First life when he healed all those kids. That should have altered his plans. Due to probably a large variety of powers basically a army mixed in with innocent children that can't defend themselves. With expected attempts to silence them. If he played it defensivly and rallied them around him to give them more options the arriving police force would have sorted them out properly seeing the children ralling toghther and arrested any remaining researchers. Him exiting the building alone left him far to exposed. And you can expect his bloody rampage and transformation probably made him look scary which needed clingy cute kids he should have been found with. Them meeting in that way could easily turn into a temporary good forces killing each other but the shear level of children everywhere would of lead to a cease fire and a time for the children to describe what happened. Also a retreat due to being attacked by a scared army of kids to bring in a negotiator.

I read most of the novel and really liked it, the problem was the mc becomes so op that the author unfortunately creates one of the most contrived antagonists I've ever seen to "match" the op
