ISC2's Incoherent Response to My Follow Up Question

ISC2 responded to my question about what the source material is for CISSP books, but their response was an incoherent mess. The reason I asked is because I noticed differences between ISC2's training material, and the ""Official" books on the market. My next video will cover in detail everything that's missing from these so-called "official" books. cissprep.net/

Great work! So, confusingly, it appears we have two official CBKs: one available for 180 days as part of an online course from ISC2 called 'Official ISC2 CBK Training Seminar for the CISSP'; and a second available as a book from Arthur Deane called 'Official ISC2 CISSP CBK Reference'. The latter of which appears to be missing some topics covered in the former that may be important for the exam. This is potentially a bigger issue than the omissions in Mike Chapple's and Shon Harris' books. Arthur Deane's book states that it's the authoritative CBK with exhaustive coverage of all eight domains. Is it possible it was exhaustive in Sep 2021 when it was published, and is simply missing new industry topics/trends that have been added to the online training seminar over the last 18 months, or was it always inconsistent and is indicative of a bigger issue? Do we know definitively whether ISC2 periodically updates the content of the training seminar? What is the 'Student Guide' - is it a book like Mike Chapple's Study Guide that training seminar attendees can download, or is it restricted to online view only for the 180 days? It's not mentioned on the training seminar page, enroll.isc2.org/product?catalog=cissp-spt-details The seminar is now $496 with the ISC2 Candidate discount. The seminar and the Student Guide are the exact same thing, just presented differently. The seminar is some actor reading the book out loud as if he were teaching it. It's awful, and I would much more have preferred the updated book. That said, they can both be considered the official CBK because the content is the same. As for Arthur Deane's book, he is missing just as much (percentagewise) from the CBK as the other books. I've finished reviewing his book and will release another video soon to show what's missing. I've actually been done with this analysis for a few weeks now, but there is another twist to this plot that I wasn't expecting and had to research a bit. Stay tuned...

@@CISSPrepI'll give the ISC2 Training Seminar a miss then..thanks. I suspect the authors of these books give it their best guess as to what they think is important to include. They probably only receive from the ISC2 the official changes to the CBK as an outline; the detail is up to them to add. Plus, I've heard the ISC2 prohibits the authors of the exam questions from writing course material or ISC2 books. Looking forward to the plot twist!

Yes, the Official Student Guide by ISC2 is the CBK. Be careful not to confuse it with the "Official Study Guide" by Mike Chapple - which isn't the CBK. The Student Guide is by ISC2 and the only official source. The CBK can also be found in the CISSP training offered by ISC2 (they use content from the Student Guide, so it aligns).
