This is a great idea. My grandmother placed egg shells in a mason jar, filled the jar with water, and used it to water her houseplants. She grew beautiful plants, including the largest Christmas cactus I have ever seen in person.

Yes I think the houseplant soil or seed starting mixes don't have enough nutrients and are full of fillers. So the extra calcium, acid etc is necessary for them to flourish especially in forced air homes.

@@creatingmygarden My grandma never used potting soil. She threw yard clippings, vegetable & fruit peelings out under the apple tree and used the dirt for all her plants. It makes me wonder if we should go back to the old ways.

It's dying because there are multiple plants in an itty bitty space. You could have kept the greenery, cut off the buds and old leaves, then gently separated each plant. Usually miniature roses brought from a grocery store are packaged like that. You can get two or more plants from that pot. Right there, it seems you have 4. After separating, you would then gentle remove the soil from the roots and spray a little peroxide on them. This will prevent any disease spreading into there new home. Next you can pot them up in their own containers or keep them in one container, just upgrade the size. Sprinkle a little rose fertilizer or some osmocote and water deeply. Your roses will thrive. My grocery store just put some on sale for $3 and change, I am about to stock up lol. Happy Gardening!

Great tips thanks mine are already planted in my garden and doing well. Love the peroxide tip! It’s fun to get a great deal on mini roses they are super beautiful I have been growing them for years. I always put them out in the garden and cover them for the winter cause of my cold climate their easy to cover when their so small.

@aliciaeguia I did a video on that to show how I protect them check it out. It’s very detailed. I think it is in my first year playlist. It works really well and others have used it to protect their roses.

Has anyone in a zone 3 have any luck overwintering theses style of miniature roses in as a bedding plant? I have tried only once. It was a nice looking plant throughout the summer. Flowered and everything. But unfortunately didn’t survive the first winter. I thinking not hardy to my area. Even if not in a suitable growing zone. It was nice to get some more life out of the small little rose. Cheers thanks!

@creatingmygarden 4 месяца назад
Yes I mulch them heavily for winter and don’t uncover till all danger of frost has past. One year I used wood chips from a tree we took down and landscape fabric I lost one rose that year then last year I used cedar wood chips and landscape fabric. It seems to work pretty good if you stabilize the mulch with landscape fabric then put something on all the edges to anchor it down so the wind doesn’t get underneath. Wind is the enemy. I have a couple videos one showing how I cover and one shows the uncovering. Let me know what you use to protect them maybe I can help.

@@creatingmygarden Unfortunately I did use anything on that pour little thing. I do have two other roses I believe to be more harty. A Campfire and a Hansa rose. They are fairly protected areas covered in a couple feet of snow. Thanks for tips about the miniature roses. Will try next time I receive one again.

This is the 2nd summer for my miniature, and it’s still potted. Some stems are long and others are short, some are green and some are brown, with no leaves. I really need to save this plant. It is the last thing my Mom planted before she passed. My Mom could grow anything. It did ok last summer, but not great. Any advice would be greatly appreciated♥️

Cut it back down and start feeding some calcium from egg shells and some coffee grounds. You could also add some e compost.

Hi I got my miniature Rose as a gift on valentines and a month in, i started seeing these white spots kind of powder dots on the leaves not too much to the point of thinking its mealy bugs or anything like that but I'm afraid it's powdery meldew and I don't know how to fix it, it can even be dirt powder but how do I know I've tried everything and they don't seem to go away unless it's nothing how do I know?
@creatingmygarden
@creatingmygarden 2 месяца назад
If it’s powdery mildew you could use a mixture of milk and a bit of water and wipe the leaves and if that gets rid of it. Make sure you’re watering from the bottom as well. Roses in general don’t like wet leaves.

@@richbishop7896 yes the odd numbers make it look nice and full. I can definitely do more when I grow my own plants the budge goes much further. Plants are getting really expensive one and a while I find a deal. I use to find deals at Home Depot but last year was terrible. Now that lowes is Rona I was asking the staff where all the houseplants went they hardly have any and they told me they got rid of a pile of supplier cause their losing money so hard to say what they will bring in for plants for spring planting. That explains why they didn’t have any proven winners last summer.

Does it matter what time of year you do this?
@creatingmygarden
@creatingmygarden 4 дня назад
No it doesn't if its sick and dying you really don't have a choice. The big thing is keeping it alive till you can plant it outside. They don't make for very good houseplants. Ifyou do keep it as a houseplant it may die back again after blooming then you would to cut it back again. I personally keep them alive till I can plant them in the garden. I do have to protect them in the winter cause I am in zone 3 and they usually are more suited for zones 5 and 6. But I can easily get them through the winter with protection. They are pretty tough once their planted outside.
@trusound170
@trusound170 4 дня назад
@@creatingmygarden I am in zone 6. I tried keeping these in the house in the past but they died quickly. They seem to live longer if I put them outside, but now I am going to try planting them out there. I am determined to have success with this plant. LOL
