In my home town we have a Corgi festival, it's called Tour De Corgi - all the corgi's and owners gather at a park, where we have booths and corgi courses and agility things and there is a picnic and then a walk and then it ends at a dog pool for a corgi splash party, it's so dang adorable!!!

Protip: if you see two dogs get into a fight that you want to stop, grab their back legs and lift like a wheelbarrow. They immediately stop what they're doing and whip around to see what's up. Haven't had to try this luckily, but I'm ready if I do.

You can also try doing the "wheel barrow" against aggressive dogs! You essentially grab their hind legs and pull the away from the other dog/person/object their being aggressive towards.

We had a mixed bread that was clearly 99% Golden Retriever, he was 100% safe with children, he would not even growl at them no matter what. BUT he was a good guard dog so yes he would attack if the reason was good enough. He was an amazing dog

i can vouch that its not the breed but the training that matters, even pit bulls and bull dogs, historically considered violent inherently, are really kind and loveable if treated well and given the right environment.

we've bred dogs to have certain temperaments so even though i agree that socialization means a ton you still have to be weary

The problem with golden retrievers (and honestly doodles as well) is that people who know absolutely nothing about dogs buy them and assume that they're so sweet they don't need to be trained and don't enforce any kind of boundaries at home. The result: a spoiled dog that doesn't know how to respect boundaries or take correction from dogs or people. And because the owner is clueless, they usually blame the other dog or other owner when something goes wrong. There was a doodle in my old neighborhood that would RELENTLESSLY hump other dogs, and when my dog tried to give a completely normal correction, the doodle owner would tell me my dog was aggressive, and could never get the hint even tho his doodle had issues with a lot of other dogs. I would leave the dog park if I saw them coming. Breeding isn't everything.

I think I'd be more entertained by the dog festival than the monkeys, just because golden retrievers have so much floof - and I've seen videos of that doggy party, and it looked like so much fun, even if it is a facade to a league of blood-thirsty pups.

Scotland loves dogs, most places are very dog friendly around Scotland. Can often find somewhere to have a meal and get your dog a meal too!

REMINDER: Pitbull type dogs do NOT have "locking jaws". No dog does. That mechanism requires an extra bone that dogs do not have. I know no one made that claim this time, but I still felt like it was relevant!

My dog was actually attacked and my mom bit by a golden retriever at a dog park. Used to love them, but just like any breed they can still be poorly trained and aggressive

After working at a number of grooming salons/vets/pet stores I've learned to be extra wary around specific breeds. Most of those breeds aren't what you'd expect... And Golden Retrievers are absolutely one of them!

Yepp. Worked at a grooming shop and we used caution around breeds like Goldens because owners assume they’re sweet dogs and don’t do basic aggression training. Pitbulls are absolute sweethearts, tho and I loved when we booked them. We fought over who got to groom them sometimes as they were so well behaved and affectionate 😂

You dont' have to travel that far to go to at Golden Retriever day. In Golden CO where you all vacationed . We hold one in Feb called Goldeens In Golden there were close to 1000k dogs this year. Please come it is the best day ever, no misbehaving at all ever.

Technically, in a dog attack most people don’t have time to think rationally, but issues can happen if you try to forcibly separate them. Such as you getting bit yourself causing rabies quarantines and medical visits. I’ve seen people have to go through surgery and physical therapy from getting bit by both the other dog and their own while trying to separate them. It’s recommended to spray water hose if available or use an object that is not your person to separate the dogs. Sometimes screams can heighten anxiety in the animals and increase the aggression.

My dog was also attacked by a golden retriever. Gave him a strange attitude to all dogs individually after when before he loved all dogs.. some dogs that he was great friends with he now acted weird with. He was completely fine tho injury wise. I wasn’t I came home and cried lol

Working in the industry of animal wellfare/veterinary care has taught me that domesticated animal behavior almost always boils down to how owners handle them and the blame should always be put on the owners, not the breed.

I worked at a dog walking type business with a variety of dogs.. the golden retrievers were always sooooo friendly to the staff … not so much to the other dogs 🥴 especially if they had “claimed” a staff for the day, if another dog tried to come near that staff the goldens were super aggressive. I think they have this innate loyalty. Side note: one of those goldens also got extremely excited while playing/chasing with me and ended up biting my arm and left a pretty nasty bruise. I knew they were just very happy/excited though sooo not holding it against them (but maybe I am a little 🥴😜)

You absolutely kick the offending dog. I was recently or in that situation, and I didn't have to think. I yelled for the dog's owner to get it, and I kicked it to protect my dog.

Not all dogs are good. Just like not all dogs are bad. You can’t tie certain traits and qualities to one breed of dog 100% of the time. A lot do how they behave is based on how they are raised.
