The Rockets won 11 straight games and were 1 game out of the play in. They aren’t some scrub team and haven’t played like one in two weeks. I know what inferior is. To act like Dallas only played the Wizards, Jazz, or Hornets 7 straight games is stupid.

If Luka's not trusting his teammates and making them better, how is it that as soon as Daniel Gafford got with Luka, he came within 3 shots of breaking Wilt Chamberlain's record for most consecutive FGs made? And notice that the streak ended on his first shot against OKC, a game in which Luka was out with an injury. Plus the Mavs have the 6th ranked offense, despite Kyrie missing 22 games, and a ton of other injuries throughout the team, so the Dallas offense really isn't an issue. Since the trade deadline, Dallas is 2nd in Offensive Rating and 8th in Defensive Rating.

@@bucksn6ixHe's more of a playmaker than Carmelo. Both elite iso scorers and below average defenders. In terms of intangibles, it's hard to say. Luka is still only 25. Someone like Tatum is more comparable to Melo...Tatum's won a lot already though, so I'd also give him the edge at this pace. Carmelo is a HOFer, but his best squads were never really competitive. I'm 34, so I watched the entire arc of his career. Great player, but not top 15/20 all time

@@brooksorlando4510 I could agree with most of your take tbh. Melo also was in the gauntlet era in the West. 50 win teams were making 6-7th seeds so I wouldn’t say his teams weren’t competitive, just ran into a lot better competition.

@@bucksn6ix I hear ya. I don't wanna make it seem like Melo was a losing player. Being over .500, in playoffs at all as a #1 option is impressive. I was having a similar discussion with someone about Justin Herbert. He was saying he doesn't win the big game.. and I was like Chargers are on playoff threshold every yr. It's not like he's putting up big stats and team is bottom of the barrel. I'd trust Melo over Harden in the clutch, despite the fact they're around the same tier all time imo. Nuggets and Knicks were never considered in discussion for best team in NBA though. LeBron and Wade during that era did surpass him. He's 100% top 75 guy though. Luka will prob end up ahead of him though because of his passing. He has an added dimension to his game.

@@brooksorlando4510 Harden's clears Melo all time. Higher individual peak and an overall high quality longevity so far/compatibility with diff situations. Tho harden also has a bizarre and unflattering story arch, so I get why people don't have him higher. I also would rather Melo take the last shot. But I just don't think you can make a statistical or historical narrative argument for Melo > Harden all time. Harden broke the NBA and him, Morey, and D'antoni poured gasoline on the analytics movement just as much as the warriors did, if not more. Tho you did say "tier" so maybe that's still true but I think Harden has just been more important to the story of basketball all things considered. Sidenote: Luka also has a way better handle than Carmelo. He's a PG, Melo was very much a SF. Diff era but that opens up the game way more and its the ability to take people off the dribble and drive is one of the main reasons why Lebron and Wade impacted offense way more than Melo did. JJ talks a lot about how basketball is a game of drawing 2 to the ball. Luka is the GOAT of this so far in his career. He just uses his weight + handles instead of Wade/Lebron who used explosive downhill power.

Melo was a really good player, but amongst great players he's mid at best, Luka is well above that. Melo made the All NBA 3rd Team 4×, and All NBA 2nd Team ×2, but he never made one single 1st Team All NBA, Luka's about to make his 5th straight 1st Team All NBA in only 6 seasons. Luka's on a GOAT type trajectory, Melo never sniffed that air.

First thing came to mind when I saw the title.... wasn't Jokic, Luka, Larry Bird, and so many more super star level players or good players that were called not athletic enough prove everyone wrong?. If you have elite skills and high IQ and toughness you don't need to be lightning quick and have a 40+ inch vertical to make it in the NBA. You don't even need to have size or athleticism. Trae Young is an offensive nightmare for defenses. Dude is barely 6'2" 170lbs skinny af, not fast, not quick, never dunks... Athleticism is the last thing they should be looking for

@@william58295 No one is looking for perfection 😂. No GM is expecting perfect players. There's so many players in the league who aren't very athletic and play well. Doesn't necessarily mean they have to be future Hall of famers. Also plenty of athletic players who aren't special. Saying Trae Young is horrible on defense is completely irrelevant because not only is he good offensively, he's ELITE offensively. Same with Dame Lillard, Steph Curry. That's like saying you don't want a Draymond Green or a Bruce Bowen on your team cus they average less than 10ppg. Some players are pretty good on both offense and defense, other are extremely good on just one side of the ball. If a coach can use you in some way to help the team win games he will it doesn't matter if you're lacking in something as long as you're good at something

Bringing up AD to talk about bigs not defending the 3p line is kind of a strawhat. Sure, in the regular season there is no point in over exerting yourself unless it's an important game, but last year the final play of their series against the Warriors was literally AD guarding, and getting a stop, on Curry on the perimeter. He can definitely do it as well as any big in the league.

Jordan was a forward. He wasnt a great tewmmmate. He pretty much was a slightly less ball hog than Kobe. He’s the goat because of offense and defense. But not a great point guard if u don’t pass too.
