Our camping road trip on the Isle of Mull in February (top tip - this is definitely the off season!). With all the major attractions closed and wildlife boat tours not running yet, we spent our 5 days on Mull just soaking up the scenery, enjoying the quiet, and snuggling up around the campfire.

My parents, now sadly no longer with us, retired to Dervaig on Mull, and so I am well used to the wild winter days on the island. I remember taking my mother to Calgary Bay one February day, after she had become ill, one of the last times she was out of the house. Thank you for bringing back so many vivid memories, and for giving others so much good advice about visiting the island. We rarely manage to get back to Mull, living many hundreds of miles away, but the ties to the island will remain with us for ever.

Great to see the Drone footage over Loch Beg, that us where I saw my first Otter over 20 years ago, I’ve been spotting Otters ever since, thanks for the vids Dave also known as ‘Otter Spotter’

@@danielleryder6771 there are still Otters at Loch Beg, Also consider Going beyond the small pier at Toronsay Castle which is past Craignure, Any quite rocky shore with seaweed should be watched either side of the tide, they are about it’s just patience and binoculars.

I've been watching a fair number of walking and backpacking videos these last weeks as I work my way back into it after too many years, and your Scotland videos are head and shoulders the best I've seen. The filming is superb - the light, detail, texture and sound all so good. I love that you don't do a running commentary during the location filming, but save it as a separate section at the end. I'm not usually a fan of music in videos, but yours is unobtrusive, and works well with the subject without masking the natural sounds. And when you talk about the trips, you are very natural and straightforward, avoiding the youtube clichés and the stream of hyperbola that accompanies many videos. Many thanks, and I look forward to more films of Scotland, nearly as much as I'm looking forward to getting out there myself!

I visited Mull while in a Roadtrip with Friends, 5 years ago. Way to less time, and my shoes lost the soles, the Had to rescue me with ducttape Back on the ferry... I couldnt leave the Car anymore. But what we did have seen was stunnig. I Wish I Had the opportunity to Go Back, With a Lot of time... Mull, Skye, the northern Highlands, Orkneys. Scotland is beyond beauty, its magical. You captured it perfectly. Wonderful Video. Maybe the Wintertime has its own Specials... Maybe less mitches. And less people.

Sorry to hear about your shoes but glad that you enjoyed your time all the same. Every time we travel around Scotland we also wish we have more time - it's never enough. All the places you mention are special, and if you haven't seen it yet, you might enjoy our latest video in Orkney. And you're right, winter has its challenges but it's also a special time of year: great colours in the landscape, far fewer people, and definitely no midges!

This was great. We holidayed 18 years in every season on Mull till we became business owners. Our children still hark back to those days campfires on the beach making dampers drinking tea under a ground sheet sheltering from the wind and rain being lemmings and jumping of the dunes......could go on and on and on .....thank you for bringing back those memories x

Thank you for another super video. I spent six wonderful days on Mull in 2013 in my tiny camper van, so tiny I couldn’t really live in it. I sold it shortly afterwards. I stayed on the grassy shore at Killiechronan the night before I went on a boat trip on Loch na Keal to see Sea Eagles. At Killiechronan, I just arrived and set up; the farmer arrived later on a quad bike and collected £4 for the privilege. I remember it was a jolly cold night. I loved my stay on Mull and hope to go again one day. Found your website fascinating.

That's a good amount of time you had to explore Mull, but there's always more to see isn't there! We had such a windy night at Killiechronan, and no fee in winter season, but it's a lovely spot. You guys are on a new level, stunning footage along with informative info so full credit to both of you, very very inspiring. Was laughing at you saying about the weird B&B as it instantly reminded me of a place in Kyle of Lochalsh I stayed at for one night back in the 90's and one night was enough, from the second the lady opened the door I knew it was a mistake but we were really struggling getting somewhere, we paid our £ and she showed us our room and then I couldn't stop laughing, this old lady had sticky post-it notes with messages EVERYWHERE! The toilet was out in the landing and even that door had a post-it on it reminding people to knock before entry, then when in the toilet she had post-it's all over the place it was hysterical and all I did for about 2 hours before bed was read them all, after I read them all and also after a few beers I started making up my own and my then partner was in fits of laughter, about 23:30 our room door was chapped and I opened it the landlady was stood with curlers in hair and old nighty on holding a candle, she asked us to keep the noise down and she asked me if I had seen the post-it note informing me of NO ALCOHOL! We were the only guests and when we went down in the morning I just wanted to leave but she had made us breakfast, she must of had about 300+ clocks and it was like something out the Twilight Zone, all ticking away then BANG on the hour some of them all ringing & chiming away it was NUTS! She just sat watching us as we ate and the food was terrible, the beans were in a big bowl and had about a 2 inch skin on them, all she said was ..............eat up dear. Weirdest place I've even been in my life lol.

Stuck here in Aus with a trip to the UK in 2020 cancelled earlier this year it was the next best thing to travel.. We have been twice now to Tobermory and it was just wonderful to be sitting in our lounge room being transported back there. You really do get to enjoy so many wild magnificent places. My partner and myself love the Isle of Mull. We’ve been three times now and we like Mull better than Skye. Last time we were there was last August. We rented a small apartment in Tobermory. We swam in Calgary bay and Kayaked from Uisken beach. Can’t wait to go back one day😍

You two should have come out of your tent in your swimsuits, just to capture the look of the folks in the travel trailer on video. A bottle of Macallan wouldn’t hurt. I enjoyed your video very much. The solace of the Isle off season made it special because you didn’t comment through it. Nice job. Forty years ago this Yank traveled the high road and ended up looping through Inverness and Edinburgh back to RAF Woodbridge. Scotland is magic.

I love Easter time because we’ve been very lucky with dry weather and snow on the mountains. And then there’s spring for the wild life, it’s amazing

@@alunlambert7456 Yeah I think Easter is when we'd try to go again, it seems to be a good time with more places and activities on the island opening up and wildlife watching opportunities. And who doesn't love a dusting of snow on the mounain tops!

Thanks for the support, Gary! We haven't made it back to Mull yet unfortunately. We haven't petted any Highland Cows, but maybe it's possible, I'm just quite cautious in case they don't like it (some of those horns look like they could do some damage!).

just wanted to tell you that this video inspired me and a friend to go to scotland a few weeks back to do some of that trekking on long distance trails, it was so cool to see those bothies along the way!

Wonderful : ) We used to live a 10 minute train ride from the start of the West Highland Way, yet somehow still never walked it! Always the way when it’s on your doorstep...Glad to hear you’ll be back again!

@@GoingTheWholeHogg gotta say we had a hard time deciding which trails to take... they all look beautiful! And the WHW was EMPTY! So few people around during this crisis. Saw like one or two other thru-hikers along the way each day.

@@LolaBunnyButt Oh wow, I'm kinda surprised to hear that cause it felt like all I was seeing on Scotland outdoor FB groups and other social media was how crowded the hills were because so many more people were exploring their own backyard instead of travelling elsewhere. It was sounding a bit doom and gloom for a while there through the summer - just goes to show that reality and the impression you get from your social feed can be very different! Glad you got to experience the hike crowd-free, it makes it even more enjoyable. Plenty more still to choose from for the next one ; )
