I so enjoyed watching this so much. 72 years ago I was born to a young serviceman and his young bride. They left when I was 4 months old. I would so love to be on that cruise!
Did this cruise in 2022. Loved it. In case you don’t know, the best viewing is a special area on deck 11 (& maybe 11). Go all the way forward either side. There will be an un marked door. Open it and open the next one. There is a deck area where the view, especially of the bridges, is the best. Even had the ship’s photographer come out once to take our pictures.
We've just got off HAL Koningsdam in Alaska and we're surprised at the vibrancy of BB King's and Rolling Stone Rock Room - in contrast Island Princess seems like the HAL 'old person' cruise that people warned us of lol! We're booked on a 2026 18 Day Ocean to Ocean Panama Cruise on Island Princess from San Pedro LA to New York.
We went on the island princess for the partial canal transit in 2011. I really enjoyed the layout of the ship. The only bad thing was no international cafe.
True! We've missed that... but apparently sister ship Coral Princess had one installed where the casino bar is on Island Princess, so that's intriguing!! :D
0:46 we sailed Island Princess on that same itinerary 5/11/22 and loved it. The AC in our initial balcony cabin didn’t work well so we were moved to Deck 10 forward. It ended up being great as the front of deck ten had an observation area where about 30-40 of us gathered to watch us go through the locks. The naturalist / guide was out there most of the day too. We were close to our cabin for breaks, restroom, ordering room service for lunch so we didn’t miss much. As it got closer to dinner time, we went down to the outdoor promenade and watched from the sides for a different perspective. It’s a great cruise. I look forward to following this one closely. Excited to watch this series. We’ll be doing Panama Canal from Vancouver to Fort Lauderdale in September on Nieuw Amsterdam. I believe it also goes through the old locks. Looking forward to following your journey!
They used to have Universe Lounge at aft at Deck 6&7 on the Island Princess (Coral still does) but they put in cabins on Promenade Deck aft as replacement. And no International Cafe (they added to Coral).
I love you guys And have been watching since the Mexico all I cluaive says. But DEE! I am offended! What has creme brulee ever done to you?!! How can you rectify your dislike of it! Lol it is literally the 2nd best dsssert in all the world. 2nd only to key lime pie! Lol Btw the key lime martini looked Devine! Was it as good as it looked?
It can vary from line to line, but normally you receive an email prompting you to bid, and you bid a total amount that you want on the cabin types that you like. Most cruises, we don't receive any bid emails at all.
Hi Dee and Jay. Can you do a comparison video on the different cruise lines? I’ve never been on Princess but it looks like they have some great features like food delivery. Maybe a top 5 things you love on each cruise line. Love your vids and looking forward to the rest of this series before I book my next trip

Brings back memories! Island was our 2nd cruise to Alaska in 2012 and at the time she felt small, but we had been on Star Princess for our first cruise so we hadn't grown to appreciate the smaller ships yet. Definitely want to go on her again! OH! I didn't know Island had the Love Boat horn!!
We're pretty sure that Love Boat horn was just a sound effect gimmick that they play through the speakers at the sailaway party. It doesn't seem like Island got the actual horn, sadly!! :P
Hi Dee and Jay, does Princess allow you to drop bags in rooms if rooms are not ready yet? Dee booked my 1st Princess cruise for me. Just got off my Celebrity Cruise and it was nice they let you do this. 😊 Thank you
Typically, we’ve found that Princess doesn’t allow bag dropping. We usually keep our stuff with us until cabins are ready. It could vary from ship to ship though, we suppose!! :D
I just got off the harmony of the seas. I did the upgrade thing too. However, mine was not accepted. Could you please talk about what makes a good bid in these cruising times. Wondering the price difference between your cabin cost & your winning bid. Many thanks! Kathleen
It varies from line to line, ship to ship, sailing to sailing. We did $25 per person per day and ours was accepted. But we’ve done probably twice that in the past and it was declined. A lot depends on how sold out your cruise is.

We are! We've got a single 28-day Alaska itinerary coming up onboard HAL that puts us above the Arctic Circle for the summer solstice... it should be a unique experience!! :D

IMHO The Creme' Burlee Cheesecake wasn't as sweet as regular Creme Burlee because of the added "Cheese". If it's prepared properly the cheesecake part is not as sweet so it cuts back on the Burlee sweetness with the less sugar "cheesecake" portion. At least that is how I make cheesecake like that.
