had a chance to translate the manual book of trivium system and general rules of breaking for gold back in 2018. English to Korean, for Coach bboy Octopus(Jinjo) and participant bgirl Yell(Gamblerz). I would say. nothing can be perfect, yet I see some effort in the manual to appreciate the cultural aspect, norms and cutoms we've been keeping it in the battle culture. and also some trial an errors of making it more standard. hence. i think it's meaningful attempt for development in this game.

Dope to see that you've had chances to use your bilingual skills to help further the breaking game! We agree, in the scope of breaking, we are still in the early stages of having a perfect judging system, so a lot of mistakes and failures are necessary to create a successful one!

I think is great to develop a more complete and transparent judging system for Breaking if we're talking about Olympic level. But, as you said, for underground battles we need to keep the old systems. Also I have some doubts about what the judges expect at Olympics. Will they have in mind the flava', the groove, the freshness and all those stuffs that are really difficult to explain with words, but we b-boys and b-girls totally understand? Sometimes I worry about that the risk of Breaking being at the Olympics is to miss the essence of this art. But that's a different debate I think😅 Thanks for sharing your knowledge! I'm honestly down for any system that provides the most transparency to the public. One of the biggest complaints I always see from people who are watching breaking battle competitions for the first time and even people who have watched for years is not understanding why the judges made the decision even if we all generally accept the judges to be the most knowledgeable to be able to decide correctly. Helping the people understand what goes on in the judge's mind is a huge key to bringing people into the scene and uniting the scene by being more clear about the decisions in my opinion

For the Olympics, there should be no category for creativity. Its sports when its in the Olympics. Creativity is way too subjective. IMO, judging should purely or mostly be based on the difficulty and execution of the techniques (breaking down into 3 categories: power/freeze/blowups(50), foot/floorwork(30), toprock(10)) + Artistry/Flow(20) and Musicality(20). Making a total of 130 pts. Judges must be trained thoroughly and have general consensus on the difficulty level of different techniques.. ex) double halo > halo, elbow airtracks > thomas flare, airchair > babyfreeze

i think youd have a very hard time finding many breakers who would want to compete under such rules. maybe youd find a few power movers, but theres a lot of creativity and freedom in power move too. also nowadays there are very few pure power movers anyways. i dont mean this to take a dump on you. but id think that would really destroy breakin as a whole or at least make it completely unrecognizeable. the point of why people want breakin at the olympics is that they want it to elevate breakin. i dont think anyone wants breakin to become a sport
