I’m American. I know that I’m nearly a decade late after your comment was posted, but that is so true. Everything from the scale used, the sound of the Thai phin(guitar like instrument) and rhythms makes it even more addictive than it really is.

This stuff is SO good! We saw a guy in a white mask and sunglasses, with hands painted white playing Isaan guitar on Khao Sanh Road the other night. Creepy as hell, but hauntingly beautiful. Thanks for sharing this, SteveUK!
Hadi Zainal I grew up listening to this kind of music whenever I get in the car with my parents. It was either Isaan music or Khmer Surin. They were from there so I wasn't surprise to hear it all the time. So I guess its sort of like my heritage anthem lol.
Thank you for answering and suggestions. I grew up in Ubon, but I didn't care for Isaan music then. In 2006 my sister gave me a Pornsak Songsang CD and I like it. Your video was excellent. Thank you for sharing.
