Tax loss harvesting?

If tax loss harvesting is something available for your stock portfolio - you need to reexamine your investing approach. Why would you have stocks that have losses? If you have stocks with losses you are either 1. doing stock picking which is a bad approach or 2. you have some index fund shares that you bought recently and the market decreased since. If that's the case, you can't recognize the losses and reinvest that money back into an S&P 500 index fund.

@@sharonwinsmithI use direct indexing on the S&P 500. The service is from “Frec”. They charge a 0.10 expense ratio and average just over 2% over what SPY/VOO return. It’s automated but does require almost 500 individual holdings, haha. But you are matching the index :)
