Isaac Dunaevsky's Waltz as performed by the Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra in May 2008 Hobart Earle, Music Director and Principal Conductor. The Orchestra returns to the US in March 2010.
One of the best concert waltzes i heave heard, surely most complex waltz piece by Great Isaac Dunaevsky - would love to hear it at New Year Concert or played by VPO, LSO, or Concertgebouw Orchestra. 4:37 is surely my favourite melody from this piece for sure, i always have shivers at 4:43 - this sequence is just so exquisite and melodious.
What an impressive performance hall Odessa has. Saw it from the outside 6 years ago but never got to go to a concert there. This is a work by a relatively unknown composer outside of Russia and Ukraine. Probably his music can no longer be heard in today's Rightist Ukraine since his politics were far to the Left of today's rulers over Ukraine.
The reason why Dunaevsky and many other soviet music geniuses are enormously underestimated in the West is purely political. Only hatred of Soviet Russia and envy of its achievements. Nothing else!
