This video attempts to answer the questions: Is Tony Robbins of fraud? Did Tony Robbins go too far in giving mental health advice? Does Tony Robbins believe that emotional abuse isn’t real? Tony Robbins is an extremely popular life coach who gives advice on a wide range of subjects including finance, physical fitness, mental health, and relationships. BuzzFeed news reported allegations from staff and customers indicating that Tony Robbins harassed and otherwise abused them. I offer a critical analysis of the allegations and of his role as a life coach versus the role of mental health professional.

I bought some Tony Robins programs on audio (CD). they were very interesting to listen to and I guess entertaining. But it did not deliver on the promise to change my life as in reality there is no simple big secret to success but the marketing of his products often promises just that.

It’s basic supply and demand/economics. If there’s only 2000 seats available (supply) at a venue for an event and he knows 2000 people would be willing to spend a certain amount (demand) to see him, why would he choose to sell himself short and charge less than what people would be willing to pay for it? It’s a for profit business after all
@danutahanyga4834

@@frankbreuer8849 If it wasn't for the money, he wouldn't be charging USD 2,000 per person to attend his seminars. Some people take a loan or sell all their belongings a car and/or furniture to attend. To me it is unconscionable. Not every attendee gets individual attention from T. Robbins. He also "employs" assistants to help him. Their day begins at 6am if I remember correctly and they work all day. He doesn't pay them a penny. He manages to convince suckers for whom he is a god-like figure to feel privileged to be in his presence and watch the seminar for free. ??!! I have a friend who was so taken by Tony Robins that she signed up to volunteer. She was persistently trying to convince me to join her. Robins is fun to watch and the techniques he uses to reframe the thinking are impressive. It's a bit of a trick though because achieving a lasting change in unproductive thought patterns requires consistent daily practice until the new neural pathways are established. You believe 10 million is enough for someone who is motivated by money?. It sure is not enough for Mr Gates and others like him. His much-publicised giving away his entire wealth did not eventuate. His "charitable" foundation is also income-producing. Remember M. Douglas's character Gekko? "Greed is good". Look at Zelensky, Ukraine's President. Before the armed conflict with Russia, his net worth was 700 million USD. Now it's at least twice as much. More likely triple. Not from his salary, that's for sure. And still not enough. He continues to go around with his begging ball. His cabinet has even been appropriating humanitarian aid. The US cracked it but only because they were openly flaunting their wealth. Zelesky was ordered to sack them and one was arrested for stealing 400,000 USD from humanitarian aid. His, his family and his cabinet lifestyle is courtesy of the US and EU taxpayers. Who are getting poorer and poorer. Poroshenko left when his 5 years term in office ended, with a cool 1.6 billion USD. While his country is probably the poorest in Europe. He was wanted by Ukraine's judiciary on embezzlement charges. The US ordered Zelensky to replace the judiciary, the charges vanished and his wealth spread over accounts in UK, EU, US, Canada and Switzerland, frozen due to pending charges, were fired for him to use about mid-2021.

Tony is successful because he promises hope and backs it up with a wallop of infectious charisma. He is tall, speaks with impressive enthusiasm and passion, and is superficially likable using self-deprecating humor. He really knows how to work a crowd to get them into an inspired state. Then 2 weeks later the participants wonder what it was all about once the spell has worn off.

Ha Ha!...that reminded me of verbal battle I was engaged in over a CB radio when I was a truck driver..a big retired marine that many feared as he enjoyed bullying any one that spoke up to him...I was new at the company and really was an introvert but there was something intriguing about that CB radio and how I could use it..everyonehad a CB handle or name and I told them mine was Highlander...I envisioned myself like an actor on stage..as soon as he heard my voice he started taunting me.I admit my adversary was loud, mean and intimidating but as our battle jabbed and stabbed like daggers across the radio waves for several hours, I had to use my wit, sarcasm and sense of humor at the best of my ability because not only was he a bully, he was very smart...but somehow, I got to him and he said aloud, HIGHLANER, DON'T EVER SPEAK TO ME AGAIN!!..YOU BEADY EYED MAGGOT!! And I keyed up the mic and with a calm voice I said, My eyes aren't beady...a few months later we became friends.....my apologies to anyone that thought this was going to be a great story....just a triggered memory

In the early 90’s I had a job transcribing his seminars. This was my first introduction to Tony Robbins and I remember thinking how cult-like the presentations and activities sounded. Later my employer invited me to attend one of his seminars since he was given two free tickets. I was curious so I attended with him. After 30 minutes of people sharing their “personal” stories, we had enough and stood up to leave. To our surprise our exit was blocked at the door by a person claiming we were not allowed to leave. Luckily my employer wasn’t having it and we left.

I appreciate your comment. I suspect it will be countered by many who are totally convinced they were dramatically benefitted by Tony Robbins's workshops or books. I tend to agree with your blunt assessment, but I also allow for at least some people having truly life-changing experiences. I just don't think most of those benefits are due primarily to what Tony Robbins presented. The scam aspect is the continued appeal for more money for more seminars for more supposed benefits. See my lengthy commentary on the video and its analysis of the Tony Robbins approach posted on this same page. I'd be interested to know if it makes sense to you as someone who has been through the self-help guru's program.

I met Tony Robins in 1982. I was suffering from bouts of anxiety, paranoia, and fear. What I did not know at the time, that this was a side affect from Chronic Pain. Back then Tony was performing "Fire Walks", walking barefoot on Hot Coals, to specifically overcome ones fears. Now this is an admirable intent, and I participated in the Fire Walk and did experience a temporary relief from the anquish I was experiencing, but it could not repair the cause of my psychological problems; a bent and twisted spine from 2 genetic curvatures in my spinal column. After the Fire Walk, I hung around to observe Tony. He seemed to me to have an obssessive, relentless, positivity that appeared disingenuous. He never really looked anyone in the eyes for more than a few seconds and relies on his imposing physical stature, facial expressions, body movements and his incessant talking, (he appears to Never Shut Up) to convince someone he knows something special; he really doesn't. Most of his ideas in his never ending verbal diarrhea can be found in all kinds of "self help" books going back to the late 1950's and 1960's. He has Nothing Unique or New to offer. It's all just Tony practicing his Grift in Monetizing individuals weaknesses, fears, self doubt, anxiety and uncertainties. Go to a Tony Robins' event and you're sure to get a Rush of Dopamine that will temporarily wash your troubles away, but there's always the Next Dopamine Fix, that only Tony can give you, and you'll pay big bucks to keep that Dopamine running. In short, he's just another Grifter. I've been in Chronic Pain for 47 years. Statistically I should not be alive, but I'm still here, no thanks to Tony Robins.

Very well said! And yes there have been some people helped by him or maybe even a lot of them , as he’s been around now for about 30 years I think doing his thing. But everything you said about the dopamine rush is Scientifically correct. The same thing people used to get from going to a Jim Rohn seminar, or for a Baptist weeklong revival retreat (Although different people are drawn to each of those things and the continent delivered is different). That being said - the $10 investment I made in a paperback book in 1993 of Tonys “Awken the Giant Within” was well worth the money I paid at that time. It and entertained me through two different airport layovers, and I did reference certain chapters of it for years to come - but the main new idea in it but I actually honestly confess I never saw again later even in graduate school, but the whole chapter on using softer words euphemism for some emotions (rather than using the full common word/adjective) to modulate your responses accordingly (A spin of neurolinguistic programming). That was interesting and it has stuck with me for almost 30 years. That being said - that was the only money I actually spent on Tony Robbins so I’m probably not qualified to have a strong opinion on the cost versus value ratio of his more expensive programs.

After interviewing them the one thing I saw that all of them had in common was that they couldn't get their own life together (e.g., failed careers, relationships, goals never met, etc.). I worked as an executive assistant for the founder of said company..(I had to sign an NDA upon my hiring but I no longer care considering I cut ties with the company and resigned as I morally could not put up with it anymore) he was essentially a Junior Tony.. I dealt with Tony’s people on a regular basis. I didn’t know much about that kind of world so to speak but as soon as I was in it, I realized what an absolute fraud it was. It felt like a cult. It made me disgusted watching his Netflix special so I could learn more about what he does and what kind of “industry” I was working in… Seeing him essentially provoke a huge emotional response among the crowd while speaking to an individual and acting as if he cured them like some sort of magician. This man has no psychological training, nothing. He is a con artist, he is a scam artist. The thing is you reach a point in life when you think, hold on, is it the world or is it me ! And then it suddenly dawns on you, IT IS YOU ! You feel a bit dumb but then you realise the possibility. You can go from being played to being the player. Who you are and what you see affects how we see others. When we blame what is outside us we are giving away our power. Tony and his teachings are a tool, the are neither good nor bad. It really depends on what you want to do and who you are. I have no doubt he has good intentions but that is immaterial. It is up to the person to take responsibility for who they are and what they do. You are right I have seen alot of 'interesting' money propositions in these kind of workshops. But when you realise money is not the thing anyway, then it doesn't really matter. If someone thinks plastic bags are the answer to life and they are 'conning' you of them and you then spend a great deal of time arguing against them who s the greater fool ! Tony like all teachers and humans isn't perfect. He gives alot to feed people, sure sometimes he seems too wrapped up in the outer success but no on e know what he really experiences. What all the comments, particuarly the ones against Tony highlight is most people feel the world does stuff to us and is out of our control. We choose how to respond, we can have critical thinking and even better do meditation and then we are free !

I went over to her and asked if she was ok; she was hyperventilating. When more normal breathing returned, out poured the most awful report of how she sought Robbins help at a vulnerable time, how he tricked her into giving the contents of her bank account on the promise if emotional & psychological help only then to trick her further into an intimate relationship though she didn't know it was just an affair at the time. College was overkill for what I do and it's a natural resource bachelor degree in science. In terms of Robbins' approach to his craft if he's gonna be counseling people with their trauma it sounds like he should have some formal education on counseling mental trauma. The reason I'm saying this is because I think Robbins' is sniffing in his own glue. I'm sure he possesses natural motivation speaking ability but to a certain point. I don't typically fall for infomercial content, but this seemed exceptional, so feeling inspired in the wee hours of the morning I took the bait. As I recall, it cost around $200, very expensive, especially in the 90s. . Though I was satisfied with the materials received, the 30 day program was of little help to me. Just to be fair, I was listening to the tapes during my 2 hours of commute to and from work daily. Maybe if I had given the program 100% attention, It would have yielded better results. However the assignments were very tedious/boring. Even so, I do think Robbins intent is to truly help people, but at a premium price. Tony does have friends/clients in high places, which helps validate him. For instance, in one of his events which I seen here on youtube, Al Gore was in attendance (Al Gore had made a funny comment from his seat in the audience, regarding winning then loosing the presidential election). I was mystified by Tony Robbins’ extreme wealth and success in persuading millions of people to pay him thousands of dollars. I watched two of his sessions with unhappy wives. I was shocked by the way he attacked these women already suffering from marital woes. Tony totally blamed these wives and considered their husbands blameless. I began to think he was hostile toward women because he was raised by an abusive, alcoholic mother. I expected him to be empathetic and encouraging but I didn’t see him portray these characteristics. I still don’t know why people treat like he is a savior or god.

Brenda, In life we have weak and/or strong confident people. And the strong will always take advantage of the weak. And that's what T.R. does to gain everything he's ever wished for, but without having the genuine credentials. You know there was once a great Herbalist in France called Maurice Messegue. And all his life he fought (legally) against quacks and charlatans. And I don't ever remember him charging any of his patients thousands of dollars. In fact many times he gave free treatments. Now that's the difference between a genuine soul and a charlatan.

I think Tony truly wants to help people, but I also think he's completely out of his mind. I have heard so many stories like the one you just shared, where he uses shock tactics and covert hypnosis to try to jolt people out of their trauma. The problem, is that there is always going a portion of the population who is susceptible to these techniques and do seemingly recover. These miracle cases are used as testimonials and "evidence" that Tony Robbin's method's work, even if it only works on 1 out of 100. It's called survivorship bias.

Tony Robbins was a guy who was clinically depressed in his early thirty’s, one day woke up & became like Superman & now has net worth of half a billion dollars.

Thank you, Dr. Grande. You always point out truth that cuts through spin: I agree Robbins is a good life coach ( , the need for focused goal setting, taking personal responsibility for your life and trying to actively manage your emotional state. ) However, Dr. Grande is correct that Robbins seems to claim he can detect when anyone is lying, a few seconds after meeting them and other magical mental powers. Robbins is good at what he does but he definitely over reaches. Robbins also asks us to emulate people, Michael Jackson for example and others, that are hardly great role models for a happy balanced life. The idea that financial success is, in itself, a the one big goal we should all have it life. We all know, from back stories, scandals and just personal experiences, that people in the 1% of wage earnings hardly have idyllic personal or mental health backgrounds.

Among a lot of exaggerations, one bit of Tony's advice is to be skeptical of experts; the is the best bit of advice he has given.
