Central Florida here. I now have a Coleman camp stove and percolator! Found out what I’m missing. That was a good thing for us from this hurricane. We lost all our prepped stuff in hurricane Ian. Starting over.

Yes, storms like this help us to figure out the gaps in our preps. I thought we had a lot more flashlights than we found at the house and we need a battery powered lantern that will illuminate a large area instead of just a flashlight that we hold in our hands. I worry about losing all the preps. So sorry for your loss through Ian. I'm glad you are able to restock, but it is costly and disheartening, I am sure.

Thanks for your concern. We did well through Hurricane Milton for the most part. The major loss was our high tunnel/greenhouse at the farm. We are working to see what can be done to replace that.

Dollar tree sell a 2 pound bag of rice for $1.25

I have to check that out! I thought they only had 1 pound bags. I hope our local store has these 2 pound bags. You can make a lot of meals with rice and can feed a lot of people for a small cost.

Good ideas. Been preparing for many years now, hope to see others get on board.

Being prepared has been a factor in our life for a long time, also. To us, having extra food available is a win/win situation. If you don't have an emergency or need for the food, you can still use it in your daily lives! Thanks for your comments. I hope we hear from you often.

Hi I'm a new subscriber I usually buy mac and cheese and I will add whatever canned meat I have or leftover meat and I would add either mixed vegetables please or something similar to that that makes a good meal too

That is a wonderful meal idea from your preps. You covered the protein and carbs and dairy and vegetables. What a winner! Thanks for subscribing and for providing this helpful comment.

We do similar, my husband’s favorite is Mac and cheese with hamburger. My favorite is the shells and cheese with canned chicken… great advice 😊

ways to scrape up a few dollars for extra?? we save our cans for the 5 cent deposit returns (not big pop drinkers but during the holidays or summer gatherings-we rack up a few) when i bring them to the return center, i usually have 7 dollars or more worth and then i take whatever my total is and i run over to Aldi (its across the street from the return center) and see how much i can get for that amount-usually 10 to 14 cans of something or if i have morwe i can splurge and by 2 packs of bacon etc...if i see a sale at a local grocery store or have a few good coupons,i calculate the savings and use that extra to buy a couple of cans of something.my sister in law volunteers to help clean out the homes of people recently deceased-they give her ALOT of free things just because they dont want the hassle of going through everything-she walks away with cupboards FULL of unexpired food and non food items like detergent,shampoo,household cleaners,tons of medical supplies etc...she gives away alot of items given to her at these houses and sells some on ebay-all from things the family tells her to keep or get rid of..

Thanks for all those great suggestions. Our recycling center is so far away that we have to calculate the gas cost before turning in a load, but you have made wise use of your opportunity. Every little bit helps and adds up over time! Your sister is doing a great service to the families of the recently deceased. I know that sorting through our parent's houses was quite a task and the option of having someone pass along the extra items is a relief to the families and a blessing to those she shares with.

I hope you were safe during Milton

@hideawayhomestead3477 11 дней назад
Yes, we are safe. We did not have flooding at our properties, except the lower areas of the farm that are just open pasture areas. We did lost our high tunnel, though. We should have a video up tonight or tomorrow about the effects of Milton with pictures of the high tunnel.

Thank you for posting that update. We made the video before the strike happened or was resolved but failed to correct that. We are pleased that this strike did not drag on for a long time to affect the supply chain.
