From a purely academic view, there are elements of Catholic dogma which can be argued to stem from Greek paganism, through first the Etruscans and then the Romans. The latter two cultures used a Latinized version of the Greek gods and their worship practices. This isn't to say that Catholics worship the Greek gods but there are certain elements of their practices that can be argued to stem from such. The first of these is Matthew's. St Jerome went to Aleppo in Syria to make a copy of the Gospel of the Nazarenes (aka 'According to Matthew') in 390 CE. It was the same Nazarenes who wrote 'chants' (qur-an) many of which then found their way into the book Quran. Quran too has 'Word' or 'Word of God' appearing at a few places. The Word is no doubt equated to Jesus.

The actual origin of 1slam (call it Phase 1 of 1slam) was the Nazarene faith. For this you need to read the Quran critically. Quite a number of root words are not Arabic at all. They are Nazarene Aramaic. The Phase 1 of 1slam had Nazarene priests. When 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (a Nazarene) signed the treaty of Jerusalem, he took his oath on the Torah. He rebuilt the Kaaba on the (Jerusalem) Temple Mount and handed it over to the Nazarene clergy. These Nazarene clergy continued at the Temple Mount until at least 12th century CE. But the Abbasids reinvented and created the 1slam Phase 2. In this Phase, the Nazarene clergy were no more present.
