Isaac Asimov’s science fiction novel on aliens, energy, and workplace politics. Part of the Barlowe’s Guide Summer Reading Challenge Explosion. Exploding optional. #booktube #bookreview #scifiction
Asimov's triumphant return to science fiction after quite a long break! Oddly, this was published in three parts: the first in "Galaxy", the second in "IF", and the third back in "Galaxy"! First time I've ever seen one story serialized in two magazines! Great review and another awesome video!
Haha, thank you. I forgot to bring that up. It does explain why the 2nd part is so detached from the rest. You guys have been putting out some great stuff lately and I am far behind in my viewing due to falling off the face of the earth. However I’m happy to report that I have fallen back. 😁
Thanks! If you haven’t tried him this and Caves of Steel are great no-further-commitment novels. Hopefully one of the kids and I will record a talk about an Asimov book soon 🤞
I've only read a collection of Asimov's short stories so far, and that was only because I thought I'd lost my copy of The Gods Themselves! Then I remembered I gave it to my brother years ago, lol. I'll have to track down another copy so I can finally give it a try, since I'm only interested in Asimov's stand-alone novels and he doesn't seem to have too many of those. Thanks for the review!
This one is good, especially in light of the larger conversation Asimov has about energy and environment. Chris pointed out that it was published as three separate but connected stories so there is a distinct breaking away from one section to the next. Kinda like a mini trilogy. I will say Caves of Steel reads (and works) as a stand alone as well. I’m going to reread the foundation stories at some point. They exist in the happy cloud of sci-fi nostalgia from my youth but I have no idea what the hell happens. 🤷🏻♂️
I’ve only read a little of Butler but that little was stellar. Xenogenesis sounds like a good point to jump back in. Doing a quick check I found that the series is now titled Lilith’s Brood as of around 2000 but the story remains unchanged. I think Xenogenisis sounds a bit better but if more people are reading it under that title then it was probably a good choice. Either way it does look good… Thanks!
