Morocco or Maghrib (al-Mamlakah al-Magribiyah), is
Islamic kingdoms in North Africa; in the east with the borders of Algeria and
southeast by western Sahara, west by the Atlantic Ocean,
and GIlbraltar in the North. The capital is Rabat with an area of approx
458,730 km, population 34,721,000 (2006), The official language is
Arabic although there are also those who speak Berber, French and
Spanish. The majority of the population adheres to Islam (98.7%), Christianity
(1.1%) and the Jewish minority. Morocco is a member of the Arab League and
Organization of African Unity (OAU).
Morocco has been part of the territory of the Islamic World since
conquest of the Amawiyah dynasty, al-Malik bin Abdul al-Malik had
a large role in the process of Islamization and territorial expansion up to
North Africa until finally reaching the Atlantic in Morocco5.
The expansion of Islam into Morocco began when the country was conquered
by Musa bin Nusair during the time of al-Walid I bin Abdul Malik (705-715),
sixth caliph of the Umayyad dynasty. But other notes say that
Islam was first brought to Morocco by Arabs
invaded the region in 683 AD7.
