@@guy_autordie I have Move It but I try to use it as minimum as possible. Its a very handy tool but it feels a little too OP for me sometimes? Also plenty of times I've tried to adjust heights of things and I end up screwing up something completely lol
Ive been subscribed for awhile but this is my first time commenting because I just have to tell you how much this video freaking rocks! This is the first time in I dont know how long that Ive been genuinely bummed when a video ended. To sum up, Ill take all of this you got!
@ Leo, voltei pro cs1.. quero aprender a criar uma cidade lucrativa, e entender como as indústrias (fazendas, etc) funcionam... se tiver alguma dica, eu aceito hehe
after spending months with CS2 watching someone manually draw a grid and the zoning just...works is mind blowing. I like CS2 but it feels like One Step Forwards, Two Steps Back: The Game.
I was wondering why the assets (buildings and trees) looked so good and then I realized I totally forgot the content creator packs existed! Wow they are just so much better than the base game assets.
Hey. On some of your videos, the narrator for traffic man sounds like the same narrator that did the audiobook for the Martian. Anyway. Love the humor. I know skylines is good, but I miss SimCity 4.
The "Just Works" stuff that you're talking about is IMO predictability. When you place your roads, you know what your grid will look like. Grids dont 'flicker'. The water behaves consistently (if not intuitively). The grids don't 'belong' to certain roads in the same way as CS2. The whole thing is largely intuitive, which can't be said for CS2. ALSO, CS1 appears to have been built with 'intention'. The tools you have serve a purpose, and you (the user) can pretty easily know what that purpose is. Compare this to CS2, where the road grid tool is available for train lines and highways. Why are they there? The snapping options also work as you'd expect.
One interesting point, however, is that "Vanilla" Skylines 1 is still pretty far from what it was when it launched. Each content update added items to the base game. Though it was fun, I do remember the static lighting (no day-night) and many other limitations of the original game. I know that C:S 2 has a long way to go, but remembering what C:S 1 was like when it launched, and what it is now, even "vanilla", gives me hope that in a few years, we'll all look back at the rough launch and remember it rather un-fondly as we might recall C:S 1's barebones beginning.
@@CitiesByDiana Absolutely! C:S was the first computer game I put significant time into, and I have played it frequently through the years. There's no doubt it's a wonderful game. I just have a lot of hope that they'll eventually pull through eventually with the sequel, because I deeply want them to succeed despite all of the difficulties.
22:51 Honestly, on paper, the tree-growth mechanic **sounds** cool. But it doesn't work in C:S2 as shipped as well as I think it sounded in their heads.
Vanilla Leisure and Tourism i used to like zoning those near water because you get some extra buildings that spawn like an Irish Pub and out door gym and cafe and some cool hotels, i rarely saw other players on YT use those buildings. This was a Happy video!
One thing is for sure Diana, you have forgotten how to play vanilla Cities Skylines 😄 Apart from forgetting to connect the power line and putting water pipes, you didn't use Dirt Road and lower your Electricity and Water Budgets which helps a lot when starting out a new city and ensures we don't go in the negative or need any loans. Although you did pick on it quickly once you spent few minutes 😄
I know a lot of people like to say well of course it’s good it’s got all these DLCs and free updates, but I remember genuinely being able to boot up CS1 at launch and have a great time. Sure there were bugs, less assets, etc, but the core gameplay was there and it was enjoyable. I struggle to say the same for CS2 at least for me personally.
Yeah I had base game CS with no DLCs for awhile it was fun from the start, mods made it better though but the bones were there..idk cs2 just isn't fun.
Is cs1 fun in 2024? Only if you rush to unlock the roads with the most lanes possible…tired of being car-pilled gas guzzler in a two laned nitemarescape.
Loved watching this, and just seeing the simple joy of getting a city going on the classic game :) Out of curiosity, which visual mods did you use (haven't really done any mod work on this one myself)
i'm using this collection steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3082057939 plus theme mixer 2.5, relight, daylight classic, eyecandy x and Satellite LUT
I may not share all your feelings about CS2 but this really seems like you're having much more fun! No game is fun to watch if the person playing isn't feeling it. Plus, ya know, mental health and all that. :)
I would love to see how the base game Cities Skylines compares to the base game of CS2. I feel like even without expansions, CS1 has more heart and soul than CS2 at its core and that's why we fell in love with it.
Great video Diana - super relaxing too! It completely is possible to make great looking vanilla cities, as you're proving in your video, in fact I prefer to do builds with a self-imposed limit of 100 workshop assets. But what if you're a new player bewildered by the mass of DLC and wondering where you should start? In case there's a few watching new to CS and using this as a starter guide, here's some ideas... First I'd actually prioritise improving the look and variety of the housing, shops and industry to fit the theme you want for the city and for that I'd go for the content creator packs firat and hold off on the bigger DLC expansions until you're comfortable with the base game mechanics. So I'd first choose: 1: European Suburbia / Mid-Century Modern depending on whether you want a European or American city. By painting districts you can choose themes to have buildings spawn from a certain pack. These are superb residential packs, with European suburbia being a little more flexible.Mid-Century for West Coast / Florida builds. 2: Brooklyn & Queens for your denser medium residential. Can still work for European 'new town' builds. 3: Art-Deco. Actually really good for small condos, gated communities and beachside housing. Great with Mid-Century Modern and the Seaside Resorts CCP. 4: Sports Venues. Great for tying neighbourhoods together. These community sporting parks really look great in residential areas. Also includes stadiums. 5: Industrial Evolution. Superb set which will make your industry look a lot more plausible. 6: Shopping Malls - from strip mall districts to the shopping core of small but affluent towns, this can really work well with vanilla commerce. Works beautifully with Plazas and Promenades DLC. 7: Modern City Centre - good for a more unified core city feel. 8: Modern Japan - remakably flexible buildings that add a dose of realism when used as city halls, admin centres, etc. 9: Sky-Scrapers. Actually one of the best packs, but I put this second to last as by the time you get to big cities that can house them you'll have decided whether or not you want to commit. 10: Seaside Resorts for coastal builds. Pair with Mid Century and Art Deco. The rest are worth getting eventually but I'd warn that University City assets spawn randomly and cannot be locked to a district, and so may interfere with any theme your going for. The bigger expansion DLCs you may want to hold off on, excepting Mass Transit which you should grab as it adds so many great transit options. Pick up the Train Stations CCP to go with this so you can big inner city train hubs and little rural stations. Beyond Mass Transit I'd go... 1: Parklife - hugely important DLC for making custom parks of irregular shapes. Making a great city involves crafting individual neighbourhoods with a sense of character, and this is a must for that. 2: Plazas & Promenades - hugely useful for making your central business districts and strip malls. Also has great assets for modern post-war wall-to-wall commercial and residential for city centres. 3: Green Cities DLC. Easy to use and has superb mid-rise and high-rise residential that are simply a must. Commerce is also great for making more affluent shopping areas with its little cafes and hipster stores. 4: Industries. Adds more complexity but great for further theming your cities. Green DLC with foresty pairs well. Mid-Century Modern goes with desert oil towns. Brooklyn & Queens Pennsylvanian for rust belt ore industry towns. 5: Airports. You won't be using this until endgame but this DLC includes ploppable bare concrete which can fill in unsightly gaps between buildings and along with base game parking lots do wonders to convincingly break up your industrial areas. And there you have it. There are many more DLCs but taken roughly in that order vanilla and console players can make great looking builds. Follow Imperatur to see how you can really deep dive the vanilla build mechanics to make something quite wonderful and distinct. And thanks again Diana for these superb videos!
Heck yeah! Also, I plan to completely uninstall and reinstall the original CS, installing only special rowhome assets and a few set pieces that work, electric buses, the NJ Transit trainset, five of my favorite mods and have a blast! I’ll watch your video once I get off work. Can’t wait!
Yeah!!! So exciting. Cant see what you come up with. I love vanilla series! But w that being said I wouldn't be mad if you added QOL mods like forest brush and line tool. Very excitimg!
Really enjoying the video, giving super cozy vibes 💛 Sometimes it's awesome to kinda ... play the game, if you know what i mean. Personally, I usually playing sandbox and care a lot about detailing, about building with purpose, i think a lot about composition of buildings and other assets, road layouts, yada yada yada. But, as I said, sometimes it's great to just leave that behind (at least to a certain extent) and play without overthinking *everything* (which for me is actually quite hard) :D I like how the town is turning out in these early stages ^-^ As we can see, C:S1 even Vanilla is still very very much holding its own, it's a great game ^-^ There's good reason why we all love C:S in general, isn't there? :D I appreciate you putting out C:S1 content again, absolutely love it 💛 I hope that you're having lots of fun and that it'll otherwise also be going really well for you ^-^ Looking forward to the next video :) ALL the best ☕
Yeah it's actually quite fun to get back to basics with a simple (mostly) vanilla build. I'm slowly working on the start to my modded series but it's a massive video so it's gonna be awhile. In the meantime, I wanted to make something super low key with minimal edits etc. (Its all one shot of video with no cuts and I really only added music and cut out some audio of me coughing hahah) I usually have like 200+ cuts per video so this is a HUGE change and is kinda fun every once in awhile hahah
@@CitiesByDiana It is really fun, i love it! I think getting a change of pace from your usual playstyle can sometimes also be a great thing to help you learn new things and refocus on what you really love, if you know what i mean. I absolutely appreciate all the effort you're putting into all your content 🙌❤ I know it is actually quite hard work and especially a huge time investment in many cases, again i really appreciate that, and I also understand that sometimes it's good to get a break from that and be able to do something that is a bit more ... chill for you too. So again, i really hope this is working great for you aswell ^-^ Looking forward to both this AND the future modded series, all gonna be awesome 💛 Thank you ^-^
@@NoMercy8008 ty. It's been a wild week and I didn't expect to make as many waves as I did and I just wanna go back to making cute little city builds on this channel without all the weirdos and the expectation of playing CS2.
@@CitiesByDiana Yeah, I noticed you removed that video and community post and, to be honest, I was a bit worried about you having issues with these kinds of people (again) :/ As i say every time that happen, remember that there's also tons of people genuinely enjoying your videos and appreciating you and the time and effort you put in to this 💛 It's worrying what the community is turning and has turned into especially since C:S2, to be frank, but I think that also means it's even more important to keep up the positivity and to keep supporting eachother as much as possible. As you say, i really hope we all can eventually go back to just enjoying whichever game we like and be creative and share inspiration and all that. We here for you, never forget 🫂 Again, ALL the best 💛
@@NoMercy8008 ty 🥰 the gamesradar article brought out some trolls so I had to private it for a bit.....just waiting for things to blow over before I let it go back up. I never intended it to start this huge conversation but I'm glad it did and I did support others in doing so. But I made it first and foremost for those who watch the channel explaining my sudden change in content.
The base game highest-density residential is what always looked pretty goofy IMO. That said, it was and still is a fun game, so it's easy to excuse. I was also OBSESSED with the high-density residential on the Green Cities pack. I loved the way the 1-tile wide lots fit in so many households and could make row house neighborhoods. It was always funny to me how massive high-density office lots had so few jobs on that pack, but zoning tiny little high-density residential buildings could easily overcrowd a city even without population mods.
@@CitiesByDiana HIGHLY recommend building districts with the 1 tile wide Green Cities high density residential buildings if you've never tried it, it's ridiculous LOL, and can look pretty interesting if you sprinkle in some of the larger lots
@@CitiesByDiana There’s so much about CS2 that I want in CS1, but there’s a base vibe about the first game that somehow got lost in translation for the sequel.
I tried hard cs2.. i'm done with it by now... just came back to cs1 last week.. and now i will follow this new city you started because i have to learn how to make money, undestand how make industries work, and.. how use all the DLCs I just buy heheh.. see ya!! (Sorry my english not good)
A couple observations as I watch along: 1. I totally agree about how whimsical the game looks and how much more natural and realistic the assets are, as opposed to the cartooniness of CS2. 2. I know this is vanilla but I'd suggest adding prop line tool to speed up your detailing in the interest of you making your video quicker to produce. 3. I'm glad you took my recommendation for a build along. Lots of RU-vidrs do this but right away yours has its own unique vibe because of how you narrate and the background music. It has a coziness and intimacy to it. I also like that you're not afraid to show us you making mistakes as you go along. Great stuff!
5. I agree with what you said about how good the vanilla game is. Apart from 25 tiles unlock and prop line, I pretty much play vanilla and the only real headache I have with the game's mechanics is how hard it is to build highway exits. That's my only problem with vanilla CS1. 6. LMAO @ saying hi to the probably war criminal. Hahahahaha 7. Yeah Baobobs (sounds like bayobob) are East African. Remember they used to have them in The Wild Thornberries?
8. The awkward moment you realised you plopped boob plazas at a high school with tons of horny teenagers 9. Kinda dark propping a graveyard in the backyard of an old folks home 😂
It's Thursday morning, and I'm at work, listening to a chilled out game of CS1 occasionally interrupted by a cat. Life is good. More videos like this, please.
I checked your channel once bc of the njb podcast but you were doing cs2. I was pretty exited to check it out again coming "from the butthole of internet" and finding you were doing cs1 content. But now your community note saying you were moving back to cs1 is gone. I have no interest in seeing cs2 content, and now I have no idea where you're going.
