I think part of what’s holding up TWOW is that now that the series is wrapping up he has to actually plan for the ending and not just write in his typical “gardening” style, so he probably has done *at least* some work on ADFS.
Well when he published a Feast for Crows and Dance of Dragons, the next books were almost half done and would be coming along soon. And the wait would be much shorter than for the last one. 😂
Mean, it’s been 13 years, winds is definitely coming out at some point. Probably by 2026. The thing is will we ever see Dream of Spring? I think we will, I think Dream will be absolutely easier to write than Winds, and if George stays healthy the entire series could be finished early 2030’s.
That's under the assumption that there will actually be only 7 books. My prediction is that, similar to what happened with ADWD, the version of WOW we will get won't be the whole story, but around 2/3 of what would be required to finish the series in one more book. Then it will be impossible to fit the remaining story in ADOS, which in any case won't ever get released because it will then have become as difficult to write as what you are saying WOW is.
@FirstSynapse My theory is he scrapped a lot of his work and rewrote towards a different ending when the show ending released and everyone hated it. He was probably a good bit through Winds of Winter and went "ah fuck they all hate it, D&D fucked it, I fucked it becsuse I didn't stay ahead of the show" and at that point the ending he had planned was basically in concept the same as what the show did so everyone would hate it even if he did it good. The only option is to rewrite for a different ending. But either way, there is a possibility George actually sat down and said alright no more gardening and adding more bullshit, I'm gonna move the plot as quick as possible and make the book work, if he did that then Winds and Dream might happen
@ricebix I seriously doubt the ending he had planned was anywhere close to what D&D did. I also mostly doubt he had (or currently has) an actual ending in mind that he was actively pursuing. I'm sure he has always had some general ideas about the ending and maybe some of those had a faint similarly to GoT, but I'd say his main issue is that whenever he keeps developing each character's plot, he realises the ending he imagined does not work. And the problem is that his whole story is so absurdly complex that he is not currently able or willing to design and write a good ending that would fit all the narratives.
I don’t even care about a decent ending anymore. I just want an ending at this point. If he just wrote the exact same thing that happens in the show, I’d say it would be a top 2 fantasy series ever, with a divisive ending.
He may be wrapping up The Winds of Winter, but he definitely isn’t going to be starting A Dream of Spring anytime soon. He stated that he plans on writing more Dunk & Aeg as well as Fire & Blood II (which I assume will be called The Death of the Dragons) before he starts ADoS
Nope, neither. The next Dunk story is the winterfell one, and Fire and Blood 2 covers Robert's Rebellion, so they're both on hold until the things they spoil are revealed in the main series. Which may be tWoW for Dunk, but probably after aDoS for Fire and Blood.
Nah it needs to be TWOW I don't need a dry telling of the Targaryens "the world of ice and fire" coffee table book honestly covers enough@@stephaniec9539
Holy shit i cannot believe i am actually writing this and not talking myself out of it but my theory is that he is finishing both books right now and gonna duo drop them to do what he has done the entire series and subvert our expectations
In a perfect world he's been secretly writing and completing winds of winter and a dream of spring together. That could potentially make us forgive him for the delay. Potentially
He is gonna come out with any other book besides TWOW 😂😅 and dont forget my man out here starting a dunk and egg show with like 6 of those stories still to finish soooooo i can almost garuntee other peopleare gonna step up and finish the rest of his stories
I just came here four months later to tell you to move on and not be delusional. George won't finish this series, he doesn't want to do it. I would love to see him being honest with all of us but that's not the case. I loved to read all five books but I already accepted that I will never read the end of this story......It's time to move on folks
If we assume Winds is taking forever because George has to figure out how to set up the endgame of every character, then Dream could hypothetically be much faster to write because George will already have everything mapped out (no more gardening)
He’s never even suggested that he would do so. I’d tell you to do less drugs but you look like too much of a nerdy little kid for that, so instead I’d suggest growing the fuck up and joining us in reality. Same goes for OP and his idiotic theories about the old man’s twitter account that I very much doubt he knows how to operate.
He said he was going to do one or a few more dunking egg short stories and then do the next iteration of fire and blood and then work on dream of spring. But he 100% said he's doing one of those before the next book though. Also my theory was 2023 by February he was going to have an announcement saying it was done or it was in the editor's hands. But then he said in February of 2023 November of the year and I'm like all right I'll give it till November and then he's like February of 2024 and I'm just like all right I'll give it till then but past that I'm not even hoping anymore I'm just leaving it up to the gods lol I had hope for a while but it comes when it comes
Only just began reading the first book, and as a fan of the television show and other Fantasy.. im already anticipating him to release winds of winter.. but then it coukd take 5 - 10 years until we see the final book after that😂
Not hoping for anything at this point, but my theory is he already finished winds of winter and is trying to finish a dream of spring before he drops book six
Good stories have endings. He better put down the Ben&Jerry's and start typing, because a massive coronary is inevitable and he has at least 2 more books to write. At the current pace he will have to live to be 100+. There are no morbidly obese 100 year olds.
I’ve accepted that ever if we do get WOW he’s never gonna finish the series. He’s 75 and doesn’t seem particularly interested in completing his magnum opus
After 13 years I don't really feel one way or the other about it lol. If we get it late this year or early next, okay cool bonus. But I'm not expecting anything. No point.
I just wished george would understand that its not good if you work on multible projects at the same time. Asoiaf is the MAIN STORY so he should focus on this book series FIRST before he starts new side storys like fire & blood. He could have finished the last 2 books years ago, if he had focused solely on them and AFTER they were finished he still could have written all the other side storys. Its no wonder why he loses interest to finish asoiaf.
I dont know why people genuinely believed it wouldn't be finished. Honestly thw size of his books and his age and the amount of other projects he has going on and covid aswell it hasnt been that long. Its like how when video games got bigger they took a lot longer to make.
