Is Your BJJ Academy A Great Value Or A Ripoff?

The academy I train and assistant instruct at in Southern Ohio is a tremendous value. There are classes M-F at 6 am for an hour(3 curriculum 2 advanced). Tuesdays & Thursdays 11am (curriculum). Monday, Wednesday, Friday (6pm curriculum 1 hour, 7pm open mat 1/2 hour, 7:30 advance class) Tue&Thur Muay Thai for an hour at 6pm. We also have kids classes M-F Saturday open mat (2 hours) Videos of the entire curriculum Videos of yoga flows for BJJ Videos of standing self defense We are still adding more value and we only charge $95 per month for adults and $55 per month for kids and you get unlimited access to all of this. We are about an hour away from all other gyms and all of the ones that surround this charge around $150 a month for only three classes per week. Value is definitely important when looking for a good academy to join. Great video Ryan thank you!

This is a good subject! I'm a white belt with 5 Gis. Trust me weight and quality matters. I'm heat sensitive.

Not sure how to get this to you. But a topic I thought of that you could shed some light on is. Privates. How do the work behind the scenes? I'd tried different schools and it seems they have to ask the owner or head professor for approval. I get the price depends on the areas cost of living but a blue belt that teaches classes charging the say as the striped black belt seems off. Does the lead get a cut?

For what jiujitsu charges..Thae maximum..For an hour class a school that does 30 to 45 min "warm ups"? That watering down the class and thats ripping people off

Video question: If a student does not have a gym/school in their area that subscribes to the traditional mindset of a self defense foundation to jiu-jitsu/does not share some of the same philosophies as the JJGF, and is predominately a competition based gym, and does not have a curriculum or linear teaching approach, what are some good ways for the student to remain respectful to their instructors while also still getting the best information to have a well-rounded skill set? I.e. should they just forego a self defense aptitude and follow their instructor’s philosophy, or purchase a curriculum such as Gracie University/Rickson’s SDU/Kama jiu-jitsu online course and train on their own on the side? This seems it might complicate or confuse the student to be learning multiple modalities simultaneously. Also, not getting in-person classes, and only online courses doesn’t seem ideal either. What are your thoughts on the topic?

I am having issues about real martial arts value, I was a professional long time ago and the motivation for training or fighting or competition is foundation principles not money. The poor person has to improve any way they can any where they can. It is not something you can buy with money. That's not jiujitsu. Are they paying for cauliflower ears gi burns and sweating?

Bjj the price's are crazy in certain schools for the linage of the school .. i grew up training judo was lucky my coach his only job was teaching judo had been to the jr Olympics.. had lived in Japan got a injury but found a kosen judo school and could train nea waza .. so every Thursday for a hour and 30min it was just neawaza..is used to be 3 pound a class no monthly membership.. but now its monthly payments you dont go its still coming out ypur bank.. i train bjj im a purple belt.. but grew up training judo had kids two boys from 5 and age 4 they were training judo.. then it changed to monthly payments lucky my oldest by now is a sponsored athlete two time national champion.. so trains for free at the national squad centre my youngest.. now plays football and tbh he was maybe more gifted at grappling.. but if i trained bjj under some of those monthly prices and also had to pay my kids .. and comps travel hotels ect .. for there comps ..then go on holidays but still having 3 payments for bjj coming out ..at the prices some gyms charge i would be struggling where as going to grappling wasn't like that .. now its the hip thing but the demand for bjj means gyms can charge a high price they will get students young kids class.. but alot of talented kids from a family that haven't got money.. to pay for there kid's to all go to bjj travel to tournaments pay for gradings ect .. they will end up at a sambo gym or thai boxing.. bjj will be for the ritch.. maybe thats the model and why the poor kids oe people trained lutra livra.. Helio Gracie didn't teach the poor.. fadda did but some did teach the poor trained different systems George Gracie.. they say he wasn't into building an empire and monetising his own martial art Gracie jiu-jitsu and that was the best.. the Gracie's and Machado's got in with the stars when they went to the USA.. teaching actors orher martial arts legends chuck Norris.. al Bundy has been a blackbelt for decades..they have made a fortune from bjj.. because its from the source there bjj is the best 🤷 Rigan Machado and his brother train actors aston kutcher Roger trains dan hardy and Russell brand.. the guy from Facebook mark Zuckerberg one of the ritchest men in the world is now obsessed with bjj.. so they can charge they guys a fortune.. but somewhere in a small gym in Brazil theres young kids getting good training and there poor .. but can train if there coach charged Machado price's he would have no students he does it for the love of the art.. terre jose aldo lots of kids that grew up poor but trained bjj and it helped them in life ..the nog brothers.. theres 100s of them.. if they were born in America to Brazilian parents there father just worked.. mother watched the kuds.. they would never have been near a bbj gym.. bjj is for the ritch now most gyms especially if its Gracie connected

Never regretted paying a premium price to receive a premium level of service or good.

Not every school has a video library available. Even if they have videos, I doubt they are as good as Kama videos.

the one i went to is 120 a month and he doesnt do stripes idk if hes legit or a scam but he has favoritism and doesn't talk as much as he should and we are same age 29
