I worked as a painter in a body shop. this video was perfect as a what not to do lesson. not prepped right. spray technique, if you can call it that was horrible. light, even coats left to right. certain spots were hit almost 6 times on first coat. prep by scuffing with a red pad all over, prepare surface with a final swipe product on a lint free rag or cloth. it works if done right
That was awesome!!! You should research other vids on this and try it again. Don't be so close to the dash and spray from left to right and cover it all. Light coats first and wait between coats. Do another video :)
Well obviously the plastidip won't stick. It probably wouldn't stick very good on a dry dash, so of course it won't stick good on a dash covered in residue. You got a few options here 1. change dash 2. flock the dash (apply glue and hit it with flock powder) 3. clean it up (and possibly then paint it)
It definitely stuck! The issue was in the tape job, I should have taken a razor knife and cut the tape before peeling it off. Regardless, it also looked pretty bad because of the residue like you mentioned. I need to try #2 or #3 I think before trying again.
My god dude. Old video but you don't put the first coat of plastidip on that thick. Shit was running all over the place. The first coar is a light coat.
Regardless if u do it right it still happens over time especially on certain types of surfaces the material on a dashboard is kinda weird when it comes to dipping
Proper fix for IS300 sticky dash: Remove the dash from the car, strip all the sticky coating, and refinish it with SEM Landau Black. Prep with SEM plastic/leather prep and SEM sand-free adhesion promoter. Yes, removing the dash sucks, but if you want it done right, it’s the only way.
When using plastidip with painters tape you need to paint the coats with very little dry time (5 min max) and on the last coat immediately remove the tape before the plastidip dries on it.
