Is Yellowstone an Unbridled Masterpiece? | Yellowstone Seasons 1-4 Review 

There are so many wasted sub plots in the show, Lee’s death, Kayce killing Monica’s brother, Tate finding dinosaur bones in season 1

I feel like I’m alone on this, but I just can’t stand Beth. She’s so angry and doesn’t seem to have any redeeming qualities anymore.

Was I the only one that wanted Jamie to run Beth over when she threatened to steal his child in season 5?

beth is a horrible character. i don't get why people hate on monica. she's totally benign to me. beth on the other hand, has just become more and more psychotic and just gross. i'm in the middle of S5 now and i honestly just don't even know why i'm still watching it. i've watched 1883 and am also watching 1923 and i think Taylor Sheriden has pretty much shown us everything he's got and is just recycling all the tropes now.

The show was good in the first 3 seasons, then it became a joke. Rewatching seasons 1-3, I don't understand why Jaime is a bad guy after all the shit he's taken from John and Beth. They care so little about Jaime while depending on his legal expertise, yet have the nerve to be angry when he tries doing his own things.

Cole Hauser, the actor who plays head wrangler Rip, is outstanding. He can convey emotion w/o hardly lifting an eyebrow. His is the most complex & well played character within this entire series*. As a ♀️ I love his physical power tempered with his empathy & intelligence. *There are many outstanding actors in Yellowstone. Pinning down the best is, for me, a visceral & emotional response. Costner is great as is the woman who plays Beth. But then there's the skinny bald kid and the ex-jailbird. I want all of their stories to end well. Maybe THIS is what makes Yellowstone so compelling. We get to know the workers, not just the bosses. Yellowstone is like the PBS series Rome which follows the storylines of two legionnaires. Their lives are just as interesting as Anthony or Julius Ceasar's.

I personally hate Beth. Monica is whiny but, Beth is nonsensical. You can only like Beth if you haven't dealt with that type of person in real life. If you have, you'd despise her.

Yellowstone, in spite of my annoyance as an actual Westerner, is an excellent series. We really do not want any more rich & famous building "no trespass" McMansions in our wide open spaces. If you want to help, rent a hotel, rich people, help buy up private land then give it to the Nature Conservancy.

I got really hooked but then dropped out early in S4. Around that point it totally jumped the shark. 1. Beth is not a well written character. She's one-dimensional and every scene with her in S1-2 is totally predictable: she walks into the room, spits poison, and walks away with everyone shocked. Trying to make her a maternal figure in S4 was implausible. 2. Jamie is unevenly presented: we mostly get him crumbling internally and agonized, with a few scenes of him being aggressive, but he exists mostly as a punching bag. 3. The addition of Carter and Jamie's bio dad were classic shark-jumping instances. The other characters are pretty good (including Monica), and the production overall is terrific, including the acting. My main quibble about the writing is that John has way too many cornball "the ol' ways is the best ways" lines, which are pretty tiresome and also kind of inconsistent with his sociopathic side. One thing I really liked was the depiction of lawlessness and treating legitimate political authority as pure surface, including legal authorities like commissioners and politicans who believe that. That is genuinely true of much of that part of America.

just started watching, I was a former Jackaroo in the Central North of NSW in Australia, made me fell a little homesick, damn what a great show so far only on season 1 so we will see how it goes

Honestly, I like the main plot line of the show, but I feel like this show is directed by a committee of producers who can’t make up their minds about who are the targeted demographic of the show, instead of an artist😅. Like seriously half of the air time of this show is spent on redundant skits to display and promote certain values of the producers that has no real contribution to character growth or story development. I feel bad for the original writer of the show to see their work being so horribly delivered.

I love this series very much, What an excellent performance of all of them, cowboys life, ranch, horses, mountains and especially Background music is heart touching.

i watched 10 minites with a woman telling a board room of old men they are useless then i turned it off

1923 is getting a second season and we're getting a spinoff about a family from new york. also season 5 part 2 will be the end of yellowstone

The 1st 2 seasons are worth it. After that don’t bother. Just pretend the series ends after 2 seasons.

The show reminds of Dallas with John Dutton being JR Ewing, Rip = Ray, Kayce = Bobby Ewing, Monica = Pamela, Beth = Sue Ellen with a brain and Jamie being more or less Cliff Barnes, the eternal loser. The Dallas series also had the family living together on a big ranch. If you liked Dallas, you will love Yellowstone as well.

Seasons 1 and 2 were great. After that the show is a mess.

In seasion 4 in which I just started how come they don't even mention the kids who lost his mother when Kevin Costner helps change the flat tyre , do their stories don't matter, rather then a kid who loses his dad to drugs ,some closure on the Innocent like Beth's assistant's

Glad this was the first review of this show I checked out. Definitely going to give it a shot.

Show's been cancelled because Costner is leaving and the story was going nowhere in the fifth season. Whoever is thinking abiut starting the show now should keep this in mind. Anuway even if you still want to watch Yellowstone do the same as BC Videos and watch the prequel 1883. And if you dont want to wath Yellowstone still watch 1883. It's a beautiful show that stands on it's own with no context of Yellowstone needed. Only 10 episodes so even if you end up not liking it you won't waste your time.

I just recently binged this (all the way through the current mid-finale of season 5). Overall it’s a great series, and I understand the hype. Season 2 IMO was the absolute best. So intense, and the finale kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. The first 3 seasons were gold, but it has started to lose a little steam. I do hope that it ends at season 5, or season 6 if there is one. It’s started to lose its magic a little. Can’t have too much of a good thing.

This show is kind of a mixed bag, IMO. A lot of quality stuff that's really good, but there's also a lot of corny, soap opera type BS too. Masterpiece seems to have become a very overused term nowadays. For those that don't mind a disjointed narrative with a lack of resolution and more of a focus on creating drama for dramas sake, this may still be enjoyable, but those looking for more realism and cohesion in plot points will likely be left wanting. This is almost like if the same people who made Buffy & Angel decided to make a modern day western, but then also threw in copious amounts of political & business management intrigue. I'd like to say this is an 8/10 effort, but too many silly, half explained scenarios really took it down a bit for me personally. Again, those who can suspend their disbelief and do not require thoughtful explanations for a myriad of unresolved plots, this may be more well received. Final verdict: 7/10. An entertaining watch with compelling characters, but a focus on creating abundant artificial drama & loose ends rather than creating believable scenarios with satisfying explanations hinders this show greatly. Too many instances to list without spoiling significantly, but nearly every episode had something that made me wonder WTF is that about, lol! Many times I thought I might get explanations a bit later, but the vast majority were never addressed, and those that were were often times done so poorly, IMO.

I only watched the first couple episodes but Beth was annoying me so much, and the acting of the actress was bothering me. It's one of the reasons I chose to not continue with it.. should I give it another chance? Perhaps I should start with the prequel?

I started watching, the landscape and photography of the series is amazing, Costner is excellent, however I cannot root for any of the characters. So much evil and it feels that there is no an appropriate more evil counter to them to make me feel entertained. Not worth watching, if you like the place you can watch Nat Geo.

Beth character just makes me really angry when I watch the series, and she is the reason I will quit after season 2. I cannot understand why she is played as a hero when she is a sociopath.

Not sure if I agree with the loyd Daryl comparison but I kinda see where your coming from. I'd say Daryl is probably closer to rip.

Not sure if I hate it or love it yet. Into season one episode 4 and a barrel of laughs it is not. It is also very violent at times and definitely ain't much fun. I'll get through the first series I would think but it seems almost rudderless and as if they wrote each episode about ten minutes before the cameras rolled. No lighter shades, no brilliant writing. The West Wing it most certainly is not.

Monica and Beth both annoy me 1st of all casey had to save his brother and his own life, but she just leaves him high and dry, I'm only in s1 so far Beth annoys me mostly because she so angry all our most of the time

This review is exactly what you get when you do something without much thought before. As far as reviews go, this was pretty bad. You really brushed over characters at surface level with 0 interest and making comparisons to one show. If the best character description is "He/She is like this character from this other show". better luck with next one

How is Beth the best character? She’s so annoying, probably the worst part of the show as I went into seasons 4 and 5. Best character is probably Jamie or Rip. Jamie deserves better.

This show was effing HORRIBLE and I can't fathom why people like it other than unhealthy mindsets and relationships being normalized for people in society so they don't actually see how horrible this show really is.

This show is absolutely the worst Kevin Costner has ever been in hands down. This plot was all over the place and never landed on a damn point, same repetitive Kevin is a hero and solves all through out the season without any other story lines explored really. I got through about 3 episodes before having to just skim the rest . Terrible writing.

Nope...not a masterpiece. Real cowboys clean up like that but they never get the livestock smell out of their clothes. 🙃 Nice try, though.
