Did Kobe play an 8 quarter game when he scored 81? Wilt also scored a 79 point game and had a total of 32 sixty+ points games. Kobe is in second place with 6. Not even in the double digits. Wilt averaged 50.4 points the season that he scored 100 in a game

The 100-Point Game happened specifically because the rest of his team wanted to see if it could be done. His teammates fed him the ball and did everything they could to help him. There is no reason to doubt the event when all of the details are known.

The biggest problem with this game is that video tape was in its infancy. Everything had to be done with film and that was expensive. Very few sports events from that era were ever filmed and the ones that were filmed were done with just one or two cameras. If you used two cameras, splicing the film together was an ardous task that often took hours. We get very spoiled in this day of Internet and the mass of free video editing software out there. If you did want to film an NBA game in those days, a three-hour game would take 18 rolls of film at a minimum. The film alone would cost thousands of dollars for black and white and over ten thousand dollars for color. The TV Stations that did cover NBA games just used broadcast cameras and did not record anything. I should also note that in the NBA in those days, only Wilt Chamberlain, Swede Holbrook, and Walter Dukes were seven feet tall. Walt Bellamy was six-feet eleven inches tall while Bill Russell and Darrell Imhoff (who had to guard Chamberlain) were six-foot ten inches. Now, every Power-Five College team has a couple seven foot players.

What bothered me most about the debate on this show is how nobody here knew anything about Wilt’s 100 point game. Not one of them ever looked up the box score out of curiosity? For people doubting: This was in the era where you could take a running start and just dunk from the free throw line after getting fouled. Wilt was the only player in the league that could actually utilize this strategy due to his freakish athleticism; the league changed the rule because of him so that you had to stay behind the line during the shot. If you see the box score, he scored 28 out of 32 free throws that game. Obviously he wasn't shooting them regularly. But with that information, it's not that insane to think he could score another 72 points if his team was just feeding him all game. Also, the final score of 169 - 147 indicates there was really no defense being played. Someone of Wilt's capabilities against inferior opponents who didn't play defense -- it's a surprise he didn't score 100+ more than once.
@chrisolivo6591

He was a horrible free throw shooter. That was not a rule when he played in the NBA. Look at some of his 60+ point games, this was like the only one where he shot well from the free throw line. He could have had a few 90 point games if he could actually shoot a decent free throw percentage.

@@vd5564 You're right, I mixed the timelines up. The NBA outlawed the free throw dunk in 1960, which was Wilt's 2nd year in the league. The 100 point game was in 1962. He must have just had a crazy lucky free throw shooting night to facilitate 100 points.

Whoever does not believe Wilt scored 100…those drugs should be illegal, big time..this sudden controversy? There is no controversy..you had over 4,000 witnesses to the fact..plus the official statistician and as he neared 100…and was tired..they counted down every point with that court microphone..and then…there’s the old audio..and leading up to this game..against a poor Knicks lineup with a lot of backups playing ..Wilt had 4 consecutive 60 point games..plus the fact that Wilt still has 72 records in the books waiting for anyone to approach them…and is tied with other records..

@DavidLongo22
@DavidLongo22 Год назад
@@NotKD35 That's far from unique. Athletes can only be compared to their competition at their time. Would Jim Brown, in his size & weight then, be as dominant now as then? Probably not. That said though, people like that drive themselves to be that much better than those around them, so my guess is that he'd have been much more muscular today. Same goes for Wilt. I stand by my comment that he might well be the most dominant athlete ever, being compared the only way one can; against his or her contemporaries. Nobody can play against those that don't exist (at their time).

These guys are clueless. Not only was there a 3 second rule, the key was enlarged specifically to make it harder for Wilt to rebound. Once Wilt hit about 80 his teammates deliberately tried to feed him m to score. There’s an entire book written about that game. Wilt averaged over 50 that season.

I clearly remember the 100-point night, there was never any doubt about it. Well, now maybe there is, because of the sea of fast mouths who need attention. Wilt - by far the greatest athlete of the 20th century, surpassing Jim Thorpe from earlier days. Muhammad Ali was never even in that discussion, since many felt Wilt could have easily decked him in the ring. What about Bo Jackson? The only serious contender and a good debate subject, a reasonably close second-place, IMO. What about today's jocks? They're all measured by salary, not talent, so you have a new winner every year. Yawn.

I always thought it was the most incredible sports stat in history. The more I hear about it though, maybe not MOST incredible. Having the team feed you the ball and rumors of the opposing team "relaxing" on D? Stuff like that kinda chips away at how monumental the stat was. It also makes the fact it wasn't filmed more suspicious. Not saying it wasn't a big deal. Just saying he definitely had some help with this one, it wouldn't happen if it were a regular season game today. Watching 9 players help 1 player reach 100 might be fun live, but to everyone casually watching, it would look cheap. Social media would tear the game apart.

I recall reading some details that he was actively going after 100. The game wasn't close and his team was allowing the other team to score and/or fouling in order to get more possessions for Wilt. If all those shenanigans are true, then I value Kobe's 81 more.
@MovieGuy666

Kobe's 81 game was against a bad raptors team and his teammates were also feeding him the ball.
@rshinsec
@rshinsec Год назад
@@MovieGuy666 Kobe's team was garbage. They were losing for most of the game. Feeding him the ball on normal possessions is different than creating additional possessions by intentionally not playing correctly. Not sure how you missed that.
