Let’s see what we can learn from this rather poor performance of 4wding. There is a time and place for this type of driving and it’s on private property where the land owner is happy for it to happen.

What amazes me is the growing trend on RU-vid, that seatbelts are not needed once you leave the bitumen. You don't have to look far to see examples of this. They connect the buckles and sit on top, so the alarm doesn't work. This Video is a classic example of why tracks are being closed for good.

Already happened around my home here in Virginia. I used to be able to go out and drive for miles on dirt roads, but they all got closed to through-traffic because of the people (mostly highschoolers) being idiots, wrecking and blocking the road or doing burnouts until the ruts were too deep for the residents to get their cars in and out.

This act of brazen, moronic stupidity makes my blood boil - both the littering and the driving standards. I see behaviour like this all of the time here in the UK on our so-called "green lanes" (which are unsurfaced public roads to those overseas) to the point I'm convinced it's the majority here and not the minority who behave like this. I'd say we should be educating these people but in my experience they don't want to be educated, and would carry on regardless. As for the alcohol, it should never be mixed with operating a vehicle of any sort. People get killed through drinking and driving, and I'm sure many of us know, or are aware of, at least one person affected by someone driving in an impaired condition.

This is happening all over the world. In the USA, trails are getting closed all the time. because of it. It's too late for education at this point in life. The education needed to start when these people were toddlers. There is no respect for mastery anymore There is no interest in pursuing it, and anyone who seeks it is just seen as a fool. Stupidity is glorified. It's a race to the bottom, and this group of guys are at the front of the pack rounding the final curve. By the time I'm gone, there won't be anyone competent to bury me.

When I first got into the offroad scene pre-covid, I always struggled in making 'quality' mates my age. Never wanted to send it, get on the drinks, and roll vehicles, yet everytime a 'meet' is organised it turns out similar to this scenario; ego, adrenaline and right foot - not interested in seeing someone lose a limb. Need more 4WD Clubs focused on young folk, lead by experienced role models. I'm also inclined to say that if you publish videos like this, which does promote the act to others, you should face fines for littering, drinking while operating a vehicle, and reckless driving - possibly loss of license, if this was a commodore in suburbia it would go that way. It's one thing to have an accident, it's another when it's clear arrogance and negligence.

I’ve been 4wding for around 26 years now and I have seen a fair bit in that time. Sadly, social media is driving this sort of behaviour amongst younger people. It’s so refreshing to see that there is someone from this generation that is completely the opposite. Keep doing you, mate. Follow and learn from those that don’t subscribe to the smash and bash way of driving and you will do well. Hopefully you’ll inspire a lot more people in your age group to do the same. 👍🏻

First time I've seen this full video but I have seen clips of the roll over numerous times. All I can say is this video epitomises everything wrong with the 4wd community. The alcohol, the reckless driving even right down to the footware. I'm fine with people wanting to do hard tracks but the whole careless attitude not just for the vehicle but the environment. Everything we see in this video is what I hate seeing among the 4wd community. Sadly there seems to be a growing number like this and it will give National Parks, Forestry, whoever all the reason they want to close tracks, camps etc. Not to mention the rubbish left behind. God knows how many ton of rubbish we pulled out of the bush today for Clean Up Australia Day but there was heaps and it was just a small area we worked on.

I am with a US east coast club and have done trials in Appalachian Mtns from Maine to Georgia. Where I have seen this kind of thing happen is all to often when a guy sees someone ahead make it up the obstacle with what the considers a lesser rig and/or lessor driver. That makes them berserk if they can't make it over the obstacle as well. Sometimes the person ahead of you had good luck, or are simply a better driver. You can't make that have you get frustrated. Some days you are just not going to do it.

These are a good example of the mad buggers who get all the tracks closed. If you can't crawl up a hill it's pretty easy, just get the winch out and pull up it. I have never actually needed to use my winch in over 10 years of 4WDing but that is my philosophy for any situation. The driving we see here, especially on muddy tracks, just wrecks the tracks and makes them impassable. I have seen many tracks go from easy if you use your brain to rutted goat tracks in just a couple of months because drivers think that the only answer is more right foot. Good advertisement for old Patrols though, even these idiots can't break it until it goes on it's roof.

I was in my mates troopy riding passenger (leaf sprung front and rear) went up a steep hill and he gave a bit too much right foot, started to hop and it tipped to its left, (no seatbelt) and if it wasn't for my mate that grabbed me at the last minute as it tipped to the side I would've fell through and got crushed to death. Luckily it didn't roll down the hill as the trees stopped it from going any further. 25 years old now and looking back to it, made me realise why seatbelt is everything whether 4wding or not. Luckily it was a few of us, we pushed it back on all fours and kept going that day! Troopy is still kicking till now 👍

I am with you, Matt. Definitely NOT respectful of National Parks or there users/owners (us). Seem to have completely forgotten how easily 4x4s rollover on lumpy tracks, hence no spotter & no precautions!

I'm in the US, and this is an example of how/why so many of our forest roads are gated and locked. My biggest gripe is the fluids, there's no reason that having a great day "guardrail racing" has to result in that kind of damage.

Zero mechanical sympathy shown sadly. Regardless if you are wrecking it or not. I know we all want a good time and a good laugh but that driver has a duty of care for the passenger.

I am 59 and even though we never wore seat belts on road my rule in my vehicles was 'SEAT BELTS ON NOW OR GET OUT!" People always thought I was strange but common sense told me it's possible we might flip.I never did but have been in a few that did.

They obviously don't care about the vehicle, hence the aggressive driving. They went there to film an 4X4 action scene for their channel and not to enjoy nature/scenery. It's the same scene here in NZ and are tracks are getting closed one after another.

Totally agree Matt, we watched this video on YT a few weeks back and came up with many of the same conclusions. The worst parts are lack or respect for safety, lack of respect for the vehicle, and totally lack of respect for the National Park. We are so lucky in Aus that we can access NPs in our 4x4s, but this sort of behaviour will get more tracks and parks closed, some of the authorities are just waiting for this sort of driving (and evidence) as an excuse to close off tracks and whole areas of our bush.

Yet another outcome reflects IQ video. Terrible track work, I hope they cleaned up their mess. Australia is a great country, if we all treat it with some respect it’ll stay great. Good synopsis Matt.

Appreciate this discussion. It really is trashing our environment in the same way it’s trashing the car. (often left in the bush) It also causes tracks to become inaccessible for others including fire fighters.

Keep up the fine work Matt, very disappointing to see this type of behaviour… as an aside , dogs aren’t generally permitted in National Parks… so I wonder if Parks will send these guys a little reminder of their adventures?

I can't comment I didn't know what to think of that dumb idea. We see that stuff in comp trucks but done properly. I'll guarantee that's not mounted properly and probably has the rope running next the the drivers legs.

Not sure if it’s the same is Australia. But 1 issue here in the UK, assisted from the general disregard for any kind of Road regulations is that literally anyone can go and buy a 4wd (old discovery’s being popular) jack them up but aggressive boots on and go drive. The 4wd’s 9 times from 10 aren’t road worthy and the drivers are just out to get muddy with to regard for the country side, other users of the country side and in many cases the farm land that they ruin.

This fits more under the heading "power sports". In this case it is also extreme immaturity. We should never let these people wear our badge. I don't wear an on-road seat belt because the ratcheting shoulder strap can lock you down and hinder driving. I use instead a 3" racing lap belt. I love thongs / flip flops for around camp, but there are ridiculous for any active sport. The instant I see anyone wearing them in this way, I know exactly what mindset I'm dealing with. Really, this sort of thing is just another symptom of a much larger societal problem that we have. It's not that it's new, but the scale and extent is something we have never seen before.

Like you said these are becoming very rare and to just total a car for the sake of it, this really upsets me. Anyway we don't have to worry anymore, this behaviour has closed most our parks, I hike everywhere now 😢

Matt, what was the Tinnie:rollover ratio? Dog seemed more concerned about the situation then the "Mates". We see this behaviour in State and Federal parks in the US as well. More often then not, they'll abandon the vehicle for someone else to cleanup. Especially if it's stolen.
