Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I really appreciate the efficient production-value of the video; only the relevant information is a relatively short length of time. I also like your design and how you minimized the bill of materials without compromising structural integrity. I need to see if your design will work on my pretty large slope. Can you give an update on how your fence is doing with respect to reliability ~2 years later? Is there anything you would change? Thanks again!

Todd! Thank you so much for the kind words about this video. I appreciate you and knowing that my effect (as little as it may be) helps someone out there. As for the condition of the fence 2 years later. It's never been stronger and looks as good as new. Everything is tight and solid as a rock. As for your particular slope, yes, that all depends, and this may not work in your situation. As for your other question if I would change anything. I actually would. After the video, I thought about ice accumulating on the bottom slit where the fence goes into.I didn't want the ice to split the wood so I simply drilled 1/4 inch holes along the bottom to simply allow the water to drain. It's an easy adjustment to make the fence work longer. Also with how it's designed, these panels are very easy to take out and replace/fix if necessary. I know that nothing lasts forever and wanted my fence system to be easily fixed and I think I accomplished that with this design. Anyhow, I hope this helps you and again, thanks for the questions and the support. It does mean a lot. I hope you have a great day!

I really like how you fixed the problem of fencing on a slope edge. My old dog pen was on uneven ground which led to loads of rock at the bottom. Bad side was the dogs dug out often plus the rocks seemed to harbor snakes which I lost one dog from a snake bite. That pen got torn out a few years back and I've been thinking of fencing the back yard in which has a steeper slope on one side. This video is an excellent solution to solving that issue so thanks so much for the info of how to fix that problem. 👍

Hey thanks Silver! Sorry about your pup due to a snake. That’s horrible! I know if I lost my little guy I’d be a wreck :( anyhow, yea the solution worked really good. And it ties in nicely to the rest of the fence which we’re happy with. Luckily he’s not a fence digger, but that fence goes pretty far in, so I’m not too worried, but I definitely keep an eye on it :) thanks again! And I love hearing more about you, refreshing :)

Thanks for the awesome video! this is going to be great for my garden! I do have a quick question... do you have any issues with water settling in the channel that you created for the hog wire to set in?
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser Год назад
Hey Rachael! Thanks for the comment and support! As for water collecting, I do have some water collecting in the bottoms of some of my boards. I like you, was a bit concerned and over looked this point. I was worried if it froze that it would split the board but that never happened. The ice had a place to go and never caused an issue. I did however on a sunny day in the winter, drilled some I/4 inch holes on each side of the channel on the bottom board. This gave the water a place to drain. They are on the side where you can’t see it from the outside of the fence. If I would do it all over again, I would drill holes at the very bottom of the board every few feet or so for drainage, and you wouldn’t see the holes from any side at that point. I hope this helps and thanks again for coming by and commenting. We absolutely love our fence and our dog likes it even more :) take care and ask any other questions you may have. Good luck :)

Hi Stoney, I appreciate the work that went into this video. I was wondering at what angle is the Hog Wire Fence panel on the steep slope from the back Hog Wire Panels already installed. It looks like it's about 135 degrees from the back panels. And are the Kreg screws just screwed into the 4 x 4 post at that angle or is there a wedge shaped piece between the panel and the post? Thanks again. This will really help to keep my Fur Buddy in the yard.
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser Год назад
Hey Russ! Thank you so much for commenting and asking some questions. I really appreciate it. As for your first question. That seems about right. As for your second, no wedges were needed. The screws were long enough to go through to the 4x4. Now looking from the back side, there is a gap that is wedge shaped, but no one goes back there so it doesn’t bother me. The front is nice and flush though and looks good. I hope that answered your question and good luck to you. Let me know if you need anything else! Thanks again for the support! Very nice of you

@StoneyCreekSparkchaser
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser 3 месяца назад
Hey Raul! Thank you and yes it’s still holding up. I can see a few screws that need a quick retorque but the pocket hold system is holding up just fine. There’s no bowing of the wood, no boards cracking, no fading and the metal wire fencing still looks brand new. So yea, it’s good to go, but remember, like all outdoor building projects (fences included) yearly maintenance is always needed. As for the horizontal look vs the vertical look, I think either will look good. It just depends on the look you’re going for. I hope this helps, and good luck!

@StoneyCreekSparkchaser
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser 3 месяца назад
Hey Jeremy! I completely understand those concerns and they really could happen. Along with water getting trapped in there and freezing, thus splitting the board in two. Luckily, I haven’t had any problems these past 2 years. There is some water that stays, but I have seen it come out. Also in some some of the boards, I actually added 1/4 weep holes and that helps drain the water out. Anyway, I just wanted to point out some work around but yes… you are not wrong with those thoughts Jeremy. Thanks again for the comment and support!

Jeff! Morning! Ok I got the info you requested. For the stain, I used Thompsons WaterSeal Semi-Transparent in the color of Chestnut Brown. The color will vary, based on the wood you put it on. My 2x4’s were pretty a little darker so it gave me a darker look, which I like. What I’d do if I was in your situation… I’d also get some black stain and maybe just try mixing in a little bit in the container or something and see how it looks. I remember doing that when I first did this too, but ultimately just went with the Chestnut brown. It’ll lighten with time. As for the black paint. I used Behr exterior paint and it’s just flat black. I didn’t want any sheen so that why I went with that. Oh and I got the cheapest paint as well. I wasnt going to put big money in painting posts. Anyhow, I hope this helped! Good luck and I appreciate the comments and support!

Nice fence. Thanks for sharing. On the removable sections, have you ever built a removable gate? Do you have gate hardware suggestions?
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser Год назад
Hey Janet! Thank you so much for coming by and asking that question. So I have built many gates, mostly walk-in gates so no more than 4 feet wide. I used the same hooks in this video but with bigger eyes, all from tractor supply. As for gate hardware (latches) I just go to Home Depot and get whatever one fits the decor. Tractor supply does have some as well, but they are a bit more simple. If you build a gate with the hook and eyes concept it will always be easy to remove. Just unlatch the gate lock and lift out the gate. I hope this helps and if I misunderstood your question, go ahead and ask again and I’ll try better! Thanks again and I hope you have a wonderful night :)

I've a question - why tier the fence instead of having it flow with the land? If we can make sloped railing for stairs, surely we can make sloped panels for our yards? Besides it being more labor intensive, is there a reason why this isn't done? I'm completely ignorant in fence building and am just trying to understand.
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser 3 месяца назад
Great question and it really comes down to personal preference. You can most definitely slope the fence and have it follow with the land but a lot of people tend to do tiered or stepped fence systems because the fence material itself sits parallel and looks better to the eye then having it follow the contour of the land. But like I said, there is no wrong way :) thank you so much for the question and I hope you are having a great day :)

@StoneyCreekSparkchaser
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser Год назад
@@jeffcarter1641 hey Jeff! I would recommend 8 feet. That’s kind of standard but it really depends on the length of hog wire you can get. I believe the length I used through out my project were 16 feet so I was able to get 2 panels per one hog wire length. It also depends on your lumber size. I choose 8 feet again with that because I didn’t want to waste lumber. I do believe my posts on center were just under 8 feet, that way I knew I wasn’t going to come up short. My fence was around 260 feet long when I did it. It took some time to build, especially cutting the slots on each board and staining them but I worked through the repetition and conquered the job. It really looks good and performs well. I have some other videos showing the fence as well and how I built it so maybe those will help you too. Thanks again Jeff and good luck on your project!
