Is Transnistria a real country?

Transnistria is a region that considers itself an independent country but is internationally recognized to be part of Moldova. The region has a population of about 400,000 people and is a bit smaller than the state of Delaware.
During the reign of the USSR, Transnistria was part of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic. But after the Soviet Union disintegrated, the region of Transnistria did not want to become part of Moldova or Ukraine and proclaimed its independence.
Moldova, however, did not accept this and invaded the breakaway territory in March 1992. Transnistria, which the help of volunteers from Russia and Ukraine, fought back until July 1992, when a ceasefire was signed.
As a result, Transnistria is defacto-independent. To monitor the ceasefire, Russia sent peacekeeping troops to Transnistria which are still present to this day.
But even today, almost 30 years later, Transnistria is only recognized by three other unrecognized or partially recognized states: Abkhazia, South Ossetia, and Artsakh.

This piece is so inadequate to be completely misleading. Transnistria previous to 1918 had been part of Odessa Oblast since 1700, and when the Russian Empire ended, this territory was briefly part of the Ukraine People's Republic until 1923 when it was separated out as M.A.S.S.R (Moldova Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic) which after the Russians regained Moldova after World War II was joined with that (Moldova was called Bessarabia previously) it was joined with Moldova to make Moldova S. Actually they did want to join Ukraine for some time and initially held talks with the first Ukrainian President to do so, but it didn't go anywhere partially because Ukraine wasn't in an economic or diplomatic position to be annexing territories. You also forgot to mention how the "volunteers" we're directly supported and trained by Russian troops, and those Russian troops eventually became directly involved in the conflict on the Transnistrian side. Thus Russia forced Moldova into signing the ceasefire, and the "peacekeepers" (which for the record are not UN peacekeepers, Russia loves sending troops somewhere and calling them peacekeepers to legitimize its interventions) are effectively a way for Russia to guarantee that Transnistria, whose government it effectively controls, stays within the Russian sphere. The Russians also promised to remove their giant ammo stockpile located on a Russian base there, however haven't done so because it's Russia, and Russia never keeps its word and doesn't understand diplomacy. The fact that you glossed over all these facts and made it look like Russia had nothing to do with the conflict except sending some amount of volunteers says a lot about your objectivity.
