Hi Al, thanks again for being my guest on my channel on that last Sunday...I remember you mentioned this, and the bottle looks original too (glass cork ! interesting). So is it a Bushmills sourced malt or their own juice after reviving the brand, not sure I understood it well, my friend....Anyway your notes indicate a rather tasty whiskey, so Cheers !
Hi, Al. New subscriber here from California, where I am fortunate enough to have a shop that carries Limavady on the regular. I have bought two bottles (same barrel, darn) this year and on my first tasting, I was blown away. It has all the hallmarks of an Irish single malt but I love how the malted barley shows through prominently, yet without overshadowing spice and vanilla. Limavaday’s use of PX casks is judicious as well, seeing as it doesn’t saturate the whiskey with the cognac-like flavor that overindulgence in those casks can produce. With this release, we see how a master distiller’s restraint can still pay huge dividends in flavor. I shared this with a friend who’s big into Irish whiskey (big fan of Redbreast and Yellow Spot) alongside RB 15, Bushmills 12, and a couple bourbons. He concluded that Limavady stole the show far and away. Thanks for posting the detailed review and I look forward to peeping your channel. Sláinte!
Hi bud and thanks for both your sub and informative comment. As you can see from this vid, I'm a big Limavady fan - and a head's up to you, as illness got the way of doing my whiskey of the year last year, I'm going to do it in June (and it'll be the Limavady). It blew me away from the start and while I've experienced some batch variation, it never fails to hit the spot. I really look forward to what more is coming - and I know there will be more. I have quite a few more reviews lined up and I'll be back in the groove very soon. Cheers from across the pond and keep in touch - Sláinte!
Poured a dram of this and followed the review. Mmm...pot pourri I thought...yes...getting the sweetness and floral nature. Then I looked up and noticed the dozen wide-open lillies on the kitchen table-d'oh!! Must try again tomorrow...
Another dram (or two) won't hurt tomorrow mate🤣Great to hear you were drinking along. Hope you're back down this way soon for a few more samples. Cheers.
Subscribed. Bloody good whiskey I fully agree. Just literally purchased this one tonight and tasted along as you reviewed. You actually put words to the explosion of flavors I was experiencing and as I slowly chew through this dram. I especially love the textured sweet/spicy/oak and heavy cereal malty notes. VERY chewy and this is one I'll be studying further slowly as this whiskey oxidizes in the bottle over time. May well use some of this single malt for my international malt whiskey only infinity bottle.... SLAINTE! 🥃
Some others don't seem to like it as much as I do, but I've had 3 bottles so far now and I absolutely love it. It's so damn good. If you get one, let me know your thoughts. Cheers mate.
Another one I haven’t heard of yet. You make it sound delicious. I’ll have to look for it. My only problem is I always feel like a single barrel should be released as a cask strength. Cheers, Al!
It certainly is a delicious whiskey and a very distinctive bottle. Here's hoping a cask strength expression will come in due course. I reckin it'd be a joy to behold. Cheers Brandon.
Another great review, your passion really comes through on the reviews I’ve watched. Great tasting notes and nice introduction. Spot on with your timings, at 46% the £40 price point isn’t too bad .Lots of sherry and mixed floral notes give a perfume character.
Many thanks for your kind words John, very much appreciated. The deeper I've gotten into the world of whiskey, the more my passion grows and the more I want to experience. The rebirth of Limavady has been a while coming, but it has been worth the wait because it's been done right. Cheers John.
Big Al, really enjoying this bottle. Very CRUSHABLE! Like you say, the balance is right on with the bourbon, PX and malt. So glad I bought 2 bottles online. They are going fast. CHEERS!!
Thanks mate - and thanks for pointing me in the direction of this lovely whiskey. As you see, I'm a major fan. I really hope Darryl does a cask strength - what a joy that would be! Cheers mate and thanks once again.
This sounds like a cracker. A hanging out by the fire...storytelling...playing music kind of dram. I'm finding it hard to get past the bottle though. Is that a glass stopper? Boy, if you could strip off the label, wouldn't it make a great looking decanter! Cheers Al 🥃🤗🥃 Marian 🇨🇦
It really is a wonderfully crafted bottle and, yes, it's a glass stopper. I'll be using my empty as a decanter. Re the whiskey, it really does hit the spot for me with big flavours and a nice ABV too. Cheers Marian.
