As a retired teacher with over 35 yrs experience and Mom of 2 young adults, I have checked out their products previously and am only sad that these weren't available when I could have used them! The kits look amazing! They're designed to encourage independent thinking and creativity while building upon science and math skills! I would recommend to anyone who can afford them, would make great Christmas gifts I bet!
I got my kids the Tinker Crate series last Christmas and they had a lot of fun with them! So glad KiwiCo included The Yummy Crate it's perfect for those that are interested in eating their projects. 😋
I have a 4 yr old and she loves her kiwicrates!! I am so glad i bought a year subscription because every month is a learning adventure!! We absolutely love kiwicrate!
McDonald's apple pies were deep fried, and served at the temperature of the surface of Mercury. Even after sitting for an hour, they were still scalding hot. I'll try yours.
You're food videos over the last who knows how many years have caused me to really broaden my pallet. Your food descriptions on taste, texture, mouth feel, everything, really helped my get over my fear of strange food. I got an appreciation for looking for each component as opposed to being overwhelmed by too many flavours. Even going into the science of how food just works. I've gained such a better understanding for food. Without your videos, I honestly think I'd still be eating chicken nuggets every day 😂 now I'm far more adventurous with my food and my cooking. I eat sea food now, 18 year old me would never.
Awwww! As someone who has always had an adventurous palate and could never understand “picky eaters” , thank you for posting this. I had always assumed picky eaters were just being difficult. I never thought there could be a sensory issue involved. You’ve helped me to be a bit more understanding and compassionate ❤️
i think the kiwico ad was amazing. i’d even order it for myself as an adult because i’m someone that has a lot of sensory issues & can be easily overwhelmed by long lists of ingredients or vague cooking instructions. great work emmy!
Me too. I did see some frozen pies for sale in bulk that looked just like McDonald’s that I could fry but I’d have to buy over a hundred. I love and miss them but not that much.
I can see all kinds of applications for this-I love making pies, but as a single person I don’t love having a whole pie lying around. I never thought of using puff pastry to make hand pies with my regular fillings!
Growing up with emmy has gotta be one of the best things that’s ever happened to me. She taught me about science and food and made it so interesting. Her videos will never not be entertaining. Thanks emmy🙂
I make a larger version of these for thanksgiving every year! They're super easy and feed a whole bunch of people. The filling I make is a little different. I cook the apples with some brown sugar and get the apples super syrupy. It's always been a hit :)
Interesting that you mentioned baking soda lowering the PH for pretzels and thereby allowing better browning - the same technique was used for roasting potatoes on SortedFood the other day.
Emmy! We still have fried apple pies in McDonald's Mexico, we have also a cheese filled variety. Thank you for keeping a smile in our faces during this uncertain times.

My mom worked, so we kids would often 'prep' dinner when she would call letting us know she was leaving work. We would take the all day marinating steak out of the frig. Cut up vegetables, start a pot of rice or potatoes, start the bbq coals, etc. We all knew how to make bread from scratch, make salads, cook meat and fish so it is edible. My grandmother taught cooking, way back in the early 1920's. I am a fortunate soul. Thanks mom. ♡
Oh my goodness, I had the fried McDonald's apple pie for the first time while in Seoul. I was hooked! The crust was thin, delicate and bubbly with that perfect crunch. The filling perfectly sweet but not over whelming. Dipped in icecream...heaven! The way you describe this, I can't wait to make it as it seems the flavors may come close. Thank you, Emmy!
I've two people in my house who have celiac disease, thus cannot eat wheat products, but using substitions, will certainly be able to recreate a yummy version of this. Thanks for breaking it down and making it easy, Emmy!
There is wheat/gluten free puff pastry by GeeFree. I’ve heard people had good results from it. I’m gluten free myself but GeeFree changed the recipe and put dairy in it(which I also have a allergy too besides gluten/wheat). I’ll have to find a decent recipe myself. I’m sure it will come out delicious! Thanks for looking out for your relatives that have celiac!!
Back in the day I used to get an apple pie every time I went to McD’s they were so delicious. However, when they changed from deep fried to baked, I bought one and it was the last apple pie I ever had from them. Maybe both are good in their own way, but comparing them to each other, the original is the best and the new one tastes like disappointment.
I love using a puff pastry sheet. Like, yeah there’s a sense of pride when you do it correctly yourself, but man is it nice to have the option of a store bought crust.
“Caution : Contents may be hot!!! “ It would be wonderful with a pumpkin cream cheese filling. Emmy is my life blood. I still want to see you make hamburger helper sushi or lunchables waffles.
McDonalds did actually make a pumpkin hand pie similar to their apple pie back in the early 00’s. I recall trying it, and it was actually quite tasty, hot and creamy with pumpkin spice
I had one of the fried ones only last week as a treat (here in the UK! Yes they are definitely still as hot as the sun 😂) I don’t have them often but this is the time of year I do like to indulge - great video as always 😁 your sons burgers looked fantastic too - great job 👏🏻
Hi Emmy! Would you consider trying to make some Icelandic dishes? I would love to see some people try them! You would be my favorite to see. An easy and simple place to start is a favorite traditional comfort food called Plokkfiskur. Few ingredients and easy to make. Love your channel! Much love from Iceland 🇮🇸🇮🇸🇮🇸
@@whocares269 I do too! The only videos about trying and making icelandic food come from Icelandic RU-vid trying Þorramatur they've never had(a selection of traditional foods served during the months of þorri) or traval channels trying snacks. I would love to see some of these cooking channels try making and tasting dishes. Especially with the open mind Emmy has. Þorramatur is my favorite food of all. All traditional dishes have a place in my heart haha.
@@emmymade thank you! I just sent it, hopefully it works. I've had trouble with many sites not sending things due to the name Þorsteinn having the character "þ". It seems to make things glitch out a lot. Hope you might visit Iceland someday and appreciate the beauty, culture and food first hand. Much love ❤
If you love puff pastry, you should make pastelitos de guayaba y queso! They're a traditional Cuban pastry made with puff pastry filled with guava paste and cream cheese.
I would love to see a McDonald's holiday pie copycat recipe! I can't seem to find one that i feel would be a perfect match. Am i the only one who can't wait for the pies every year?!
The pies here in the UK are still fried. They are always scalding hot and have a super thick filling, like applesauce with tiny pieces of apple. The little bubbles on the outside of the pastry make them super crispy!
I like adding a little drizzle of caramel over the apple filling before sealing up the puff pastry and to be extra, after cooling a few minutes, brush the pastry with melted butter and sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top. It's sort of like Taco Bell's Caramel Apple Empanada, except it tastes 100 times better.
The fried apple pies were to live for! I have driven through NC and discovered some local burger spots that still do fried apple pies (and they will shake them in cinnamon sugar if you ask nicely)! This is another great recipe, Ms. Emmy. And I also enjoyed learning about the KiwiCo products.
I always thought that the McDonald's apple pies were deep fried because of the very crispy, crusty, blistered surface, more like batter than pastry... Mind you, I do prefer my pastry baked!
i know ive said this before but ive been watching your channel since before you announced you were gonna have your first kiddo. they grow up so fast!!!
I make something similar, but I call them “pop tarts”. And basically it’s a way for me to use up the jam that’s gotten to be 3 years old because no one really likes them. Looking at you peach. 😏
I was really hoping you were going to fry those pies. Now I'm thinking the dough from the Korean corn dogs filled with this filling and fried would be EPIC.
Australia still fries dem apple pies, a once every six months treat. Yummy. I will never understand Americans they upsize everything and drink Coke by the gallon and change the delicious MacDonald's apple pie to baked rather than fried to save a few calories. Have some control and enjoy one occasionally.
McDonalds use to have Fried Apple Pies !!! They were discontinued for the new Baked Apple Pies. Main reason for the change was due to profit loss due to some pies always broke during frying or were damaged during delivery. The baked apple pies didnt have the issue of breaking due to use of oven instead of a fryer. We also had cherry, pumpkin, chocolate, blueberry, strawberry and other flavors as well for the fried pies.
When McD stopped making the fried and used the baked ones, it upset people. So, someone made a website listing all the McDonalds that DID still sell the fried ones !!! Because some stores were still selling them, but it was hit or miss trying to find them. The website was cool, imagine being so in love with the pies that you make a website. YAY OH, they also stopped the cherry version. dang
that pie sounded so crispy. lol and i never knew that they used to be fried. those must have been more crispier back then too than compared to now. now i want to try one. lol
Those look better than Mc. D's Mc. D's probably used just a pie crust.. I love puff pastries... ive been in love with them since i had a pot pie from Jason's deli... they are amazing.. so i will make this.. i have found the puff pastries.. im so excited
That was great. I had a neighbor when I was little and Flo would make fried apples pies. So good. Please Stay Safe, Happy And Healthy. Have A Wonderful Day
Woah, I'm suprised that in US you don't have fried pies in McD. I didn't know. In Poland we still have only fried option and recently I love it again. But I'm courious to try to do this baked ones.
Popeyes fries their apple pies and I think they're even better because they add extra cinnamon sugar to the outside of the pie...mmm that crunch is so good.
In Poland you can still get these fried apple pies, we always have apple and one seasonal flavor that changes periodically (annoyingly you can't check, you always have to ask). My favorite was salty caramel one last winter!
.McD's Apple Pies are still deep fried in my country. It was such a surprise for me to get a baked one the first time I got one in USA. I like both but slightly prefer the baked as it's a novelty for me and I can get the deep fried anytime, except during lockdown they closed all Mcdonald's and after reopening it took ages for the apple pies to come back on the menu.

We used to call the old fried ones at Micky D's - hot lava pockets!!! The local char grill sales the fried ones just like McDonald's old ones in our town and they are so yummy!! Yours looked better than the new ones they sell!! TY!
I'm sure a dozen or more people have said this already, but to my SoCal friends who are looking to make the pilgrimage: I believe the Lakewood Boulevard McDonalds in Downey still sells Fried Apple Pies. (They're the only location in the contiguous 48 that sells them!)
I haven’t eaten McDonald’s in years. I bought an apple pie from them and let it sit on my counter for 3 months and it didn’t mold, it smelled like it did when I first got it no break down at all.
