Islamic life in Tanzania is quite good and harmonious side by side with Christians and other beliefs
Based on data from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), 35 percent of the population on mainland Tanzania is Muslim, 30 percent is Christian, and another 35 percent adheres to animist beliefs.
Islam was, as of 2007, the largest religion in Tanzania with over 50% of the mainland population and over 99% of the population on the island of Zanzibar being Muslim. The majority of Muslims in the country are Sunni with an unusually significant Shia and Ahmadiyya minority in sub-Saharan Africa.
