Trailer - Island In The Sun (1957) James Mason, Joan Fontaine, Dorothy Dandridge, Joan Collins, Michael Rennie, Harry Belafonte, Diana Wynyard, John Williams & Stephen Boyd. Director: Robert Rossen
A wonderful, colorful film released in 1957. Despite negative/mixed reviews, the film became the 7th highest-grossing film of the year. Besides from that, the film has beautiful ladies, including Dorothy Dandridge, Joan Collins, and Patricia Owens. But unlike some films, this films has good performances.
By this time Mr. Zanuck left his wife Virginia of over 30+ years of marriage and moved overseas to help launch the careers of some of his mistresses to no avail and to make some independent movies. He never divorced his wife only to return to her after being apart for over twenty years. By then he was in poor health and died shortly after in Dec of 1979.
Zanuck was a tea-you-are-dee. His wife was a doormat. Pathetic! He had a voice made for the printed page. And with all the money he earned you'd think he would have done something about that dreadful diastoma? It only served to emphasize his essential ugliness. All that aside Island in the Sun was a good film. I wonder why it's never seen on television?
