around them direct to the subconscious , so hitting a kid below that age or mental abuse is not advised , but a smack after that age , seems fair enough after all its a language they understand . Tricky situation , if everyone else is abusing there kids , in a certain culture , hard to be the first to stop . Waking someone up at 3 am to beat them just sounds like the adult compensating for their screwed up childhood .

I feel like the reasoning my dad was rougher was due to his military background. I feel like the military sometimes leaves that "Well it worked for me in bootcamp, maybe it'll work here." And at least for me it did. I see no reason to be a dick just to be a dick or I'm not getting my way. Clearly there are consequences.

But whenever I was at his house he would smack his little brother and call his dad an assh*le to his face. His mom would just get upset and say don't do that. Sometimes she would just drive me home when he was acting up too much. It was just crazy that they never did anything to him. One time I got caught stealing (for my brother) and before we even got home the store clerk had already called my mom (small town in the 80s). As soon as I walked in the house my mom asked me if I stoled anything. I said no! She checked me and found the hot wheels underneath my shorts. Talk about an azz whooping!! Not only that my dad whooped me too...and mom called my grandparents who lived next door. = More ass whooping!! And I think my grandma beat me more than my mom! Needless to say that was the first and LAST time I stole anything!!

I’m white. Glad to have parents stricter than most in the suburbs cause a lot of kids ended up disrespectful, spoiled, and ungrateful. My mom never beat the shit out of me, but slapped me when I got out of line which wasn’t often. My brother was more of a troublemaker and my dad ended up doing some wrestling moves on him. Honestly, my mom’s anger scares me more than her hands. My mom is the dominant parent and will come into my room whenever so it isn’t a private place all the time.

I’m white but grew up in a black majority setting. My mother did most of the spankings in the house and I got many of them myself. My mother used a wooden spoon to do it. As far as I can remember most of my friends that were black got corporal punishment too. I born in 1977. My wife and I however didn’t ever use spankings on our boys. We tried a few times but we quickly found them getting privileges taken away was a far better deterrent for bad behavior.

Once My friend's mom hit me with switch(southern technique of making the kid grab a stick to whip themselves with, go bigger than you think thin ones don't break like that and end up hurting worse) and once my uncle with a belt. My dad scared the piss out of me with his presence so never got a whooping. Feel like I should stress this wasn't a regular occurrence, go to punishment was "go to your room". Only after I was wilding out for a long time.

I was controlled through emotional or psychological manipulation and pain. Nothing as bad as being hit, but it is a lot harder to 'avoid' or rebel from. Beatings are emotionally damaging, yet you can still rebel or grow out of it. You won't work once you are old enough to fight back. It is bad, and it isn't good to be beaten, but if you are emotionally and mentally punished, you can't fight it. You guys are right, though; getting a beating living in rough areas might help you in the long term deal with the hardships other people would give up in. I might have been emotional harmed, but I wouldn't be able to survive in rougher areas. And being beaten may also limit how well one can survive in areas where emotional or mental violence is the norm.

Or you have sub-par grades, or if you get caught in a lie, or if you don't eat food that you don't like that they made for you knowing you don't like it. Then when they find out you lied about eating the food and you actually threw it out they hang you out of the 2nd floor window saying you're gonna die because you lied to them.

As someone white who didn't have many black friends, but my best friend since HS is black, and honestly that is probably the best aspect of our friendship. We think more alike than any other person I've met, and our personalities and intellect balance each other out while also coordinating together well. As cliche as it sounds he is truly my brother from another mother. Lol. But I think that's why I value his perspective a lot more than many of my other friends, and I find conversating w him to be more interesting and entertaining. We talk about deep shxt... he recently got divorced after losing their child right after birth... it destroyed their relationship and it was really neither's fault... they just had that trauma and loss associated w each other, and it was too much for either to overcome, let alone both. I tried to be supportive and also offer him a reprieve from the negativity when necessary and able. I think it's because we have a different racial dynamic and respect for one another and the bond we have forged despite the differences in culture that seperate my friendship w him from all my others... in a positive light, above all others to me personally. Not as like a pretentious "affirmative action" placement. I'm a random anonymous nobody online... the benefit of lying is essentially zero. Doesn't mean ppl dont do it, but it does severely decrease the likelihood of it.

She would wreck our ass if we talked like these kids!! The very worse ass beatings were (ironically) when we tried to act "better-than" (sometimes it was "equal as")... The most memorable ass whoopin I got was around 9 or 10 and was the last one I got. My dad used a wooden cutting board with a handle on it and always told me to put my hands on the counter (so he wouldn't hit my hands if I covered my ass I guess). Anyway, it was usually 1-3 swats depending on what I did, but that day I wasn't having it. Every swat I got I looked over my shoulder and told him it "didn't hurt". After like 10 hits and tears rolling down my face he tossed the board on the counter and walked away.

I didn't get beat, but at one point my family and I were sleeping basically in one room and I refused to sleep. So my stepdad asked me one night if I wanted to go on an adventure, took me to a cemetery and ran away - hid behind a bush until I stopped crying then took me home. I never had issues sleeping again, that was the sort of discipline I got as a white kid.

I got hit with a belt when I was younger and time i messed up, slap across face, etc. But when I was young my room wasnt my space cause mom and dad paid Bill's. It was their room I just lived in it. As I got older it became my space and I didn't like people in there but it's really my moms cause it's her house.

I cant speak for all white folks but my grandma was old school German and took no shit. She was a sniper with a slipper and god help me if I cuss in front of her. My mother was far more patient, but when my brother and I got her to that level she would always start crying. Which was deceptive cause she only cried when someone died or was about to die ie (us).

I'm Hispanic, and once I was invited to a white friend's party but my parents wouldn't let me, and they straight up told me to sneak out. And I'm just like "???? You think I'm suicidal or something???" You don't play like that with Hispanic parents lol

I'm just as confused as y'all with this stuff, my black friends' parents were more strict, but that was because religion, he couldn't watch certain movies or pokemon and stuff like that, but I think any physical whooping we got was comparable.

I had a white friend and went over to his house and his room was a mess and his mom asked him if he could wash the dishes he was like yeah I’ll do it later he sat on the game for 7 hours and I was like dawg I’ll do the dishes if you clean your room and he was like no I don’t want to and I was like I’m not sleeping here until you clean the room so I washed the dishes and when I went back in to his room he had just rearranged the mess and I was like so I cleaned his room too and helped his mother cook dinner and she was like wtf my son doesn’t do this... ps I Mexican from Texas if I didn’t mention it earlier
