It is definitely sweet, touching and very meaningful language it cut across barriers but unfortunately we have politicians and bigots who abuse & loathes people of a particular community and language

Is it? They’re not following Behar or Qafiya Radiif. As far as thought is concerned, they’re representing nothing really. Koi “nudrat-e-khayal” nahi. They’re artificially creating Qafiya Radiif. It’s called “Tuk-Bandi” or “Kaari-Gari”. It’s not called “Sha’airy”. And audiences laughing like idiots. Who laughs listening “serious” poetry? It’s more like a “Be-Danggi” comedy show.

Even though I'm new to Urdu poetry and trying to get a deeper sense of it, I know that this new generation of poets and listeners are treating poetry like some vocation. I read the classics and feel absolutely stunned about the new generation missing the entire point of poetry. I was wondering if you could guide me to learning Urdu poetry in a more nuanced manner?

@@theguywithnotime7761 Glad to hear that. I’m a poet who loves classical poetry. No one knows me or have ever heard my name because I’ve never dared to publish any of my works. What you should read depends on your personal outlook of the world. Since you know Urdu poetry is highly political, many small-timers have been kept in higher regard than they deserve and vice-versa. Iqbal is the biggest example in this case. Josh Malihabaadi is the Greatest poet of Urdu after Ghalib but because he was an atheist, they banned him in Pakistan. He got “Padham-Boshan” in India by Nehru but lived a life of misery in Pakistan after migration because he spoke against religion. On the other hand, an average poet that polluted Urdu poetry with useless rhetoric and tasteless mixture of Arabic and Persian phrases but to prove his poetic prowess is propagated as the biggest poet after Ghalib, even though he was never regarded as a great poet in his own time or after his death; Allama Iqbal. Iqbal is not half the poet, Josh sahib is. Iqbal was also scared of competition with Josh. When Josh invited him, he did not dare to recite his Poetry in a meeting with Josh. So the greatest poets are as following: 1. Ghalib 2. Josh Malihabaadi 3. Faiz Ahmed Faiz Many occupy fourth place but I like Noon Meem Rashid. Please also read 72 Nishtars of Mir, since Mir is the pioneer so we do not rate him. If you need to have more names, read any poet that was part of “Progressive Writers’ Movement”. Also read about “Progressive Writers’ Movement itself. When you read poetry, open Rekhta Dictionary for help since you’re new to Urdu and will surely need the help of a good dictionary. Good luck!

@@hgkjkj thank you so much for such an insightful reply. I am really surprised about what you said about Iqbal because I thought people considered him one of the greatest in Urdu poetry. Anyways, I'll read what you have recommended to get a deeper insight. Also, if that's alright, I would love to read your work as well. And I was also wondering if there's a way we can connect? I desperately need a mentor who actually understands poetry. I don't know what I can offer you in return but I have a feeling I could learn a lot from you. Let me know either way. Thanks a lot.
